I bought my iPhone from the T-Mobile retailer, mine was manufactured during the 2nd week of December and I received it and saw that the contrast and the screen had a overall yellow tint. Instantly got annoyed about it, but kept thinking about it and decided to order one from Apple directly. I received it today and it seems like the new one is a lot better, the contrast and the grays and blacks look a lot darker. However, the white is still a bit warm, but is a very minor problem now. I think Apple might be fixing it slowly through the manufacturing process. I would recommend to exchange or return and purchase it again to get a different batch and try your luck

sorry I reposted it to the wrong group(!!!)

The yellow tint also affects iPhone 12pm camera’s performance!!!

I got rid of the yellow tint on my 12mp per setting adjustments you can find online and also on this discussion thread.  After convincing myself that I can deal with a practically grayish whiteish screen color compare with my old 11pm, I took both phones to an outdoor shoot.  While the 11pm was true to the colors of the footages I took, the 12mp exhibited faint, non vibrant colors. The photos had washed off colors compare to what nature looked like.  The 11pm photos on the other hand were all true to the colors (ie what you see is what you get in the photo!).

What was more disturbing is that when I airdropped an image from  the 12pm to the 11mp, the colors of that image (on the 11mp) looked washed off. However when I airdropped and image I took on the 11pm to the 12pm, the image was not as bad as a similar taken on the 12pm but not as good as one the Skender on the 11pm- that is because of the compromised screen adjustments due to the yellow tint issues we are discussing here

There are so many things I like about the 12th - Nevertheless it’s time to return it and go back to the old 11pm until Apple figured out these issue and fix them. I highly doubt that a software fix will ll from it this time around.

Not likely. Unless this is your first rodeo, Apple releases updates when they are convinced they have addressed something appropriately. This is not exactly a critical issue. It's cosmetic and doesn't really interfere with your ability to use your phone. You may not love the tint (it honestly doesn't bother me, tbh), but since it's been reported Apple is working on this, the update will roll out when it rolls out.

I think that with a software update they can solve the issue; but I'm quite scared about the brightness: the specs declared 800 nit (other devices are 625 nit), but when you put an iPhone 7 or iPhone XR (and I suppose all the rest of the iPhones) the 12 is really low..... it is really wrong!! You can see it watching a movie or after taking a picture.... it sounds really too much WRONG!!!!!

I don't know if they can solve also this with the software update!

I was more just saying my phone is fine, and chances are everyone else's is well, at least a big percentage probably is, since there are always failed units in every batch. I just wanted to give people something to calm down over. If they do the test I suggested and the display responds then they have nothing to worry about other than waiting for Apple's software fix.

Personally, I didn't think it was a problem, I just had never used OLED displays, so wasn't sure what to expect in behavior. I have as mentioned though had experience with calibration and video, so having a warmer tone is normal. Cool white doesn't look normal to me in displays, and it shouldn't for anyone experienced with display calibration and standards.

OK guys,

I didn't come on here to minimize people having genuine concerns over the problem. I simply noticed my 12 pro Max which I just got a couple days had slightly warmer tint, but it's not overly yellow, unless True Tone is on and I'm in a darker part of the apartment. So I wasn't going to consider it an issue for me. I just wanted to check on it since this is my first OLED display.

With that said, I simply wanted to take what people were saying and test for myself if it was a display problem or software. After doing the above tests, on my device anyway, it seems to be software as the display is fully able to go bright and change the tint. Everyone's situation is different, so are everyone's expectations. I felt that what I did would help people relax if their phones reacted the same way. Especially if it's a software issue over hardware. I would much rather help people solve their problems then listen to them complain and that's why I got on here to see what I could do to help :)

Have a good evening

And thank you for that. These forums can become a bit heated with opinion and counter opinion.

Bottom line for me is I wish I hadn’t sold my iPhone X. It’s only issue was the battery was at 80%. And because I get tax back through business, it was cheaper to replace the phone and sell the old one than buy a new battery. So it made sense, but now I have a phone that is inferior in day to day use.

and even if software, I’m not getting a warm feeling Apple intend to fix it.

I'm in a similar situation as you now, as well. I had an iPhone 7 Plus that I had had for 3 years, still in perfect condition.

I traded it in for the 12 pro Max, which was a REALLY good deal because it took quite a bit off the price giving me slightly lower monthly payments on the new one. With that said, I always remember my 7 Plus looking slightly warmer than my other devices as well, but since it was my trade in, I can't compare it now.

What I can say, is with my own testing, and my experiences with the phone thus far: my particular phone isn't a problem for me after I checked out some of the tech details. I've tried Video, and colors are good there and nothing is distorted (this would be my biggest complaint ) if video was distorted. As far as True Tone, it works, it just seems to potentially read my lighting wrong unless it's in daylight lighting. Turning it off helps keep a display that's warmer, but not overly yellow. So it's usable. As long as the phone continues to function as phone. I'm good with that. Will just wait to see if Apple offers a fix down the line, or recall, if it gets to that point.

By the way, the 12 pro max is my ONLY phone now since the upgrade. As long as I can use it. I'll hold onto it.

One other thing I wanted to add: I usually upgrade for a new battery and features every couple years. After the 7 plus though, I held onto it because I wasn't sure if I wanted to lose Touch ID. Now that I've tried the new design, it's not as bad as I thought it could be.

12 pro max here with the yellowish tint, I can’t get rid of it. So I tried to burn the screen with a YouTube movie “Bright White burn fix” it lasted for 9 hours at the highest brightness, True Tone off, night shift off and dark mode off, but nothing happened. The screen is still shiti. It lacks contrast, sharpness and the yellow tin is still there.

I have the XS Max to compere with and the white on the XS Max is WHITE.

Yes, I think that is part of it. But I think multiple quality issues. Of 4 I’ve had, three weren’t just yellow, they were dull and lifeless too.

And now I have an issue with wireless charging locking off. Have to restart the phone.

shocking quality control. For the most expensive phone in the world, I expect better.

they should have fessed up and said “pandemic Year we will defer release to April” or whatever. But cash counts.

Something weird is happening with this issue. No (announced) software update, but all of a sudden it’s looking white, even with true-tone. (I’m referencing against an old iPad.

then I opened the cover on my folio and oh no, all yellow again; then before my very eyes it went white and brightened up in front of me.

it’s like they’ve just snuck out an unannounced update.

ive had five Of these to compare. 3 were shocking, dull and yellow, True Tone or not. Two ok with TT off, but bad with it on, but now, seems to be solved.

fingers crossed.

I don't feel the panel on my phone is faulty at all. Has nothing to do with being a fan either. I LIKE the screen on my phone. It is not as stark white as my previous phone, but it is fine as far as I'm concerned.

Since you're not happy however, you should let Apple know how you feel. Whether I like or you don't like the panel on our phones isn't getting any notice from Apple here on this user to user only forum.

For some people this tolerance for yellow is a matter of personal preference, and for others (like me) it’s truly a matter of functionality. I have low vision and the iPhone is actually the cheapest device out there with sufficient-quality cameras, magnification capability, and display quality to meet my needs. So when the colors are displayed in a distorted way on this new model (both my original purchase and its replacement have displayed white as sticky-note yellow), it’s more than a matter of taste for me.

I’m not bringing that up to argue with anyone else’s experience or opinion. I’m mentioning it only as a point of context for why display changes, by design or by accident, can be so significant.
