iPhone 12 Pro Max camera issues

Has anyone got issues with your iPhone 12 Pro Max camera ? See below that I have on mine:

1) when making video on main 1x sensor and only at 4k 60fps, the screen is suffering from significant flickering. This is not happening on any other resolutions and frame rates. I have compared to my old Xs and Xr with same settings, same scenarios and this issue is not present at all. I have also tried changing shutter speed manually to 1/120 on Filmic Pro, as normally this would resolve the issue, however no matter how I set settings manually flickering is present at all settings, when recording 4k 60fps. I have tried resetting the phone, force restarting, with no luck. I am on 14.2. I even tried using every possible settings scenario on both display and camera settings and still not possible to eliminate the issue :(

2) Ultra wide lens 0.5x is suffering from lags, stuttering when on 4k 60fps. When you touch screen to get auto exposure square and focus point, lag and stuttering is heavily present. The moment exposure and focus point disappears all is back to normal. Again this is only happening when on 4k 60fps and in all lightning conditions. I have tried all above and absolutely all settings but no luck with getting this resolved.

it would be good to see if anyone has come across these issues and managed to fix anyhow. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Happy to share my OneDrive link, so you can see the videos with these issues.

I have been doing intensive research and testing and come to an conclusion that it is the camera app and code/algorithm behind that is causing this issue. So in other words hoping this is software related.

I have downloaded myself paid app called ProCamera and was playing around with manual settings. When I set shutter speed to 1/100 the flickering has disappeared completely. To the point that my issue number 2) was also not present in ProCamera app for me.

it would be interesting to get other user’s thoughts and opinions about this.

I am having the same exact issues on my iPhone 12 Pro Max while recording in 4K 60 FPS. There is constant flickering, mainly in videos that include the sky on a well lit day, and the exposure is all over the place. Additionally, the ultra wide lens suffers from significant lagging and stuttering. I have to constantly restart the camera to get it to work properly. I really hope this is a software issue that Apple can fix immediately.

Call apple let them know about your complaint about the 1x close focusing issue. If they get enough complaining hopefully they will do something to fix it. Which they should do it’s inexcusable for a flagship phone.

I’ve had this same issue a couple times for a an hour or so, closing all apps and restarting after each time, the first time it worked, the second time it kept doing it after the restart for an extra hour until it eventually stopped.

I have the same problem !!! I compared Whit my iPhone 11 Pro Max ... and I can get focuss normally with near objets with 1x lents. I call Apple right now. You must do it too.

Hi Kris,

Same (Nr. 1) issue here. But it’s interesting that I have this problem only in two rooms in the house while the lights are on. If I shoot video (4K 60 fps) in the dining room, the video flickers. If I do this in the bedroom, it doesn’t. Outdoor I have not experienced this kind of problem.

Is it possible that it has to do with the electrical network? Because the video otherwise looks good. In 30 fps there’s no problem at all.

Same here, lots of flickering issues when recording video on this Iphone 12 Pro.

I see to notice mine is affected by having the lights on or off. When electric lights are turned on, flickering in video goes crazy. Lights off and its OK.

This makes me think there it may be a PAL/NTSC issue? I cannot see an option anywhere to switch this.

I am posting this while on support-chat for this issue, haven't gotten anywhere yet.

Yes- same on mine- created a ticket with techs- sent samples- waiting for response

- something to add- try taking a screenshot on

portion of video- it’s exceedingly dark while the video itself is exceedingly light and bright!

airdropped same videos to Pro Max 11- took

screenshot from video on 11/ it’s normal!

issue is in pro Max 12 video in most light conditions and in all shooting conditions

This is a MAJOR issue. Wide angle lens, 4K, 60fps is nearly unusable. I want my 11Pro Max back. Lagging, frame dropping, stuttering ... unusable. I’d take my phone back but I’m out of the 14-day period.

Not only that, terrible exposure shift (light changes) in videos with exposure LOCKED. Should not happen.

Will make YT video featuring these problems.

I am seeing a lot of people on here complaining about flickering only when lights are on while recording. Do people not know that lights in your house are rapidly turning on and off? Your camera is most likely picking up the lights turning on and off due to it being run off alternating current.

Same exact problem with my iPhone 12 pro max, except the color of the dots in mine are pink dotted lines. It only happens in low light conditions or dark conditions. It’s terrible. I expect this from a $50 phone; not a $1k phone.

I wish it could just be fixed by Apple updating camera software or something. I would hate to travel to an Apple store and then wait two weeks for a replacement.

So it’s a long story, I contacted apple service in my country- they took my iPhone and called me , saying my iPhone is ok and this is supposed to be like that , so I told them that this is unacceptable and I made a video to confirm

sent it to them - and nothing

my iPhone is sitting in there lab for more than 10 days ,

and I’m supposed to wait

I had to fight with them for more than 25 days

my iPhone was at third lab and they argued with me that this is how it’s supposed to be ( nonsense)

aftet 25 days they agreed to replace my iPhone .

so I lost 1 month of warranty.

I have updated my iPhone 12 Pro Max to the latest iOS version i.e. 14.4 but still I am getting the flickering issue even in 1080p at 60FPS with the smart HDR on .

The flickering in my case is mainly in the sky when I shot the video in natural light.

This makes the video completely unusable.
