Cannot connect to AppleTV after Big Sur update

I just update to Big Sur and Airplay to Apple TV is no longer working. Get message that I cannot connect to AppleTV. I have tried all of the troubleshooting advice including same WiFi network, Firewall settings, rebooting routers, modem, appleTV. Any suggestions.

I have norton 360 which is interfering with airplay working. To fix, select the "norton" circle-check-mark icon on the top menu bar to get the pulldown, then pick "Live Update." When the live update screen appears, click on "settings" at the top. When settings appear pick "firewall", when firewall screen appears, TURN OFF "vulnerability protection". Then airplay works under Big Sur :-)

Had the issue with Norton 360, swapped to AVG and problem solved. Seemed to be a particular setting within 360 that didn’t like it. Spoke at length with Norton and was surprised to hear that they hadn’t heard more about the problem, but couldn’t solve it. Apple didn’t seem that bothered, as long as all equipment was up to date/turned on/signed in correctly then it should work. To me it points to a particular setting with antivirus software either allows or doesn’t depending on who you have. For me AVG works

I experience the same problem connecting to my Apple TV using the screen mirroring control.

I was able to trace my problem to "Norton 360" somehow interfering with Airplay. If I disable the Norton "firewall", I am able to connect with my older model Apple TV and share my screen.

Is there an App or port on my Mac that I need to allow Airplay connections for? I believe Norton 360 Firewall allows Apple apps to do what they want.

Does Apple communicate with developers such as Norton to report this type of conflict so this gets fixed?

Fine, I tried it last night and it worked but what about the icon at the top of the Mac screen? That is missing. How can I get that back without going through what you said in your response? Apple can't keep having their customers find all the obvious errors that the QA people should find - these are low hanging error fruit.

I am almost ready to go to PC after this mess.

Thank you for your suggestion, hope it works for others too!

Same issue and fixed it. I had same issue. Upgraded to Big Sur and then was suddenly unable to screen mirror to any of the 3 Apple TVs. I would get a message "unable to connect". As someone suggested, I needed to "authorize the computer" by signing into iTunes or Apple TV app. Once I signed in using Apple ID and Password, on the computer, I was now able to screen mirror to all Apple TVs.

Had same issue after reading a lot i found out that once u sign in and authorize ur device from itunes then it will ask u to turn off ur firewall, whenever u turn that firewall off then go to the itunes upper right corner and use that airpmay icon to select ur samsung tv, then it will ask u for a password which u will enter on ur samsung tv:

settings> General> apple airplay settings> then turn airplay on> require code (use password instead) and exit out,

of u could t still connect it u have to go to ur laptos upper right corner contol icon, seect display preferences > on the bottom it says airplay display and choose the samsung tv from it drop down menu.

this worked for me and i hope it helps everyone else as well.
