Mac mail flags not working - Big Sur
Since the Big Sur upgrade I can't flag emails. I use this facility a lot, so this is a real problem. Has anyone found a workaround?

Missing Flags in Column View
To see your email flags while using Column Layout:
MotoBella, I assume your non-column layout looks like this, with the flag way over on the right:
But if you enable the side preview within non-column layout, the flags are more visible:
How you want your inbox to display is a matter of taste, but this might be a good compromise. (Side preview is available in the View menu.)
Right click on the word From above your email list.
I right clicked by pushing the 'control' key & the trackpad at the same time.
Hope that helps
Hi, BecomingMe:
Place your curser over "Subject", then RightClick. Let me know if it works - or doesn't.
Best,
RB
I also right-klicked on something above the email titles and fiddled a little along and the colours disappeared and the flags came back. I think you can either have coloured lines over the emai message or the flags, not both.
If I understand your question correctly, then try holding down on the flag icon in the title bar (it's a white flag), and then moving it to the position that suits you.
This looks quite different on my Mac, but is not really the issue.
The set of smart mailboxes in the left column showing flagged email grouped by flag tyep does not work. In each flag grou uí see the number of flagged messages, but when i ckick the mail box it shows nothing, and soúddent´ky the number in the mailbox is shown as 0. If i close the list and reopen it the numbers are aguian ciórrect but the messages are not shown.
I have syncronized the emails and rebuilt the mailboxes, closed and reopened Mail, but to no help.
If i am in the inbox and click the falkged emails favourite nothing happens except the number of emails with that type of flag goes to 0. And frequently that whole mailbox disappears from the menu, however it at some later time suddenly reappears.
I also find many times the search functions completely fails, nothing happens although the searched for iten definitely is present.

Hi, Beemer850:
Have you been able to display the FLAG column? If not, position your cursor on the FROM column heading and Right-Click (for Trackpad, control+click). This will display a menu from which you can choose various options, FLAGS among them.
As far as sorting goes, simply Click on the column heading you want your major sort sequence to be.
Good luck.

Great - that's done the trick, thank you.
Here's a screenshot of the top of the Mail window. You right-click (control-click) on the word "Subjects," then a menu pops up and you can choose what features you want to show up in your display.
That's what this whole thread is about! Go back to justinec16's solution, and remember that if you haven't set up a right-click on your Apple mouse, you can just control-click.
Justinec16, That was helpful, thank you. To clarify further, Right click about the FROM list of emails and the box pictured will pop up so you can choose flags and Attachments, among other things
I hope things get better for you. You should be able to go back to Catalina until some more updates on Big Sur come out. For me, mail is working just fine. I wish you the best.
Sorry...it must be me...but I cannot figure out what section you are right clicking on.....above the email titles...is this in the menu bar....and below inbox....there is no section there to click on....could you please provide more information?
thanks
David
That's right - and you can actually do this anywhere on the track pad, not just on right side - another alternative for right-clicking on mac keyboard is 'control+click'
You can also change some of these in system preferences/track pad
It hasn't been removed. It is WORSE than that. It's been made to be impossible to find. It took me hours on my own, and this thread to figure it out. I just now tried to re-create it for you so I could re-explain it, and I couldn't. They really screwed up by altering this. If it ain't broken, don't fix it. Geez......
