Big Sur bluetooth problems

Since updating to Big Sur I'm having trouble with my bluetooth devices. They (mostly) connect OK, but I cannot play sound to my bluetooth speakers or headphones. The issue occurs on both of the Macs that I have updated so far.

Any advice?

Thank you very much, this solved the problem on both my iMac and my MacBook Pro.

Here is what I did:

  1. Open a folder window and in the "Go" menu from the toolbar at the top of the screen click on "Go to Folder..."
  2. When prompted enter the following: /Library/Audio/Plug-ins/HAL/
  3. You will be taken to the "HAL" folder in Finder, which in my case contained only one subfolder, called "InstantOn.driver". Delete this folder, entering your password as confirmation when prompted.
  4. Restart your Mac and hopefully everything will now work fine.

Poor show, Apple!

Bluetooth connection is not only dropping incessantly with non apple devices (Sony speaker) but also with apple earpods! Re starting the Bluetooth in the computer nor pairing devices again made any changes. That’s a mess!

I think we’ve got to wait for an update, if someone could fix the problem in the meantime, please share.

I never usually go on forums, or post things on the internet. But I haven't been this ****** off in a while, I literally cannot connect any sort of bluetooth device since I installed **** sur, and I work with my computer as I imagine many of you do, it seems like the only response from apple support is revert to Catalina, umm no thanks. How about you get your sh*t together Apple? I did some digging and it seems like this bluetooth issue was in the beta of Big Sur. That is unavailable, Isn't the beta supposed to prevent these type of issues? It's already been a week working without my headphones and I use them on a daily basis for my call center job.

thank you for costing so much money and having the crappiest tech support out there, as soon as I am able I will be selling my Mac and getting a Thinkpad built to last and no BS with updates.

This whole experience has made me realize how overpriced and crappy Apple really is, almost as crappy as my punctuation.

So I think I speak for a lot of people when I say Apple get your sh*t together or cut those prices to reflect the actual quality of your services & products.

Im having the same exact problem with the bluetooth connection. Im also having an issue since updating my 2020 MacBook Air to Big Sur my computer crashes about ever 5 min if left inactive. I have deleted all third party plugins and it still happens. VERY FRUSTRATING since I had a 2014 MacBook Pro that never had any issues! Come on Apple we spend 900.00 on these machines and you can't even get the software right!

I agree. I am very angry about all this. This should have been tested. I am on zoom all day with instructors at a university, and now my Air Pods do not connect for full use. I got them to connect briefly today, but there was no sound. I have two new MacBook pros, and the bluetooth stopped working the minute I upgraded them. I am frustrated to the point of tears. I have used Mac since 1983, and the service and products are not what they used to be. I cannot believe this did not come up in beta testing.

ANYONE AT APPLE LISTENING?! MacOS Sur sure has Bluetooth issues. I have a 2017 Mackbook Pro with only Chrome and Edge added. No other apps. AirPod Pro does not maintain a constant audio stream. This my nth post about the issue and no response. I will get a reporter next, walk into an Apple store and drop the MacBook Pro after a demo of the issue. Be ready for a media blitz.
