I get a message "The File can't be found" when I plug in my iPhone via USB

When I connect my iPhone to my MacBook Pro via USB I get the message "The file can't be found" and I have to click "Ok" before the phone mounts in finder. This has only occurred since updating to Big Sur 11.0.1 and it doesn't seem to cause any other problems but is mildly inconvenient.

Anyone else experience this?

When I plug my iphone into a late-2014 iMac, updated to 11.0.1, I get endless windows popping up saying "The file can't be found." The computer is unable to mount the iPhone (iPhone X, software up to date). The windows continue until I unplug the phone. This is a pain since I usually upload photos from phone to computer and now can't. I'm skeptical of the claim at the top of this page about "the most advanced desktop operating system in the world..."

Unfortunately this isn't a good fix for me. When I plug in my phone it opens MULTIPLE "Can't find" images. I counted 42 and finally stopped counting! They cannot be closed by clicking on OK, they stay on top of everything and I have to shut off my computer using the power button in order to get rid of them.

I am not certain what you mean by the circle with the dots to the left of the trash can as there is nothing like it there or anywhere, unless you are referring to Launchpad.

I am also having problems with Messages. I cannot seem to send to Android phones. I get "Not Delivered" notices on them.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, NDDonna

I am on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) and just updated to Big Sur 11.0.1.

I just got a Macbook Air 2020 running Big Sur. They did an update last night from 11.0 to 11.1. I am running an iPhone 5s 12.4.9.

I have never had an issue syncing my 5s with my MacBook Pro High Sierra which the MacBook Air replaces.

Today I plugged my phone in and I too have this annoying pop up but some of the guidance here does not jibe.

For instance Open Image Capture using the three dots beside the trash. What three dots? There aren't any so I went into Launch Pad opened it.

When I plugged in my phone I got The file cannot be found window which I cleared.

The phone showed up as locked so I clicked on it and up came my pictures on my phone.

I disconnected the phone, repeated the process and it came up the same.

The point is I don't want this to happen. If I plug into my MacBook Air then all I want it to do maybe to sync music or just simply charge while I work.

This falls under another of the geek mantras. We do stuff because we can, not because it adds value and to annoy the users we will make it a case they must figure out how to opt out.

I have the same issue specially after I installed the BigSur. Using ImageCapture is not the optimum way to backup your iphone to your computer. You can still do so by using PHOTOS on your computer. laugh Photos and connect your iPhone to the MAC, ignore the message "File cannot be found". once you open your iPhone and Trust the connection to the MAC, the iPhone will pop up under Devices in Photos. Click on the iPhone under Devices and on the top Select "Open Photos for this device". then you are ready to import the photos on your iPhone.

However, I still cant find a way to backup the iPhone as we use to!!??

Hello, I understand the process but there is one big problem for me. "Open up the Image Capture application.

In the … (circle w/ dots) to left of trash can icon. Click on the dots, and, in the drop-down for ‘Connecting this iPhone opens:’  select  ‘Other’."

I do not have a Circle w/dots anywhere. I cannot click on the dots because they are not there. I have tried all options and nothing gives me a drop-down.

Plugging in my iPhoneXS still results in multiple "Can't find file" images. My phone tells me it has not been backed up in weeks even though I have tried!

Suggestions?

Thank You, Donna

Hi, I have an IPhone 8+ went to Image Capture then went to >> top right next to magnifying glass and chose "Action" then went to Open and the 3 dots in the circle was there and changed the it to "Other". Once you change it, it asked to unlock phone and download photos. I was confused to and today was the day I was going to figure it since it's been 3 months since I synced my phone. Good luck!
