iPhone 12 Pro Max Display issue

Hi so I just purchased an iPhone 12 Pro max, in India.

In a day of my purchase I realised that the display is warmer than usual even with True Tone and night shift off.

So I went to the apple store to compare it again, and I was right. Turns out my display is warmer than the phones on display.

Having realised that I asked the guy at store about it and he refused to replace it and asked me to contact a authorised apple service provider.

On doing that the service provider simply says apple makes 2 types of displays

  1. cooler or the one with a blue tint
  2. warmer or the one with a yellow tint

Saying that he refused to take up my phone for verifying my claim and simply said its not an issue and nothing can be done.

this is really sad and frustrating, since even after paying so much for a phone that's the kind of reply I get.

Attached the picture for comparison, all the settings are the same of the two phones, no screen guards or temper glasses on both the phones, full brightness and night shift and True Tone is off.

I Cleary believe something is wrong with my phone, but am surprised that it is clearly ignored

I've never heard of Apple making two versions of the iPhone display...

True Tone and Night Shift are the most obvious settings to look at. It is good that you checked and reset them.

After making changes to those settings, Restart the iPhone to ensure that the settings have taken effect.

I would recommend checking these other display settings too, just to make sure nothing here is creating a warm effect.

Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Reduce White Point ... reduce and see changes

Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Color Filters > Turn the slider OFF (not green) ... see if any difference!

Restart the iPhone to ensure that the settings have taken effect.

See the Apple India website for an Apple Authorized Service Provider who you can take your phone to, if you still need help!

Good Luck!

The dealer who said there are two types of displays was either misinformed, or he did not express himself clearly. There are two vendors who manufacture the displays for Apple - LG and Samsung. But I have not read anything online that one makes a blueish tint display while the other makes a warmer tint display.

Call the Apple India Support helpline, the number is on the Apple India website. I have found them to be helpful and courteous.

Hope your issue gets resolved.

If you are in USA, Canada, Europe or any other place where apple has direct stores, please go to them before the 14/15 day period and they will replace it for you.

Here an India we don't have any such support and have been left on our own, since the system here does not involve directly, we can't get it replaced like that. We here have to go to the authorised service providers, which again since is not direct apple does not acknowledge such issues.

Apple service here is really pathetic !!

If you are convinced your phone has an issue, take it back to where you bought it. We are all just users on this user to user only forum. I do see the new screens as being warmer. I am also not upset about that and I now personally find it actually preferable. If you don't, take it back.

Also, I believe the screen brightness on both phones you show is not the same. The 12 Pro Max in your hand is not set as high as the display phone.

That’s the issue I did take it back there and they did not do anything about it.

that is y I am talking about it here.

Apple in india is not that customer friendly because it does not have a direct presence here, it’s via distributors.

In USA or Europe you can get it replaced in a week or Money back if you don’t like it. Genius Bar is pretty good with their approach.

Here all you can do is go to them, and they come up with answers like.

“Apple makes 2 types of displays warm and cool”

they don’t even take my phone to run a few tests on them. Just sent me back saying it’s ok there is no problem.

I also have a video to prove that both the phones are on full brightness and are on the same settings.

warmer scene is not an issue but the one I have is too warm to the extent that it feels it’s on True Tone always.
