iPhone 12 Pro: Facetime / speakerphone microphone audio cuts in and out

My wife recently upgraded from the iPhone X to 12 Pro. For Facetime calls, she frequently positions the phone propped up on her desk (bottom part on desk) so it's hands-free. This seems to cause the audio to cut in and out for the people on the other end of the call. My guess is the noise cancellation to prevent feedback from the speakers is causing it. However, it's not an issue on any of the older model iPhone we've had. We've tried it with both case on and off and tried turning off noise cancellation in the settings, but didn't work.

Is anyone having the same issue? I'm wondering if this might be a software fix in the future or if it's hardware related.

You do realise the main microphone is at the bottom of the phone?

By standing it on something in portrait mode it is very likely you are simply blocking the microphone!

Facing the screen, the holes on the bottom of the phone, to the left of the charger socket, are the microphone.

When you are propping up the phone in portrait mode, make sure those holes are not covered. You can buy specialist phone stands that avoid this problem.

This can also be a problem with the way you hold the phone. I have a tendency to block them with my right little finger which I use as a "stand" to stop the phone slipping through my grip.

They won’t recall the phone I had the same problem with my iPhone 11 pro and Apple denied there was a issue and said I was the first they ever heard of this and after months of calling and going back and fourth with them they finally sent me a new phone to only have the same issue so much for a isolated problem and so I bought the iPhone 12 Pro thinking that would solve my problem well wrong again so now after years of being with Apple from the very first iPhone to the 12 I finally bought my my first android a galaxy S21 and I have to admit it is a better phone and no issues and I’ve always been a Apple guy and still have my iPhone 12 and hoping Apple does the right thing but some how I don’t think so

There is only one solution here. Talk to newspapers, websites, etc etc

if this story doesn’t get out nobody will ever get anything fixed here.

Apple sold millions iPhones and here we are. The majority doesn’t even know that the problem exists or why or that affects so many iPhones. Lots of people do not even know how/where to complain about .

the problem exists and apple has to respect customers and fix it

my audio cuts out on any mode the phone is on. I went through millions of troubleshooting things with Verizon, got a replacement phone and then was told by Verizon that Apple is aware of this issue and was trying to solve it through updates… guess what, I downloaded the most recent update and my phone still doesn’t work. I had an IPhone X before this and the only reason I updated was because my phone would overheat when on FaceTime. I conduct my work through my phone and this has really affected it. Where is my solution Apple??? You are aware of an issue, selling me a phone over $1000 for it to not properly FUNCTION as a phone.

Experiencing the same issue. Facetime is the only solution for me and my husband who is in the hospital. The phone would suddenly go mute/silent. I could not hear any background noise from the phone. I am only reading his lips on the phone to tell the nurses what he needs. He is on a vent so there is no voice coming from him unless he does his mouth clicking sounds. Which I do not hear anymore. So this renders the phone useless. Our old iphone does not do this. I have my old Iphone 6Plus going 24-7 facetime and it does not go mute unless i click the mute icon itself. Ambient noice from the hospital room even when I am not looking at him helps me know if he needs help.

Please fix the issue of the phone going mute. I only have the iphone 12 Pro 5 days and I just notice this issue yesterday. And it already happened twice in one day. For emergency this phone is rendered useless if you as a user cannot hear any background noise on the other end. Whatever situation it maybe this should not happen for such an advance phone.

Please help resolve the issue.

Thank you developers. My husband and I believe in you!

Well I have had 5 different iPhones throughout the years and this is the first phone that has had this problem. My current $1200.00+ iPhone 12 Pro with 256 gig memory has the dreaded issue of audio cutting out on the other end of the conversations when using speakerphone. I have tried all of the fixes to no avail. I wish I had my iPhone SE back. If Apple had any integrity they would fix this issue by re-designing the hardware and replace everybody’s phones. I just looked today and their market cap is 2.43 trillion dollars. I guess you get there by cutting a fat hog in the ***. Guess who the hogs are. Us consumers!

Yes, I have many problems with my iPhone 12 Pro microphone. On speakerphone I can’t be heard. On FaceTime I literally have to yell for my wife to even hear a murmur. I have done all of the things being suggested online, but to no avail.

I’ve bought every model iPhone since the first in 2007 but never had a mic issue until the iPhone 12.

Apple, please create and release a patch to fix this. And if software manipulation doesn’t work, recall the phone and correct the hardware. I’ve always loved iPhones, but at this point, Samsung’s starting to look pretty good.
