iPhone 12 Pro: Facetime / speakerphone microphone audio cuts in and out

My wife recently upgraded from the iPhone X to 12 Pro. For Facetime calls, she frequently positions the phone propped up on her desk (bottom part on desk) so it's hands-free. This seems to cause the audio to cut in and out for the people on the other end of the call. My guess is the noise cancellation to prevent feedback from the speakers is causing it. However, it's not an issue on any of the older model iPhone we've had. We've tried it with both case on and off and tried turning off noise cancellation in the settings, but didn't work.

Is anyone having the same issue? I'm wondering if this might be a software fix in the future or if it's hardware related.

You do realise the main microphone is at the bottom of the phone?

By standing it on something in portrait mode it is very likely you are simply blocking the microphone!

Facing the screen, the holes on the bottom of the phone, to the left of the charger socket, are the microphone.

When you are propping up the phone in portrait mode, make sure those holes are not covered. You can buy specialist phone stands that avoid this problem.

This can also be a problem with the way you hold the phone. I have a tendency to block them with my right little finger which I use as a "stand" to stop the phone slipping through my grip.

I didnt need the box actuallie. Once you decide for replacement, process is, they’ll put ur credit card on hold for full amount, they’ll send a new phone in brown box and white sleek box which has new iPhone in it. Same packaging you’ll use to send ur old iPhone back. You have to tear the label from brown box from side, it will have another label already affixed to send it back to them on top of brown box.

I also have the same issue on my iphone 12 pro. When talking to my best friend on facetime she says the audio will cut out. The video will still be going but she can only hear like every other word. I'm just wondering if this is such an issue with the iphone 12 and apple has probably gotten so many complaints about it, how come none of the 3 support agents I've spoken with seem to know about this issue? I'm also curious to know whether or not a lawsuit is going to come out of this? I feel like it's unacceptable that apple can take consumer's money with a known issue that seems to be happening so frequently with this phone.

The fact that Apple has not addressed the issue is not acceptable under any circumstance. I cannot believe they continue to say that they are not aware of any problem. I guess we need to facetime a support tech, maybe then they will admit to an issue! Until then, we ALL continue to have a problem? So disappointed in Apple that they haven't or won't step up and fix this!!

I can’t return the device because it has been with me for more than 4 months now but I wish I did when I started to notice the issue after the first 10 days. I had many iPhones and so far this is my biggest disappointment making me think twice when/if in the future I will have to change device. If this won’t be resolved properly I don’t think I will choose Apple again tbh. I can’t waste money this way.

I face the same issue with my iPhone 12. And after the options I could try on my end, I called tech support they asked to go to the Tech bar. Tech bar guys just asked me to restore settings. When I explained the problem and heard is there is no hardware or software issue with my phone so can be environmental and they havent heard anything from Apple tech on such issue. I just went today and after my visit bumped into this post. So many people are complaining on this and APPLE DOESNT KNOW THIS YET!!!!

I cannot accept its environment because I tried regular calls or WiFi and in both while on speaker the calls are choppy but over ears or Bluetooth headset it’s fine. Also my old devices Apple or Samsung or even iPad just works fine not choppy so don’t blame it on environment.

At work I have severaL meetings and it’s very annoying after spending this much turning to old devices or looking for a headset. Video calls or FaceTime is again a worst experience.

APPLE CAN YOU HEAR US- it doesn’t stop by just selling a product you need to review forums.

I am fed up with my iPhone 12 pro max. in that the sound keeps cutting out with telephone calls ands Facetime also.

got in touch with support and they made me re-set my phone but it is still doing it. I am annoyed that I am paying for a phone that is not working properly. By the looks of it this is an issue that everyone is complaining about and nothing is being done to rectify the issue.
