Camera on IPhone 12 Pro Max not focusing

Hello, I’m having an issue with my brand new phone not focusing on close up shots. I’ve tried countless things to see if maybe it’s just me but I can’t seem to fix the problem. I’ve tried to manually focus by tapping the screen, I’ve tried changing some camera setting and even tried to reset the phone. Regardless it seems as if the phone is having trouble with taking shots from a 10 inch distance which is weird considering my IPhone XS works perfectly fine.

i am having the same issue but I do believe it is a software issue and not a hardware issue but I could be wrong, I noticed that occasionally under the the overlay where the settings it sometimes show the preview of the photo and despite the it being blurry under that overlay it is not for some reason I will attach a picture I took using the camera then the screenshot of the screen to explain what I’m talking about

Here is a copy of the transcript for everyones reference from Annakaye Apple Technical advisor'

After doing some research into this, it is definitely a

known issue by Apple and our Engineers are currently working on a solution for

this. I have also escalated this on my end.

We would need to wait for an update from the Engineers

for a resolution.  There hasn't been a

time frame provided as yet

But the engineers do know of the issues it has been

reported

I definitely escalated this for you. I would feel the

same way as you and I certainly wished there was more I could do to get this

sorted.

See everyones issues lies with close ups, my closeups are fine its if I use the 1x Optical for like a scenic shot that it becomes so out of focus you cant even tell what the photo is, if i try doing closeup only a minor point of the photo is in focus and the rest of the screen area goes manic with focusing. Has anyone also noticed the glitch in switching from wide angle to 1x it doesnt switch smoothly it blocks out and in the whole time.

I am having this issue too! I sell crystals and bought the 12 pro max. I absolutely need to be able to take clear close-up photos for my business! This will absolutely not do!! Does anyone know what the return policy is? I saw another comment where they said they were planning to return their phone under warranty. I’m not sure what that means, would someone explain to me how a return would work on a phone I’ve had for a little while? (Several months) It is under warranty. Will that allow me to return it? TIA!

I have sent mine back as I rely on the focus function of the camera for work purposes, Apple stated they were aware of the issue and working on a resoultion but something tells me its the lens and not an IOS issue sothey wont find one especially for the 12 Pro Max! I tend to agree if any fix is found it will be added to the Iphone 13 model. So would i will wait and see what happens!

They can't do that, it's against the law and accordence with your consumer rights. As the item is not fit for purpose.

Apple has to replace the device if your not happy. Or If you got it from a network provider they have to either repair it, replace it or offer you an alternative handset if its a manufacturer issue. Just contact Apple log a complaint and obtain a case reference and send that to your network provider requesting a replacement item under your consumer rights act of 2015. If they refuse report then to ofcom.

Yes, but, as somebody already respond, it still won't focus as close as the old cameras.

I want to add that the quality of the sensor is not the same between the 2.5 and 1x one... I have the iPhone 12 Pro Max, on the paper, the 1x one have better pixel (1,7 µm), etc...

It’s very annoying that Apple is selling this product as the top one (in the camera part), and feel to have in hand a Beta version of something...

It have so much problem I think we should make a class action.

Maybe we will, at last, have a some feedback from Apple. They didn’t even take the time to acknowledge or say something about our problem, it’s very disappointing.

Well i went to Apple Store and after going through 3 apple security covid checkers i got into line, after explaining my camera issue i was ultimately not allowed in store to check out a display phone to see if issue was the same. One of the employees showed me his didnt focus either and it wasnt designed to do that for a macro like shot. He said if i needed macro like shots i should use magnifier from accessibility menu. I said I.m just trying to take pics of serial numbers off equipment, and I never had problems with previous phones. He said that was basically untrue as no iphones could take closeups... ???

To be honest the whole experience was exhausting and extremely frustrating. To the point that I feel like I may jump off apple products on next upgrade. This was the OKC apple store if anyone from Apple reads this stuff.

I said hey i just want to check it out, i spent 1500 on a phone and want to see for myself and was told NO. What kind of customer service is that?

BTW, I have no covid symptoms, no fever, was wearing a mask and in fact have had both pfizer vaccine shots due to my job.
