HomePod Mini Internet Connectivity Issues

I am having issues with HomePod mini not connecting to the internet. My other HomePods have no issue when I ask a question etc. But when I ask one or both of the HomePod mini's it says " I am having trouble connecting to the internet.

I followed the trouble shooting steps apple provides but it goes back to "I am having trouble connecting to the internet." after a couple of hours. Then it is normal again.

If anyone has a solution or has also experienced this issue?

In my setup I have 3 enterprise AP Cisco 2702-Z-K9 Connected to a 3504 Controller and ONLY have 5GHz enabled with 802.11n,a,ac with 80Mhz Wide Channels channels 36,52,149 Gen WiFi5 WPA2 PSK AES CCMP with WMM enabled signal to home pod is -46dbm with noise floor at -96dbm Channel Utilization <5% There is NO band stearing. CCX version 5 Client MPF disabled supported rates 6(b) ,9,12(b) ,18,24,36,48,54 Country AU Amendments 802.11d,e,h,k,r,v,w.

Iphones, ipads, Apple TV, Home pod (big) All connect at 802.11ac and have no issues Home Pod Mini Connects at 802.11a (highest chipset supports, I wonder why they did not use a chip set that support at least 802.11ac or ax)

Home pod mini does not loose association with access point so to me it is NOT a wifi issue (The link light is on to use a Ethernet cable analogy) The home pod mini looses network connectivity exactly 24 hours later with DHCP lease time set at 1 day or 7 days. I would love to set a static IP address but the GUI does not allow this. (currently I have set a static DHCP reservation).

I have loaded the WiFi Diagnostics profile to the home pod mini and the Diag Logs profile Caught the "not working" event and sent these to apple on the 14 Dec Case 20000061617291 so far I have not heard back... Yesterday I added apple care to my home pod mini so I can get Priority Support but so far this has not progressed anything yet. I was hope with all the logs I have sent them now they could pin point the issue.

Could it be a chipset issue or an amendment issue d,e,h,k,r,v,w ?

I now have similar issues with the HomePod just acquired from Costco. I will, of course, return it. I also have many other issues with different items and applications. For people with deep knowledge and time to spare, most of this can be managed I suppose, but for the majority... Would it be time for Apple to come up with a simplified and more foolproof OS and iOS for the 95% of us ?

Angapmac, I have stated numerous times on this site, since Black Friday when I purchased an Apple AirPod Mini from Best Buy and spent a couple of days trying to get it to work properly. I shared my view on this forum that a $99 item was not worth the time/money that most of the guys here have spent, as you may have noticed. Additionally, it seems that YouTube is not up to speed with all the issues described in this forum. If we can get YouTube'er's on board with the issues, Apple might take notice of the Social Media attention and do something about it quicker.

So, instead of trying to fix Apple's issues with the HomePod/Mini, address the issues on your Social Media pages and let the negative press do the work. If we spent more time discussing the issues with HomePods on our social media, Apple would have been more driven to fix the issues before the Christmas rush. We collectively could have motivated them to get the issues resolved quicker by affecting their revenues/sales of HomePod and HomePod Mini's.

So, what say you all, about them Apples:-) Keep trouble shooting or take the product back and let Apple know how disappointed we are via social media and let them fix the issues. Just saying!!! Merry Christmas/Happy Hollidays. Bob

I seem to have resolved this issue (at least for now) by plugging the HomePod mini directly into my Mac (macOS Big Sur 11.1) and reinstalling the HomePod software and firmware.

I followed the steps in the link below; and thus far, touch wood, it has remained connected—for a whole day!

How to Update Your HomePod From Your Mac?

Only Macs using macOS Mojave and above can update HomePods

Open the Home App

Tap Edit > Edit Home from the menu bar

Select Software Update

If an update is available, tap install

A white spinning light appears on the top of HomePod while it’s updating. The update might take some time. Don’t unplug HomePod until the update is complete

If you have multiple HomePods, this should update all your HomePods at once

Hi, I have same problem with HOMEPOD 2018...

Sometimes, HOMEPOD disappear from AIRPLAY, so I can’t put music from another music service like youtube music or spotify and when I ask SIRI to send message to a contact, she said that « I am having trouble connecting to the internet » but I can ask SIRI to put music from Apple music at this moment and few minutes later everything work

I try to reset HOMEPOD but the problem still appear

I am also having this problem and have a Blue Cave. I spent a number of hours over the course of a few days, beginning Dec 19, talking to a number of people at Apple Customer Support. The first agent offered to replace the unit but as I was escalated up the chain that offer was rescinded. I was told to install logging software on the HomePod Mini but when I called back to provide the logs I was told they didn't need it and should just reset the unit again. That was the last I heard from them, over a week ago. Hopefully they have identified the problem and a fix is on the way.

Interestingly, I was told to keep the HomePod Mini on the 5 GHz network, not the 2.4 GHz. I had tried both and it didn't seem to make any difference. I had also tried placing the device about 15 feet from the router with a single drywall wall between, also to no avail.

Have you tried this. I’ve posted it at least half a dozen times.

go to the home app on device associated with homepods.

tap on the little house top left.

go to home settings.

tap on your picture, or if no picture, on your name.

turn off, then turn on “recognise my voice” follow very quick set up feature and this might fix it. It worked for me and I did inform Apple. I’m ****** off that no one appears to even try this that cleared my problem up immediately.

I got my brand new HomePod mini a couple of days ago and immediately started having the same issue- queries being answered with “I am having trouble connecting to the Internet.“ As others have noticed, it is still possible to stream to the device with the problem being seemingly localized to not being able to address queries. At first, I tried simply restarting the unit which fixed the problem temporarily but it came back within an hour or so. Also, one time it seem to clear up when I toggled Wi-Fi on my phone on and off but that was not a reliable fix. Then I tried the usual solutions, reinstalling, rebooting the router, etc. etc. all to no avail. I also tried linking to Wi-Fi on my VPN router on the theory that it was much closer but that was worse if anything.

And then, I looked at my router settings and noticed that the iPad mini was only getting 7% signal. I actually have two SSSID’s, one coming from a powerline adapter because the router is too far from my office for a decent signal. The weaker one was the one being used by the iPad mini because that was the one that the iPhone was using when the HomePod mini was installed. So I ended up switching to the SSID with the much stronger signal and since then I have no problems. It makes sense to me that the unit would have trouble if the Wi-Fi signal was not strong enough (not sure why the VPN router didn’t work since that is almost next to the HomePod mini.) I also noticed in the router settings that the HomePod mini was now showing a full 1 gbit/sec connection in comparison to the earlier slower connection.

Anyway, as I said, everything has been stable for a while now and hopefully that will continue. So maybe something of my experience might help somebody else. I would recommend checking into the signal strength of the Wi-Fi being used by the HomePod mini to see if that might be the source of the issue.

Same sort of issues.

We have 5 mini's. They work great for the most part, but then they seem to fritz out and I am unable to play music across all 5 or they each start playing something differently. On occasion, they aren't even listed as available or you can only play to one at a time. Frustrating.

Our internet set up: We live in the boonies and are limited. But we a FirstNet tablet with wifi hot spot on. This signal is picked up by an Asus router and gets repeated throughout the house. (mostly so we can have more than 10 connected devices). Works great!

Our issues seem to crop up when someone else in the family comes home or plays music. My iPhone loses control of the mini's. Then things get out of sync. My wife, daughter and I have iPhones. There are two MacBooks, an iPad and 3 apple watches in the house. Call me crazy, but it seems like the mini's are dying for attention from multiple devices at once and get confused on who controls them. There has to be a setting to limit this control across the system. And this crops up when our little guy starts yelling out "hey Siri, play <insert song title>", then things go sideways too. Currently, wife is at work, daughter sleeping and things are working seamlessly. Odd. Any insight on this issue? Thanks all. Happy NY!

I have read all 10 pages but it is not clear if it does have a “defect” or what that defect actually is. It is possible that the issue is something that can be adapted to which I seem to have done, at least for now. If that changes, I will certainly report back here. In the meantime, having had some 40 years of computer experience, I have learned that a seemingly large but in reality probably a small minority of users experiencing an issue does not necessarily mean that there is some kind of irresolvable problem for most people. I realize you are angry but it is presumptuous to decide for everybody what the “best solution” is. If what I experienced can help others find a solution, then I did the best I can. Meanwhile, for the moment anyway, I am very happy with the product.

Yeah, we love the mini's. The sound is pretty dang good and it helps us delve into "smart" home type stuff in a little more secure level. Conspiracy theorist or not, Alexa and Google's solutions are just creepy to me. We aren't going for full home automation either. Just the ability to use Siri for a few tasks and enjoy music in stereo and multiple rooms at a semi- decent price is what we are going for. I'm sure we are a setting or upgrade away from doing this seamlessly.
