HDMi to dvi on new mac mini does not work

2 days ago , i recieved a Mac Mini M1.

HDMI to DVI did not work.

Called Support , told me to send M1 back. Monday I will get a new one.

Asked them , could it not be an overall problem. They laughed with me. On that time I had four people of support on the telephone, they all told me my M1 was defect. "Send it back" Now I read on the net that it is an overall problem. USB-c to DVI would work.

The support people did not know there job my believing. If I had bought my computer in the ALDI I could understand that they did not know, but for certified APPLE support people this is not done.

i try to get compensation I have to buy usb-c to dvi adapter.

I can not understand why apple did NOT test that ???????

Same problem here. I had a mac mini late 2014 and the HDMI to DVI adapter worked fine. Thought it would be an easy purchase. Just plug in the M1 Mini to the monitor, connect the keyboard, mouse and.....

Yup. Nothing. Black screen. No connection. Apple specs say "HDMI 2.0 display video output

  • Support for one display with up to 4K resolution at 60Hz
  • DVI output using HDMI to DVI Adapter (sold separately)"

The Apple adapter does not work. So it's either a software problem or a hardware problem. Either way, the M1 mini is going back to the store until they resolve the problem. But this is definitely a known problem now.

And for 'den.thed" who suggested buying a new monitor, please send us all $200 each to buy a new monitor and we will gladly oblige. In the meantime, den.thed, acknowledge that Apple says, in writing, that the Mac Mini M1 will be compatible with DVI monitors and APPLE made a error. The consumer DID NOT make the error by having a dvi monitor. People don't buy Mac Mini's because money if falling out of their pockets. Shame on you for even posting that.

I just spent 2 weeks quarantining and testing so I could visit my parents to set up their new MacMini and have run into this problem. It’s so frustrating. I am very unsatisfied that this problem has festered for a couple of months with no solution. Opening a case, but will probably just return this computer. They have nice monitors and I’m not returning them just because they don’t do HDMI. The adapter I have is Apple branded and I think came with the Mac mini that is being replaced by this new one,

mini works fine hooked up to their ancient (but hdmi available) television.

disappointed.

I am installing the Beta right now. It actually says as soon as you start installing that it fixes an issue where HDMI to DVI will show a blank screen. So, not just the usual bug fix that is not listed. It's in the main list. I'm installing my beta onto the second partition I have. I wonder if it will update the firmware across all partitions as I'm leaving my main partition on the public release. I can finally get rid of this USB C hub and mount the mini under my desk with my other mini.

Well that's good news! Thank you for the update, it's useful to know that a solution is round the corner. As I currently have my MacMini working well on my Thunderbolt display via a Thunderbolt 3 adapter, I can afford to wait until the official release of 11.2. (I got the MacMini M1 to replace my wife's old MacMini i5 on an old VGA Formac screen but can't bear to let go of it yet!) I wonder why they can't just release the Firmware update as a separate entity to be going on with though?

I have been down so many rabbit holes trying to connect my TWO 30" LCD Cinema Displays to the new M1 Mini. I'd given up on HDMI and had a Startech Displaylink Displayport to USB-C adapter going, but that just kept failing too for some reason (after working for a week). Finally found this thread, updated to 11.2 and RE-ORDERED the Apple HDMI-to-DVI adapter (after having returned it along with countless Amazon adapters), plug it in today--no dice. I wish someone could tell me if it's the HDCP-off parameter to these old monitors or what. If anyone has had any recent success, please let us know.

Displaylink driver the problem? HDCP? NVRAM? would SwitchRESX help? So many questions.

For now I am stuck with 1 monitor (connected via a USB-C to minidisplayport adapter, connected to one of the Minidisplayport-to-DVI adapters I've had for years now.)
