M1 Mac mini display issue

I've experienced this issue as well. Assuming it is a OS issue as mine comes and goes like you said and corrects itself eventually. Doesn't appear to be a permanent issue like burn in, pixels out or a hardware limitation on the M1.

Hopefully some Apple updates will fix this bug in Big Sur. :)

*For reference, I have the 16GB M1 Mac Mini and is still happening on it.

@wilfred89, look, there's zero established trust between us, and I don't know where you are, but if there's a way we can work it out, I have a currently-under-used M1 Mini sitting here that I could loan/escrow you to test out your whole environment to see if it's the unit or something there interacting badly. I never saw that with my two M1 minis, and do get the login-screen pink squares. I dropped out of daily reading of this thread, so I don't know your attempted correction history; I assume you've swapped cables, or tried USB-C rather than HDMI or vice versa...? Do you have it connected through a hub, and if so, is the power to the hub sufficient, and 100 other level-1 diagnostic questions :)

I've had pink squares at booting, but since I joined the beta program (11.3), I haven't seen any of these (it's been months now).

I've had loads of monitor issues via HDMI, but buying a RECENT and GOOD QUALITY HDMI fixed all of them. The other cable I used was of good quality too, but way too old, which seemed to be the source of my problems.

I've got myself a second monitor (Dell), connected via a USB-C to DisplayPort cable, and no problems either.

Yup second one doing it too. But it's not the same patterns etc. Seems to appear when minimising apps, native or not.

I had this issue with my HP OMEN 27i 2K 165Hz monitor. It happens only when I set the refresh rate to 144Hz, and sometimes when open the download folder, those squares will appear.

Love the speed of this mini, but I feel like we may be first generation test rats

AH! LOL bawahahahahahahahahah That's pretty funny. I dismissed it because the "take a tour" thing is silly. But yeah, that's awesome funny!

I already made that tour with a smile and tried find retina screen and amazing trackpad on my Mac mini

Keeping the start button pressed until you get the startup options.

From there I formatted the drive completely in disk utilities. After that I did a completely fresh install of Big Sur.

Did you do install from internet or from USB?

Mine just returned after three days. Reboot resolved.

I switched to an HDMI out on a usb-c hub. So far it’s been doing ok. Just a little slower to wake the screen when coming out of sleep.

In your case, the screen and panics are likely not related, and you may have a RAM issue; idle crashes are almost always RAM issues.
