Logic Pro X 10.5 download

Hello,

I am currently running Mojave 10.14.6 and trying to update Logic Pro X to 10.5.1, however, the app store only has the latest version of Logic which my computer isn't compatible with. Can someone help with a download link for 10.5?

Thanks a lot!

Scott

it's worth having it available offline.

No Time Machine backups?

Keep in mind: you will never have too many backups!

What about the included plugins? Are they all somehow included in the app itself?

Yep, that's why you can't use them in any 3rd party app.

Sounds like you have a nice and well thought out setup there.

30 years on Macs… :)

my 128 GB SSD is running out of room

That's why I keep on saying that they will have to pry my mid-2012 pre-retina MacBook Pro from my cold, dead hands: user-upgradeable drive!

Absolutely! I have a dedicated internal HDD inside my Mac Pro for that.

I also have multiple external HDDs for extra backups. I agree -can't have enough backups!

Smart move! And it also makes it impossible to lose them as they belong inside the Logic Pro app.

Hehe. I agree, because I appear to have the same Macbook Pro as yours.

It's got the best of everything IMHO: the "outdated" and old stuff like Firewire and a DVD drive/burner along with USB-3 and Thunderbolt, and as you say it's user-upgradeable. I've upgraded mine to 16 GB RAM and replaced the HDD with a 1 TB SSD.

Very nice to travel around with despite the small 13" screen, but I can live with that when it's so small and handy to bring along.

Mine is the 15" with matte display! Which I definitely consider a major part of the "best of everything" experience. Just recently I was setting up a buddy's brand new MacBook Air (Intel), and its glossy display was literally p.i.t.e. (pain in the eye) to me. Same for our iPad, in fact, although the sturdy glass display makes sense there because you also need to touch it all the time.

Thunderbolt

Oddly, I never had any use for Thunderbolt until only a few month ago, after setting up an external display from my late father's PC gear collection via Mini DisplayPort (=Thunderbolt 1) to HDMI. That was a great addition to my studio desk.

Please do report back what you find.

It will take time. At the moment I'm not doing much audio, being busy migrating from the aging Adobe CS5.5 suite of design apps – that barely run on El Capitan – to Serif's Affinity suite which finally seems to have matured just enough so that I can proceed with the switch at last. Design is how I make a living for the most parts, so this is now high priority.

Good luck for now with your Logic projects!

You apparently got hold of the best mid-2012 Macbook Pro! I understand why you don't want to let it go ;-)

I only use the Thunderbolt connector for connecting it to a TV (for watching videos etc.).

Regarding Adobe apps: I use Photoshop CS4 now and then (the main reason I don't want to upgrade to 10.15 Catalina, but still wanted to get Logic Pro which was frustrating to see needed that OS to work. So I'm very glad I finally got to buy it WITHOUT having to upgrade my OS!). Anyway, Photoshop CS4 works fine within 10.12 High Sierra. The key to making it work, as far as I remember, is to install it on an earlier OS which is compatible. If I remember correctly I installed it on OSX 10.9.5 (Mavericks), then upgraded the OS to 10.12 (High Sierra). Might be worth trying with CS5 as well.

Like you I also looked into Affinity and after checking their trial version (and finding out that it does indeed work in much the same way as Photoshop and can be configured for a similar look and feel) I bought their Affinity Photo app when it was on a 50% sale a while back (luckily for those who haven't bought it yet, but want to (or their other apps) they currently have a 50% sale again). I haven't yet had the time to learn the new workflows, so it's still Photoshop for me, but when I do I can probably switch completely stop worrying about 32-bit support in MacOS.

Sorry to everybody else for the off-topic discussions. I was hoping for a "Private message" option here as usually found in other forums, but it doesn't seem possible.

Thanks again for all the help with making it possible for me to buy Logic Pro even when I use an older OS version. Looks like a great app, and with similarities to Garageband I think I'll be getting the hang of using it soon (although I will be looking for some "getting started" youtube videos or something).

The lerning curve is steep. Although I began already 20 years ago working with Logic 4 (pre-Apple) on a buddy's Mac, then buying Logic Express 6, 7, 8, then almost 10 years with Logic Studio 9 until last December, I still barely use the full potential and need to look up the user guide each time I haven't used Logic for, say, a few months. Flexibility comes with complexity. It's inevitable.

Hot tip:

If you want to speed up your workflow, make full use of custom keyboard shortcuts. Remove shortcuts you wouldn't ever need, add shortcuts for every task you use often.

Personally, I don't like many of the default shortcuts because they don't match standard shortcuts as used by other audio editors. So I'm always trying to match all other audio apps I'm using, currently mainly Amadeus Pro and iZotope RX8 Elements. Luckily Logic allows to customize literally any possible shortcut that there is.

Great advice! Shortcuts are always nice -especially if they're recognizable from other similar types of workflows.

Your mention of Amadeus Pro brings back memories from back in the day with Mac OS 7-9 on various Macs (Performa 630, Centris 660AV, Quadra 840AV and a couple of PowerMac models when I started playing around with digital audio.

I noticed that the dafult mode is very Garageband-like, which made me feel more at home right away (although I had problems finding some things (yes, I found the "expert" settings which I'll investigate further later, but for now I think the "beginner mode" will help me learn it better without too many distractions. I could probably need a basic "walkthrough" of some sort which I'm sure I'll find on Youtube).

I've barely used Logic before but started out with its forerunner back in the late 80s/early 90s: "Notator SL" by C-Lab (later to become Emagic, then being sold off to Apple) on the Atari ST platform.

I can see that the learning curve is steep, but luckily I've now understood the basics of DAWs in general (coming from a MIDI-sequencer only background as with Notator SL plus basic analog multitrack audio/mixing knowledge). Logic appears a lot more intuitive than many other DAWs out there, and hopefully it will work better when syncing and using external MIDI hardware (synths, drum machines etc.) together with recording and using softsynths/samplers.
