Apple Music Sync Error: 'Genius results can’t be updated right now. The network connection was lost.'

I'm trying to sync my Apple Music library with the Music app on a 2018 Mac mini.

I keep getting the error: 'Genius results can’t be updated right now. The network connection was lost.' even though my network connection is fine.

I tried logging out/in to Apple Music, Reauthorizing my Mac with Apple Music, restarting...nothing worked. My Mac mini is completely up to date. Running Big Sur 11.0.1

I can't access any of my playlists or library in my Mac, because the sync isn't working.

Finally everything looks fine, though it has been tough to get it fixed. I am not sure if it is me or the apple side that get it fixed, but this is what I did:

  1. I do remember I have output my library and one playlist that disappeared on my other devices but is still on my mac to file. But perhaps we can find a library file before I did this. I did this when the apple music is syncing forever with error messages for tons of songs, but at this moment the output files are complete.
  2. I find it is the step "" that hangs forever, and this is what I find https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3534198?answerId=16908298022#16908298022 (see tmksnyder's answer, sorry I do not know how to properly cite this). The apple music is using extremely high CPU, but I am still not sure which file is wrong.
  3. Sign out, quit music, sign in again. Now the cloud library is not syncing at all and the error code is 9039
  4. Finally, I tried this https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/15533 (Max's answer). And I choose create a new library, and import the files (library and the disappeared playlist) I mentioned in the first step. And now everything looks good and I can also upload my own music to the cloud right now. The disappeared playlist also shows up on my other devices. Then it looks that the original problem was caused by something crashed in the original library.
Opening iTunes while you hold the option key (shift key for Windows) if it works, this will create a new library and you can copy/move your music etc. over by using the "Add to Library" option under the file menu.

Working again BUT Music (formerly iTunes - I don't use Apple Music but I do use iTunes Match) is showing a bunch of duplicates as well as dupes that aren't flagged as dupes (they show the dotted cloud and they're right next to the original version). The randomness of what got duplicated and what didn't is bothersome because while my brain can handle that this entire ordeal was an Apple issue, I'd love to know why the dupes appeared and why those track in particular. Is there something about them that made duplication happen?

I found a solution to the problem. It worked for me at least. I turned off the iCloud Apple Music library both on my Mac and my phone. Then I plugged the phone into my Mac and synced the music from the Mac to my phone. Once I did that I turned the iCloud Apple Music library back on and it worked on both my Mac and iPhone. Hope this helps.

hello again guys!

indeed it’s working again but.. since then, when i sync music library in the cloud my local wifi bandwidth is overtaken/used at max.. i can’t use web browser, smartphones, apple tv... every device is slow (even freezing..), only my NAS on ethernet works just fine...

I’ve rebooted my router many times but no success.

If i manually stop upload/synchro in activity window in apple music, everything is back to normal...

Do you experience the same on your side?

The same issue here on Macbook Pro 2015 & my other macs.

My network connection is running without interruption.

After I turned on synch music with icloud the error pops up after about ½ hour: error: 'Genius results can’t be updated right now. The network connection was lost.

Aside of the following I also made reset of my iCloud music library & tried logging out/in to Apple Music, Reauthorizing my Mac with Apple Music, restarting...nothing worked.

My Macs are running Big Sur 11.0.1

I can't access my music from iCloud using other devices running apple music like smartphone or other macs.

Keep in mind that if your phone is showing only one album, it means that one of the "split" albums on your computer has a problem causing it not to sync with your cloud account. This is likely because some of the songs in it are not "added to library" and are duplicated (I found many local files had an Apple Music version added to my library, with the local file not synchronizing properly).

Check the duplicated playlists for missing or duplicated tracks. Changing to Song view and showing the iCloud status will help figure out what's going on.

All OK here as of about Nov. 25.

But before that, I was on the phone for an hour with an Apple Support rep. As a last resort (after I troubleshot my wifi network with several reboots/resets), she had me uninstall/reinstall iTunes on my PC. She was very courteous and patient, I'll give her that. She had no idea at the time that it was a system-wide issue.

The only downside on my end is that a LOT of album artwork is now gone...maybe 25 per cent.

Not sure if anyone else has noticed this but I upgraded to Big Sur 11.1 today and it has change my Music app in ways I didn't expect nor ones that I want...and I can't seem to get them to go away.

In Smart Playlists using Songs View I now have a giant image at the top of the screen of four random cover images (exactly like what you see on an iPhone Playlist)(the randomness doesn't make sense either as it doesn't seem to be based on newest song added, oldest song, etc. It's just random) and this take up a good third of the top of the screen...and it doesn't move if you scroll down like it does on iPhone. Song View is my preferred view and this really messes with things. As if the debacle that happened last month wasn't bad enough now there are more changes for changes' sake?!?

Also, if in the Library sidebar you happen to have Recently Added as an option, you can no longer view the songs in anything other than full album and there are now zero view options to choose from to combat this. It isn't a huge deal because the Smart Playlist for Recently Added isn't affected by this change but again, change for what reason?

Has anyone else seen any of these? Do any of you have a work around for the first issue I raised?
