iPhone 12 pro max keeps dimming

I have the iPhone 12 Pro Max and it constantly dims. I made sure the Automatic button was off, it still dims. I went to answer the phone and it had dimmed itself down to an almost completely dark screen. I am constantly having to reset the brightness back to where I can see the screen. Any "bright" ideas?

So.. I had my apple appointment yesterday, I made sure to video the screen dimming too before I went in, I showed them the videos and explained the issue I was having, to which they admitted was very strange, they said it’s most like software based to which I agreed, but i said, what are you going to do about it, to which they responded, there’s nothing we can do, other than try a screen replacement, so I said go ahead. Now, to do the screen replacement they have to plug the device into a diagnostic machine which will look for a fault and then allow them to do a repair, so they did this, and to both mine and the employees surprised, there were 5 faults with the device! It failed the screen test, the face I.D test, ambient lighting test and two other which I forget, but this meant that they couldn’t do a screen replacement as there were many more issues, so their solution… they straight up replaced my device there and then in the shop! I was gob smacked at this point as usual you’d hear horror stories of how they will blame you and send you away! So far it’s been 24hrs, no screen dim! I’ve even done the things I did before to make it happen, and nothing! So for now, I am happy, I hope this device continues to perform correctly and if I do experience any issues I will be sure to note them here!

my advise, video your issue on another device and head to your nearest apple store!

Hey Legitt08, I toggled off that setting. And gave it a few days but I still have it…PARTICULARLY when I’m on Amazon or any other site with a white background. I’m thinking the bright white screen has something to do with it. I lowering my brightness a little to see if it stays cooler. And I still have the cover off. As for the upgrade, I’m going to hold off for now. My wife has the 14 pro max and no issues, but she’s not using hers on many sites with a white background.

Apple customer support Refuses to admit that they have and DEFECTIVE PRODUCT! I have literally wasted hours on the phone with tech-support trying to solve this problem, all to no avail.

i find it ridiculous that Apple support waste my time with all sorts of troubleshooting nonsense, when, in fact they know that this is a major flaw.

I find it amazing that a product that cost over $1000. US has such a major flaw, and rather than admit that it is a flaw, Apple support pretends to be baffled by the issue.

This is pure BS!!!

100% with you. I’ve been dealing with it for way too long. Decided to work on this sunny Easter Sunday - in my car. I have spent six hours shifting positions, shielding the screen, moving the phone around, pulling it close to my eyes - it’s absolute madness. No doubt, they know it’s a major flaw and have no intentions of making it right. At least have the guts to own up to it. But I guess if you’re one of the masters of the universe, you don’t have to.

I so wish all of you people would read the entire issue. Everything you are suggesting has been done. I’m at the point of throwing Apple out the window and going Motorola! I love the convenience of the iPhone but you are too intrusive and you do things you think helps us. It doesn’t. The contract law is clear. When you sell a product. Your ownership is done. You no longer own that device nor the licenses it has.
