iPhone 12 Pro Max dropping calls and poor phone signal

I have just received an iPhone 12 Pro Max and am having issues.

The signal is much poorer than my iPhone 11 Pro Max in exactly the same place - 1 bar instead of 2.

The call quality is poor and calls keep dropping.

I have read on here others are having the same issue.

Is this likely to be software or hardware? I have tried everything and Apple support have been unable to help me.

Been using iPhone since it’s inception. Upgrade every year. This iPhone 12pro has been the biggest disappointment to date. Picked up my new 12 pro on release day. Constantly dropping calls and losing service with the iPhone not activated banner popping up. Happens every time my phone leaves a particular service area and in between changing towers. Airplane on/off rarely fixed the issue. Usually have to do a hard reboot to get the signal back, & then will only show 3G connectivity. Been to Verizon about the issue, they performed the network reset trick to no avail. Really disappointed in the product I’ve touted and promoted for years. Big Fail on this one apple. Hopefully you are working on a quick resolution.

I’ve drove all over the place today and had phone calls active for nearly 2 hours without an issue today. I had the same result yesterday too. Not a single dropped call since the new iOS update which has been nice. But I’m not convinced it’s truly fixed which is evident by this thread. Just waiting for another drop to be honest.

Got my 12 Pro Max on black friday (yeah, I'm ignorant, thought I'd get a deal at Verizon..lol). Anyway, worked great until last week (approx Dec 16). Had a call that seemed I became muted to the other person (I could hear them but they couldn't hear me). Then the call failed/dropped. It seems to be ok for about 30-60 secs then it happens. I have been at home, not in a car so NO switching towers. Half the time I've been connected to wifi and half the time I am on the Verizon network (live on a farm). About the fourth time it happened I put the phone on speaker and I disconnected bluetooth (thought maybe it was trying to connect to another device?!). That seemed to fix it for one call, didn't work the next time. On another call I tried turning off both bluetooth and wifi and it seemed to fix the problem. This is obviously not a way to continue operating but it will hopefully assist someone not drop an important call!

I updated to 14.3 today (post all the above issues) and the issue happened within an hour talking to my husband so it did not fix the issue.

I have now turned off 5G and reset my network so shall see if that helps.

I tried that, restoring from backup using my computer. I still have the same issues. What works for one seems may not work for another but in the end the issues seem to return. I have reset network settings and have run diagnostics with both Apple and Verizon. Nothing has resolved the issue. At this time I have 5G turned off. This issue is all over not just on this forum. I just wish the carriers or Apple would acknowledge this issue and say something. When will this be fixed? Sorry... glad that worked for you.

Right..... that is what I was saying to the person that said do the restore. It does not work. Nothing I have tried has worked. Verizon DOA my first phone and I got one they just got in. Same issues. I want someone to acknowledge there is an issue. Apple needs to say something we are all having issues with this very expensive paper weight.

go into settings and change your cellular data settings and change it to 3G. I did this and it works. That being said, I cannot use the LTE network. Every issue that everyone has been talking about, I too was dealing with the same problems. This works but apple will need to come out with a fix. Hope it works for you.

I highly recommend updating your carrier settings with your service provider, not necessarily on your device. at&t has the option on its mobile app trouble shooting section, the app tells you that it sent you a signal and resets the cellular settings after a device restart.

once I trouble-shot on at&t and updated the software, the issue was resolved.

iPhone12, 2 months...should have returned it when I had the chance.

I am having the same issue/s. I have spent hours with support; ATT and Dell...when I could not connect at all.

One thing that "helped" was to update the driver on my Dell. At least I connected, but that is it. VPN just flat out does not connect, constantly disconnects (unable to work from home...big problem). Connectivity to Zoom last about 30 minutes IF all other devices in the household are off, including my husbands SE...which works fine btw.

Phone/Text/Email reception is spotty at best...where it use to be solid.

Wish I had my 6S back, I never had connectivity issues with the hotspot, VPN or Bluetooth. You would think Apple programmers could figure this out...how did they go backwards?

I was told that I need to keep up with the latest version...I check that daily in the hopes of a magic update that will give back the quality connections I was accustomed to. I am going to continue to try for a bit due to the investment already made ($1200) if not better soon I will be switching to another phone...not Apple...as this is impacting my work capabilities.

I have the issue with iPhone 12 Pro on T-mobile. Audio goes intermittent and can disappear completely for 10s or more. Affects both uplink and downlink. Seems to mostly be on 5G when on the move (annoyingly during teleconferences), even though signal strength looks good. Connections can be dropped but not certain yet if it’s a tower handover issue. I am going to turn off 5G for a while and see if that helps. I swear I have issues even on FaceTime Audio with a Wifi connection and had some issues yesterday with similar bad audio whilst Bluetooth streaming on a Wifi network, which made me think it could be an audio codec issue. Anyone else had audio issues on Wifi networks?
