iPhone 12 Pro Max dropping calls and poor phone signal

I have just received an iPhone 12 Pro Max and am having issues.

The signal is much poorer than my iPhone 11 Pro Max in exactly the same place - 1 bar instead of 2.

The call quality is poor and calls keep dropping.

I have read on here others are having the same issue.

Is this likely to be software or hardware? I have tried everything and Apple support have been unable to help me.

Been using iPhone since it’s inception. Upgrade every year. This iPhone 12pro has been the biggest disappointment to date. Picked up my new 12 pro on release day. Constantly dropping calls and losing service with the iPhone not activated banner popping up. Happens every time my phone leaves a particular service area and in between changing towers. Airplane on/off rarely fixed the issue. Usually have to do a hard reboot to get the signal back, & then will only show 3G connectivity. Been to Verizon about the issue, they performed the network reset trick to no avail. Really disappointed in the product I’ve touted and promoted for years. Big Fail on this one apple. Hopefully you are working on a quick resolution.

This is very frustrating. I guess they do not monitor this site. The Verizon person was taken back he was like. I have never herd of this issue with the iPhone 12 you are the first one. Probably cause no one is going in the stores but calling. Even then they act like they have no idea. I am like google it, there is more than one discussion. I get the same from Apple. I just wish they would acknowledge they have a problem.

I got the 12 Pro Max a couple of weeks ago. All was fine until I had to actually use it to make longer calls (longer than 3-5 minutes). What I have come to find out is that this phone is completely unusable as a "phone." I literally cannot stay connected to ANY calls. I've spent most of my day working with Verizon support. Resetting the network settings did nothing, in fact I think it made it worse. Now they had me erasing all content and settings and starting from scratch. It's presently restoring my backup. I pretty sure this won't work. In the .000001% chance that it does, I will report back but I'm sure others have tried it. I can't say enough how sorry I am that I traded my perfectly fine 11 Max Pro for this garbage. Apple needs to do something because this device is an epic fail. Flip phones from 20 years ago were better than this.

FaceTime and WhatApp (data) calls in wi-fi are fine. I hardly ever use the device for cellular calls so I have no idea on durability but the calls i made to 800- service centers worked well so far.

However, last Sunday data calls i made on cellular kept dropping. The call would mute and then disconnect. I will re-try making data calls on cellular and post back.

re network settings: i did reset as mentioned data calls on wi-fi works perfectly well. Hopefully, it will be the same on cellular.

Overall, iPhone 12 pro max is an upgrade in business emailing and following on lengthy readings. I am optimistic about the future solutions.

Exactly Apple touches in the notes on all the other BS that doesn't truly matter. God for bid they talk about real issues like not working as a phone. I still am getting dropped calls a bit. I did a complete restore and I think that did help a bit so others know. I hooked up the phone to computer and restored and then restored from the backup. I would highly suggest people having issues doing this.

Nope, 14.3 did not fix the problem. I can still re-create it perfectly in the same area every time. More and more concerned this is a hardware issue, not a software fix as they would’ve implemented it by now.

In fact, my bigger concern would be a neutering of some the phone’s abilities via software in lieu of a costly hardware recall to fix the issue.

I reset my network settings, and turned off my 5G so that I am still on LTE. The combination of these two actions have led to a reliable level of service. I am in an area where I have WiFi, but our 5G service is not yet stable. I believe there may be a lot of kinks to be worked out with the 5G antennas still. If this is the case for you, try resetting network settings and changing your cell settings to still use LTE until your 5G becomes stable.
