iPhone 12 Pro Max dropping calls and poor phone signal

I have just received an iPhone 12 Pro Max and am having issues.

The signal is much poorer than my iPhone 11 Pro Max in exactly the same place - 1 bar instead of 2.

The call quality is poor and calls keep dropping.

I have read on here others are having the same issue.

Is this likely to be software or hardware? I have tried everything and Apple support have been unable to help me.

Been using iPhone since it’s inception. Upgrade every year. This iPhone 12pro has been the biggest disappointment to date. Picked up my new 12 pro on release day. Constantly dropping calls and losing service with the iPhone not activated banner popping up. Happens every time my phone leaves a particular service area and in between changing towers. Airplane on/off rarely fixed the issue. Usually have to do a hard reboot to get the signal back, & then will only show 3G connectivity. Been to Verizon about the issue, they performed the network reset trick to no avail. Really disappointed in the product I’ve touted and promoted for years. Big Fail on this one apple. Hopefully you are working on a quick resolution.

Nope turning 5G does nothing and resetting network settings does nothing. Trust me I’ve been through three weeks of constant troubleshooting with two different iPhone 12 pro max is and both were returned. I don’t see anything being done to fix it and my old 6+ S is perfect and has more bars and doesn’t drop calls and doesn’t affect audio like you said even over Wi-Fi. This is a worldwide issue with all carriers. Apple better get it together!

So I have the iPhone 12 pro, which I use on the UK EE network. In the office, it’s tethered to WiFi calls and mobile network for when I walk to another room. I’m able to get 4g and gsm throughout the building. I lose all voice during a call when on WiFi whilst the phone switches to mobile network. The same happens when I’m travelling. It lasts about 10-15 seconds and appears to occur when the handset either switches between WiFi calling and mobile network or when I pass between mobile base stations. To clarify, this is a handoff issue. To further clarify, I do not get this on my iPhone 8 Plus, my son’s iPhone 7 or my partner’s XS. In effect, handoff is taking 10-15 seconds for the handset.

I’m having the same issue with my phone. I’ve been in contact with Apple and Verizon and finally today Verizon admitted the issue is with them. They are still looking into the issue and have no resolution. More people need to call it in and request a trouble ticket. They have numerous tickets all linked to one parent ticket. The more complaints they get the more the better.

I’m not entirely sure this is on Verizon for several reasons. For one there are users on various networks experiencing the same issues. Also, I had no issues with my Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G for two months on their 5G network. I switched back to iPhone and my 12 Pro was flawless for quite a while. There was an iOS update one day and the next day I started dropping calls constantly. The most recent iOS update has seen my dropped call drops disappear completely.

Its difficult for me to blame my carrier when the timing of an issue or solution is exactly the same as an iOS update. Add in the fact that even when 5G is forced off and LTE, which has always been stable while being well established, doesn’t solve the issue. My dad has an LTE Android phone and hasn’t experienced these drops in the same areas I do. The only difference is I have an iPhone 12 Pro and he has a cheap Motorola phone.

agree There is no issue with the android phones but I have been working with both companies and I tickets with both and as I stated Verizon admitted the issue is on their network side. If you do WiFi calling the calls don’t drop as soon as u turn it off and are on the network the call drops. Call Verizon they have an email notices to all reps about the issues.

Of course the call drops. The phone is doing a poor job of switching networks and towers. This is why the issue doesn’t exist on Android 5G phones. The networks fine.

I don’t drop calls at home whether I’m on WiFi, 5G or LTE. I’m in a strong signal area and I am staying in one place. Before the latest iOS update I’d drop at the same spot every time while driving. It was replicated 100% of the time. But again, only iPhone was having this issue. Since the latest iOS update I’ve had no dropped calls.

I am expecting to have issues again any day now to be honest. But I do believe the issue is on Apple as if it was a 5G issue this would happen on Android devices too. But it doesn’t. Verizon likely has tickets open because it’s a widespread issue. Not necessarily because it’s on their end.

I also upgrade to a new iPhone every year. I went from to 11 pro to the 12 pro. Even purchased apple care. When I contacted apple care about the dropped calls, I usually use the speaker app, the technician suggested that I use air pods for my calls. Calls continued to drop about 30 secs then resume. Can’t believe I have spent over $1200 for this phone and support, to have calls drop like this. My boss has an iPhone 8 and does not have problem with it at all. I’m going back to the 11 pro.

I solved my problem of constant dropped calls by returning my iPhone 12 Pro Max for a refund... and purchasing an iPhone 11. The 5G network on Tmobile in my neighborhood in Atlanta was a nightmare. More than half of my calls dropped. Sometimes I wasn't able to even make calls. I tried resetting the phone, the settings, turning on and off. Nothing worked. I was also told by people on the other end of a conversation that the reception quality was lousy.

It’s definitely an Apple issue. Again, this doesn’t happen with Android 5G devices nor does it happen on 4G LTE devices including iPhone 11. This happens on iPhone 12 whether you force 5G off or on. Rebooting my phone doesn’t fix my issue at all.

If Android devices suffered the same fate it would be network related. But the network holds up just fine. So the only thing it can be is the iPhone 12.

Just got my iPhone 12 Pro yesterday. I'm a long time android user and it's my first iPhone. I've had complaints from every call I've placed saying they can only make out every other word. I have T-Mobile and even used my wi-fi calling. Nothing has helped an I never experienced service problems with my Samsung. After reading others are experiencing the same problem, I might just return it.

Same problem here on iPhone 12 mini. I am the call receiver, my partner the mini user. Calls received from him constantly drops, quality bad and choppy. We rebooted the device, but it still glitches a lot. What’s worse is that the cs representative here in North America (Canada and the US) are not providing practical solutions. The product still falls within the return period, but we can’t seem to return/exchange it in Canada now. Not sure how long we will have to bear with this, and if we are able to return it at all. Customer service team is not very responsive here, one of them(yes we were re-directed for numerous times, even tried Twitter) even has some Apple worship symptoms and told us that we should believe in whatever they said even nothing is written. If we wait until reopen to return it, the product will pass it’s listed return period. No written guarantee to secure our rights😩
