Big Sur Double Click not functioning

MacBook Pro 2020 13" Big Sur

Since the update to Big Sur no matter what settings I change there is no double click function

Files or folders must be opened manually ie. The open menu or command Open

This is a vary bad glitch and should be fixed ASAP it is a fundamental part of Mac OS and ease of use.

Very very bad bug please look into this ASAP

What you need to do is to change the "Double-Click speed" to slower. (System Preferences->Mouse).

However, there is a bug ---> You don't have access to "Double-Click Speed" if you DO NOT have a mouse connected!!!!! (so what you will need to do is to plug in a mouse, change the speed to a little slower, and disconnect your mouse).

---

This took me forever to find out and I suddenly remembered that the same date we updated our OS, my son also tested his new gamer mouse (with ultra fast cursor and click functions). So I had to borrow his mouse back, plugged into my Mac, and found out the Double-Click Speed was set to max after his test).

Actually found my cause. I'm left handed, and use a Kensington track ball instead of a mouse. the Kensington software makes the double click not work. tried adjusting everything I could find. No go. deleted Kensington plugin/driver.. all better. Sad as the software helps in running many of my CAD and other 3D apps easier, but not a deal breaker. When getting a New computer with a totally different architecture, I kinda actually expected more issue, (like when Apple went to intel from G5 was a night mare)

I use Big Sur 11.2 Beta on a late 2014 Retina 5K iMac and seem to have the same problem. I use a mouse and clicking acts totally randomly. Sometimes (though rarely) it work normally, sometimes instead of placing the cursor, one click does nothing or then it highlights the whole word or even the whole line or paragraph. A double-click typically highlights the whole word and double-clicking highlights the whole line. The only way to delete text is to click (highlighting the word) and delete one word at a time or backspace on letter at a time. While writing this it has done all of these. This is extremely frustrating and makes working with the iMac virtually impossible.

I just saw the previous reply about the mouse software as the culprit. I use (and never before had problems with) a Logitech Performance MX wireless mouse linked with Logitech's unifying software and will have to try another mouse. I have this fall had issues with the keyboard and then tried switching from my solar power Logitech keyboard to the Apple keyboard. That didn't help.
