iPhone 12 Pro Max Bluetooth Issues

Hello,

I am having Bluetooth connection issues with my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I could not been able to connect my iPhone to my headphones. (Denon AH-GC30). My iPhone does not see my headphones. Below what i did before asking this question.

I checked my headphones with my iPhone 7 plus - It works.

I checked my headphones with my Macbook Pro - It works.

Then i checked Bluetooth versions - both iPhone 12 Pro Max and my Headphones support version 5.

Lastly - i restarted my iPhone, updated to last version of iOS, reset network settings, but Bluetooth of my iPhone Does not see my Headphones.

What is wrong with it? Why such expensive phone, do not see my headphones, but my old iPhone does? Both have the same iOS 14.2.1.

(P.S. - could not select iPhone 12 Pro Max in device field, it does not exists here)

I cannot connect my 12 Pro Max to my cars Bluetooth (hands free calling only). It’s been driving me crazy.

I also have an issue with the echo auto. The phone keeps thinking it’s a pair of headphones instead of a Bluetooth speaker and keeps turning down the volume after a certain period of time.

It’s so annoying and I’ve been back and forth with Apple support and their engineers and they basically told me to contact Amazon—even though it works fine on my XS Max and 6s+.

This is so annoying and needs to be addressed immediately. When I’m driving this is a safety hazard.

I just changed my phone name from HugoTheConqueror's iPhone 12 Pro Max to HugoTheConqueror's 12iPM. Paired the phone to the BlueTooth device again and problem solved. For some stupid reason (which i have no idea what it is), once i got rid of "iPhone" in my phone's name, the problem just went away. Maybe other BlueTooth device just don't appriciate the power of "the iPhone".

My 12 pro max started having problems w latest update w my Mercedes c300 2016. Worked perfectly until now. Music and phone shows it’s paired and plays but no sound as if on mute. I’ve paired again. Same result. Only solution is to turn Bluetooth off for like 5-10

seconds and turn it back on once car is turned on. Then it works until the next time when car is off.

This is happening to mine as well. It is so frustrating and I tested my phones Bluetooth on two different devices which helped me determine that it was in fact my new phone and not the other devices. I was first experiencing the constant Bluetooth connection loss on my wireless beats and then later on my cars Bluetooth. Apple needs to fix this because this is beyond frustrating

On followup---it seems like a bluetooth audio sync problem when the iphone 12 (bluetooth turned on) syncs to an existing device that is powering up. I can get my Mercedes audio working if I toggle the bluetooth on my phone off and on for about 5 seconds once the car system is fully powered up and it will work. BUT...if I toggle on and off the car system, it still doesn't work.

To be clear when I have this problem---it looks like it is playing and all the information about the song is on the car system showing it is playing (album, song length, playing time) from the iphone...but there is no sound. Most if not all the time --the telephone audio works---so it is seems to be a problem with the Audio playback stack and not the phone audio stack.

I last posted on here a month or so ago as I could not get my iPhone 12 to pair with either my car Honda Civic 2014 or my Fitbit Charge 2.

Within the last 24 hours I have managed to connect to both!

Firstly, the Honda. Ok, so what I had to do was go into the Telephone settings, (not Bluetooth settings) and completely erase all connected devices, which were my previous iPhone and the previous owners iPhone. Via the Telephone section I then searched for available Bluetooth devices, found my iPhone, paired and all is good, finally!

Fitbit Charge 2, I deleted (forgot) my Fitbit from my iPhone Bluetooth list, rebooted my Fitbit by holding the button in for 10/12 seconds ensured notifications were on my Fitbit, synced and it now works.

I also have a Denon AVR-X3300W which I can also connect via Bluetooth to with no issues.

So, despite all of my annoyance at not being able to connect to anything via Bluetooth since acquiring mu iPhone -2 on launch, it ultimately came down to my needing to erase/forget my previous iPhone from any device to get my iPhone 12 to connect.

There clearly is no issue with Bluetooth connectivity on my iPhone 12.

In the Mercedes and AirPods--it is paired...but if there is ANY activity via phone, notifications..etc...then the audio for music doesn't play. Well--it does show it is playing...but there is no sound. The ONLY way I have found to work is I have to turn the Bluetooth on my iPhone12Max completely off for 5 seconds and turn it back on without any other notifications/phone going off...and then music sound comes through. It's soooooo annoying. Had no problems until this last update.

I believe that there is a backward compatibility with the previous Bluetooth standards. I purchased 2 x iPhone 12 Pro Max's before Christmas and had big issues with them recognising any Bluetooth device I owned. Having tried a number of the suggestions on this forum I eventually got some Bluetooth devices to connect but not all the ones I needed. I ended up returning the phones to Apple and obtaining a refund.

As we have multiple Apple devices at home and also wanting to enjoy all of the powerful features of the iPhone 12 Pro Max I took the plunge and purchased another pair of 12 Pro Max's. My logic for this was that perhaps I had just been unlucky with the first phones and also that this forum now had a number of additional suggestions for fixes. I received the new phones last week and once again have experienced big issues on Bluetooth connections. My old iPhone 7 had been removed from my Apple account and had all of the Bluetooth device connections removed from it before I did the wireless data transfer and set up the new 12 Pro Max. This time around a number of the Bluetooth devices did connect but there is one crucial device that it will not even see let alone connect to. My Suunto 9 GPS watch is something I need a phone to connect to every day in order to track any training I do and utilise Strava. The iPhone 12 Pro Max refuses to see it despite having undertaken a factory hard reset of the watch and ensuring it has the latest software update. My old iPhone 7 reconnected to it straight away when I checked to see if it was perhaps an issue with the watch. This to me is a game changer and so the new phones are being returned to Apple for a full refund.

I am new to Apple. Mine did not work either. I was very angry. I did all I could and it would not work. I talked to Apple support people and they were very helpful. We found a solution (in my case a new phone). I say give them a chance. They make scores of millions of phones every year and it seems a few of them have a problem. I am very confident they didn't release this problem knowingly. Bluetooth is a much too important function to ignore an obvious design defect. It's a lot bigger problem for them than it is for you. My experience was they truly wanted to address the problem and make it right for the customer.

I updated to iOS 14.4 --still doesn't work. In fact, it may have gotten worse. The only way I've been able to get music audio to play in my Mercedes 2016 C300 is to turn bluetooth off and on on the iPhone (not in the shortcuts but in the setup menu?). Eventually it will play the music audio. To be CLEAR--it "acts" like its playing with album cover showing its playing...but no sound. Even when music audio is not working, phone audio does work flawlessly.

I just followed a great tip from AkisPG and eliminated every Bluetooth device from my old iPhone 7, which was sitting completely dead in a drawer, so I had no idea it could affect my new 12Pro. I am thrilled to report that, after a month of absolute frustration with my new phone, it now pairs with my Bluetooth devices. If you have an old phone, give this a try. It's much easier than calling Apple, doing a factory reset, etc. I was about to return my phone until I tried this. Thank you, AkisPG, for this tip, and good luck to everyone with this ridiculous issue.

I agree. Most Bluetooth devices, or many at least, are ''universal'', which of course is the design of the technology. One should not need additional drivers, software or firmware to make it possible for these devices to connect and function on a basic level. I have some Bose products with their own apps, but they will work without them. The apps just add more bells and whistles, whether they are needed or not. Supposed to make one feel better for paying a ton I think. LOL
