New iPhone 12 pro max won’t wirelessly charge

i have a new iphone 12 max pro with an otterbax case and an iQ wireless charger. with the case on,it wont charge but will. with the case off. is this normal with these phones or do i need an apple charger now too. this worked fine oniphone x
