Iphone 12 Pro Max Keeps Losing Wifi Signal

Hi, had my iPhone for just over a week and annoyingly everyday it keeps losing Wi-Fi signal at random points during the day. Only solution I have found so far is to switch Wi-Fi off in settings and switch it back on. Have reset router several times too. The problem is getting really annoying as I switched from Android after 15 years and have never had this issue with my previous Samsung 10 or Huawei P30 Pro and other android based phones. Anybody found a solution or is it a case of sending the phone back and going back to an android based phone?

I switched off wifi assist it’s in the setting/ cellular scroll all the way to the bottom

it appears to have stopped it from happening

apple put this feature in to switch to a cellar connection if a wifi signal is weak.

I was right in front of the router and it was switching so I just turned it off

I am having the same exact problem with the 12. Dropping WiFi AND cellular data connections, or just not loading at all. Have to constantly toggle WiFi off and on. I do not have a VPN and this happens over mesh and dual band routers. Doesn’t matter if I’m at work, at home or visiting family. So that rules out the router issue. My 8 Plus never had this issue. My son’s 6s works fine as do HomePods, and iPads connected to same home network. This is obviously an issue with Phone 12 line.

UPDATE - oddly enough, the support agent I’ve been working with came with a suggestion.

next time I was having the issue try loading 17.142.160.59 with safari, I did this whilst screen recording and to my amazement everything began to load!

I've sent this across to Apple immediately in hope it gives them the evidence they need to rectify the issue.

Issue now resolved. Checked with my Network Supplier online to see if they have a 5G mast in the area, just typed my postcode into the form. They don’t!

Turned off wifi assist.

Reset Network Settings.

Switched to 4g in options.

Apparently if we have IPhone 12 Pro Max and there is no 5G mast in the area it will keep losing our wifi setting, CONSTANTLY. Plus it will run through your data allowance like lightning 😁 Hope this helps as I was treating my hair out with it 🤣 In 2 days I logged back into wifi about 50 times. It’s not dropped the wifi once since.

So I Finally got tired of connection drops, went to the Apple store and got the phone replaced. So far, doesn’t seem like the problem has returned. If it does somehow, then I will know it was an (avoidable, you listening.. Apple?) f*** up between iOS and Google Wifi, or iOS and TMo 5G settings. Will let you know.

Howdy! If your having issues with WiFi connections it might be a problem with your WiFi router. Check if any objects are blocking the router from sending a signal. If that didn’t work try to update your iPhone to the latest iOS. You can learn how to update your iOS here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204204 If that still doesn’t work then I recommend taking your iPhone to a Apple Store. See ya!

Because somewhere around 100 million iPhone 12 Pro Max users do not?

I had two iPhone 12 Pro Max phones for six months each (one was replaced due to an unrelated hardware issue) and neither ever dropped a Wi-Fi connection.

Given that, if Apple's diagnostics showed no issue, it's far more likely to be an issue with a particular router or routers than with the hardware or OS.

Regardless, if you have an issue, your best bet is still to work with Apple:

I've been using the same router (Orbi) at home since 2017 and never had this problem until I upgraded to the iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPad Mini 6. Both devices constantly drop WiFi.

Same goes with all the restaurants I’ve been visiting with WiFi over the last year as well as two friends’ house I go to regularly. Nobody has updated their routers yet the iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPad Mini 6 constantly lose their WiFi connection. My previous devices iPhone X and iPad Mini 4 had absolutely no problems and never dropped a connection like this at any of these same places with the same infrastructure I’m connecting to today.

Apple devices are the problem.

I have the same issue with my iPhone 12 Pro Max which I bought in December 2020. At first I have issues with both wifi connection and cellular (4G/5G). I called Apple support the agent asked me to reset the network settings. The issue with 4G/5G connection seem ok but Wifi still having the issue. They asked me to visit the genius bar (apple store) I went there they checked the hardware and said no issue, then tell me better do factory reset, I agreed for them to perform factory reset but nothing changes the issue still persist. The wifi keep lossing signal. Now support told me need to change modem settings.

Common!! I have iPhone6s, iPhone 8, iPad mini , laptop and other devices connect to the same modem and they are working fine no issues. Only the new iPhone 12 Pro Max that having issue.

Now Today what support said is you need to update iOS to 14.4........herrrr we keep updating the software, keep reset router, keep checking modem setting and its firmware but nothing helps and Apple support can't make anything better.

I have been such loyal customer to Apple for so long. This is really disappointed and make me regret to support Apple. I should have bought SAMSUNG.
