M1 MacBook Air with external monitor crashes when sleeping

I've gotten several crashes this way. Almost every time I let my MacBook sleep while connected to the monitor. Here's an excerpt of the crash dump:

Just another follow-up:

I set my M1 power saving settings to default now (turning off the display after 15 minutes and allowing the computer to put the laptop to sleep when the display is off).

I actually tested this by setting it to 1 minute and walking away for 2 hours. Came back after dinner, computer was on the lock screen but had not crashed. (this was the expected behavior)

So, again, setting the DP port on the monitor for the Thunderbolt input to DP 1.2 seems to have resolved the issue for me as well. I still have the it set to DP 1.4 on the standard DP input port on the monitor, which is connected to my PC.

Same issue with my Macbook Air M1 and LG Ultrafine 5K. If I allow it to go to sleep, a lot of strange things happen when I try to wake it up:

  1. Sometimes I see 2 vertical lines with a pixel issue on my LG Ultrafine 5K that only goes away when I reboot the Mac or let it go into sleep and wake up again (a few times).
  2. Sometimes the Mac reboots with the warning afterwards "Your mac has restarted because of a problem".
  3. Sometimes the Mac reboots without any warning at all.
  4. Sometimes I see the original Big Sur background while I choose a different one.
  5. Sometimes the screensaver appears and I cannot wake it from the screensaver.
  6. Sometimes it seems to take ages before it wakes up again from sleep.

Apple support didn't seem to be aware of this issue (I even talked to a Supervisor who asked me to send me log files and he told me afterwards it was a hardware issue and allowed a swap of the Macbook) and I tried 3 different Macbook M1's but they all have the same problem...

I'm not an expert but I'm quite sure this is a software problem. Unbelievable this isn't solved yet in 11.2.3 or more than 6 months later...

Please, Apple, solve this ASAP! This is VERY annoying!

I am also having the same issue. Just got the new MacBook Air with the m1 chip and running on Big Sur hooked up to an LG Screen and my computer crashed several times. Didn’t think it was bc it was going to sleep but until apple fixes the issue I am trying the suggestion of putting the battery saver mode of sleep to never and see if it works.

FYI: this issue is also happening to so many people not using any hub, dock or adaptor so I don't think it has anything to do with those devices.

In my case for example I'm using the M1 Macbook Air in combination with the Apple branded LG Ultrafine 5K monitor. I have already received 2 replacements for my Macbook and the issue is still happening on my 3rd M1 Macbook Air.

I also already tried using a different LG Ultrafine 5K monitor and the Mac keeps crashing for no reason (see my crash dumps in previous messages).

So I would think this is a software issue that can be resolved with an update.

So many months and updates later still no fix for such a serious problem (Macbooks crashing after sleep for no reason because they are connected to an Apple branded monitor...)

Who shares my opinion that this is totally unacceptable?
