macbook air m1 cannot screen mirror and back to login screen

It appears to be a problem between the M1 macs and non-Apple TV devices. I can airplay from my MBA M1 to a Gen 2 Apple TV fine but I can only airplay sound to my Sony XBR TV (screen remains black). Hopefully Apple provides a fix soon.

had similar issue with MacBook Air m1. airplay for screen share is not working. showing plan screen but audio is fine. also you airplay from YouTube.com is fine from browser. only screen share blank screen.

I have a similar issue with my Macbook Air m1 but it is when using AirPlay to connect to my 2020 model Sony Bravia TV.

It shows as connected but there is no video, just a black screen.

My wife's Intel Mac Air running Big Sur works perfectly with the same TV.

I have issues too when attempting screen mirroring on my MacBook Air 2020 M1 (16GB 8 Core) via AirPlay to an Apple TV (Apple TV is called "Living Room" for AirPlay).

Firstly, I was not seeing any Apple TVs as options under Display, even when forcing Display options to always appear in Menu Bars... interestingly enough, I could see my iPad Pro 13" as an option.

I had to revert to initiating a buggy AirPlay mirroring session by going to System Preferences > Display > AirPlay Display and then I could see my Apple TVs. I initiated it but then found audio wasn't going over, even when I forced it via Audio options once the screen share had initiated.

Also, although the screen sharing worked, it was buggy when doing a full screen Zoom, where the display repeated a distorted strip of the Zoom video-share at bottom 10% of image).

Audio normally goes over when I use AirPlay mirroring on my MacBook 16" 2019.

I have same issue. Macbook Air m1 8gb to Sony Bravia 2020 gives sound and black screen. Have you found a solution? 2.5 hours with Apple support and no resolution. My old HP laptop windows 7 64 bit has no issues. How can I stream from my new M1 to Sony? Frustrated!

Thank you! This is my first Mac. Do you think I can I count on Apple to fix this? (soon?) I rely on my computer to stream and our tv is only 1 year old. I am concerned that I may never be able to stream MBA M1 to Sony and have no experience with Apple and their "fixes". Thought the M1 was supposed to be the best out there. Thanks again.

Has apple at least acknowledged the problem ?

Please note the problem also happens when trying to connect to an external display with an hdmi cable.

I had same problem. Spent 2.5 hours with apple support and was finally told that apple was working on a fix for it. Called back a week later and this apple support person said there was no reports of a fix needed. She guided me through numerous convoluted steps and it works! Try calling until you get a knowledgeable tech. (Problem was aspect ratio on macbook air m1 would shrink when I attached the hdmi cable...got sound on sony bravia and black screen. )

Seems strange to me but the final outcome was, after numerous setting adjustments, that I had to click and drag the screen I wanted to stream from my computer screen, across my computer screen off the edge of the screen and it transferred over and onto the tv.

Well being impatient I decided to take one for the team. I signed up for the Beta program and installed 11.3 beta on my 2020 M1 MacBook Air. 

As others do, I have been getting sound but only a black screen when using Airplay to mirror my screen to my 2020 Sony Bravia XBR-65900H which supports Airplay works great with my wife's Intel MBA and even from her iMac, both of which are running 11.2. 

This is still unfortunately still broken in 11.3.

The solution for this is simple, I figured it out for a month LOL.

The name for your Apple TV should be strictly in English. Otherwise, the M1 Mac would crash and back to login screen.

There's bug in m1 Mac, the quick fix is to change the name of Apple TV in strictly English

I gave living room tv . I dont thinks its sane issue. I have able listen audio and youtube. Only screen share.
