New MacBook Air (M1, 2020) crashing all the time!

New M1 MacBook Air keeps crashing and freezing... I can't force quit as the keyboard becomes unresponsive.

Help!

Anyone else out there struggling with this?

I keep checking for system updates but nothing yet...

Erased and reinstalled OS at last 10

times. Apple sent it off for repairs twice. They couldn’t find any issues but still replaced logic board and touchpad both times. It still came back with same problems of freezing as soon as I used keyboard or touchpad. I was without a usable machine for almost two months from I bought it new. Spent many hours on phone with Apple support who didn’t have a clue and passed me around, often never getting back to me. They constantly refused to exchange it even though it was obvious the machine was a dud. Eventually they relented and I finally got a replacement. It works fine just as it should. And that was on 11.1 I remain convinced it was a hardware issue.

thanks for this reply, i am still on the fence over purchasing a new MacBook air.
all i read here is users problems with the M1 MacBook air.

That is because this is a help community. People only post

here when there is a problem. Like a hospital, how many

healthy people check in for no reason when they are healthy.

If people have working machines and are happy, they have no reason

to post here.

Also, after spending many years here helping people, a majority of

the time most issues are "self inflicted". Of course there are cases

of true bugs but they tend to get ironed out. Problem is, unlike

days of yore, the vast majority of people are not computer savvy

and often do things, often without even knowing it, that create

issues.

Same here,

the pro version with 8gb ram.

with the crashing had only few times problems, what my main problem is that this so called super performance laptop is struggling very hard after few hours of standard usage, like working on some pdf files on pdf expert app which is actually optimised for m1 chip and maybe few tabs open on safari.

I've never saw that loading ball even on my intel macbook pro 2016 that much since i had a window pc 7 years ago.

i think I will return it as I can until 31 January

Same thing here was wondering because I have the poultry eight gig which is ridiculous that Apple charges $1000 for a laptop that has 8 GB of RAM in 2021. But everything about this thing starts to lock up it’s about the same speed as my eight year old MacBook Pro. Worst thing is that Apple really probably doesn’t care. Apple if you’re listening give us our money back and give us a better laptop. Perhaps get rid of the basil perhaps start with 16 minimum gigabytes of RAM and definitely a half a terabyte of storage is pretty much the standard these days for a premium line. And if you really care about your customers put for USB-C ports on the thing as well as a microSD card slot that’s not asking too much.

My new M1 MacBook Pro can't stay running for more than 5-6 hours before it kernel panics and crashes. Have tried just about everything -- removing non-Apple software, safe mode, etc., but it doesn't work. It was working better in the limited time I had it before the 11.1 update, but I'm not certain that's the issue.

With the number of people seeing this (there are several support threads on this topic), I'm just not certain why Apple hasn't said anything?!?
