New MacBook Air (M1, 2020) crashing all the time!

New M1 MacBook Air keeps crashing and freezing... I can't force quit as the keyboard becomes unresponsive.

Help!

Anyone else out there struggling with this?

I keep checking for system updates but nothing yet...

Erased and reinstalled OS at last 10

times. Apple sent it off for repairs twice. They couldn’t find any issues but still replaced logic board and touchpad both times. It still came back with same problems of freezing as soon as I used keyboard or touchpad. I was without a usable machine for almost two months from I bought it new. Spent many hours on phone with Apple support who didn’t have a clue and passed me around, often never getting back to me. They constantly refused to exchange it even though it was obvious the machine was a dud. Eventually they relented and I finally got a replacement. It works fine just as it should. And that was on 11.1 I remain convinced it was a hardware issue.

Yes, I have been struggling with this issue also. Bought 2020 MacPro in Dec'20 for my small business, delivered Jan 6th of '21, reported crashing issue on Feb 10th. After spending around 8 hours with Apple senior advisors, was told if Mac didn't fix thru safe mode, reload MacOS, uninstall/re-install of apps and some other tests - that my new Mac would be replaced with a brand new one since the issue was reported early. That was a lie. I was a loyal Apple consumer - having bought three MacPro's for myself over the years, as well as two Mac's for each of my three children for school needs, as well as a MacAir and an iPad for my wife. Not to mention the three sets of iPhones each that I've purchased over the years. I was what you might call a loyal Platinum or Gold level purchaser and fan of Apple. To then be lied to and left with a dud product after being told "not to worry" we will look after you - I'm more that disappointed.

This is absolutely horseradish. I got a new 2020 M1 MBP 16gb RAM in early April. Returned it for a replacement towards the end of April after having tried the 4-5 troubleshoots that apple support suggested. I used my computer for about 6-7 hours a day nothing too computationally challenging and it would freeze up/beachball at least 4 times a day. I even had few third party apps. Literally a policy key, Avira, and Zoom. I had to purchase a 2020 M1 MB air for work during the 2 weeks it would take for apple to send a replacement (ridiculous that they don't have the 16gb RAM in store). AND EVEN THE air started to hit 4-5 freeze-related restarts and a new issue: freezing after inputting my password on the login/lock screen. The 2020 M1 MBP 16gb RAM replacement just came in this week. Haven't had freezing issues yet, but within 1 hour of using it, It froze after inputting my password on the login/lock screen... I guess I'll update at the end of the month.

I purchased M1 MacBook Air in February 2021. For several months, I had no issues but then it started to crash seemingly after a long sleep (at least an hour). I thought it was an external display causing it but Mac crashes whether it is connected to a display. Safe mode or clean OS install didn't fix it. Apple ran diagnostics for several days but it didn't find anything wrong. I thought it could be an external hard drive that was broken due to my Mac crashing so many times, but it wasn't connected when Mac crashed again just a few minutes ago.

Currently, only reason I can think of is Time Machine via NAS I'm trying to connect but for some reason, Time Machine isn't working.

I've wasted so many hours and days to try to figure out what's causing the crash and I'm honestly sick and tired of this. Mac is supposed to just work but apparently it just crashes all the time.

My M1 2020 MacBook crashes all the time, too. Basically every time I put it to sleep for longer than 20 minutes it wakes up to a kernel panic and restart. I still can’t really use any third-party app or extension and from the little I can make off the crash reports it seems to be my Magic Mouse and bluetooth that are causing the problems. I hate the computer and the OS so much, so disappointing.

I'm on the M1 MacBook Pro 16 gb model, too and have the same thing. Freezing, beach balls, and freezing so bad I can't invoke force quit.

When I'm watching video, the screen will freeze but the audio will continue, then sometimes the video will start up again, sometimes the startup screen appears and I have to enter my password. A couple of times, I had to force shut down and restart.

Weirdly, the system doesn't give me any error messages or crash reports.

My 2019 MacBook Pro was rock solid. I'm thinking to return this lemon and wait until Apple gets their act more together with the M1 chip.

No not rally, but I think that what was happening was that I had set my preferences to restart all open programs after a power outage . I changed that also. It is more of a pain now but no trouble

Weird. Did they explain why that might matter?
