iphone 12 dropping calls

My iPhone 12 Pro has been dropping nearly all calls since receiving after launch. The tech said "Oh, the diagnostic reported 13 out of 18 calls dropped recently, so that's not good". I purchased through Verizon, and have since gone through multiple resets, SIM card replacements and phone replacement and still have the same issues. All of the support was through Verizon and ultimately Verizon said this was a known issue with Apple and that I should take it up with them. So I just finished testing with an Apple tech, after over an hour on another phone I had to borrow to get this addressed. The Apple tech took it to his level 2 who ultimately said it was a Verizon issue, without a doubt because there is zero chance 2 new phones would have the same issue. They then placed me on hold because they said they wanted to bring Verizon on the call because I told them Verizon said to take it up with Apple. The Apple tech gave up after 35 minutes of being on hold and said we could try again later. Ha!

So no one is owning this known issue and I am stuck with a $1000 piece of garbage. Never again! I am going to have to shell out more money to get another phone and I am absolutely dropping Verizon as well. I would really like to know through all of this, is there anyone with the new iPhone 12 that is not having any dropped calls?

We have iPhone 12 and 12 Pro Max both on AT&T and not a single dropped call yet since launch of both.

This leads me to ask those who are having dropped call issues the following questions.

  1. Did you transfer the sim from your previous phone to your new phone? If you did, you should get a new sim which is provisioned for 5g
  2. Go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Voice & Data - What is it checked? If you live in an area with minimal to no 5G service (5G is still rolling out across a lot of the world), and your phone is set to 5G, you'll drop calls. Change it to 5G Auto or if you don't have 5G where you live to LTE

Otherwise it seems from those posting here, the common issue is Verizon. You should be hammering Verizon on this as it's most unlikely an issue with the phone. The entity who controls calls on your phone is not Apple. It is your cellular provider.

Go through the 4 pages of posters. Most who are having this issue have identified Verizon as their carrier. The reason I suggested you can't compare iPhone 11 with 12 is because you suggested your 12 has issues, where the 11 does not. This is I'm convinced because of the 5G rollout, which is exclusive to iPhone 12. And I'm pretty sure it seems to effect Verizon users the most.

And just about everyone else on this thread with dropped calls is a Verizon customer. There is some issue with their 5G network and iPhone. With AT&T, absolutely no issues with dropped calls on two iPhone 12 phones in our home. There are a few in my office with AT&T. No issues for them either. No one in my office is on Verizon however.

Has anyone else experienced an issue with text notification sounds? Some of my texts have a sound, but some don't. Seems like the iMessages don't make a sound and I have looked in settings everywhere and can't find a separate notification for this over any other text messages. Anyone have any experience with this one. I have iPHone12Max Pro on Verizon. I reported recently that by turning off wifi calling my calls drop less, but I am still having a few drops.

I am on ATT with IPhone 12 ProMax and have constant dropped calls(5 in the space of 45 minutes all with Apple Support). I break up on the other side when talking to others. Not a big deal with my brother, but to others who are calling me for technical support a huge issue. It is cold comfort to them that it is a phone issue or network issue. All that I know is that in a world where many are struggling to keep businesses alive my not doing my job hurts others. I am in the aviation industry and I can’t do my job via text. Text works fine on this phone. And before I get pelted with rocks about what I should do to solve my problem. Remember all I did to cause this problem was buy a phone. We just need someone with the knowledge and expertise to care about the people with problems with these phones. I believe none of us want to be complaining. I know I am just hopeful that someone out there has found a solution that works and shares. Finally tried all the posted suggestions to no avail. So hopeful for something soon. Otherwise my option is to go back to my old phone and just pay the payments every month. $1300 would buy alot of groceries. Only bright spot is that it will be broken up over 30 months with no interest. I would rather pay faithfully (which I promised to do when I got the phone) then lose a customer. Who I also made a promise to: if you have a problem call me and I will try to help you. A reliable working phone would go a long ways toward keeping that promise: Hopefully tomorrow will be a different day. Using vacation hours to go to the store and have them diagnose the issue. Dropped, poor quality calls aren’t a roadblock when you are standing in the Apple store.

When you go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Voice & data

What is it set to? It makes a significant difference on iPhone 12 for it to be set correctly for the service in your area.

When you got your phone, did you transfer the Sim Card from a previous phone? That too can make a difference and it would be advisable to have a Sim Card which is ready for 5G service.

I have AT&T and a 12 Pro Max and have not dropped a single call in three months with my phone, even in areas where my 11 Pro Max dropped calls regularly.

So what's the difference? Other than the fact that my plan does NOT include 5G, I couldn't tell you.

But what I can say is that the issue obviously isn't with the phone itself or everyone would drop calls, and they don't.

I've posited several times it's far more likely to either be a 5G issue or a bug with one particular vendor or cellular tower equipment.

The issues I see most often here is someone has their phone set on 5G when they don't 5G service. Even 5G auto can be an issue if 5G service is really rare in some locations. And I see people who transferred the sim card from a previous phone to their new 5G phone and the sim card should be 5G provisioned, meaning a new sim card should be used in the new phone.

I had an IPhone XR that started dropping calls. I too have Verizon. But then so does my husband and it never has happened to his Iphone 11.

I took it to Verizon who told me it was common with X's and I decided to get a 12.

Well, it still does it. Even after Verizon customer service reset my phone and some of its settings.

I don't know where to turn actually.

especially when it doesn't happen to my husbands phone that is exactly like mine.

Listen, I have used apple for ages and it usually never disappointed me, I love apple, their products and everything they do, however I must disagree with the rubbish you are writing!! I am having the same calls dropping issues with my iPhone 12 Pro Max, which is absolutely ridiculous, especially because it’s a phone, so calls should be perfect!! And Forbes is the only one that has had the balls to take this topic up! There are so many users out there who are experiencing this! I am one of them! And I can tell you it is really frustrating, especially after spending so much money for it, and knowing this is a premium phone!! So stop saying this junk and maybe you could help find a solution!

Forbes has an anti-Apple agenda and has for years, so their opinions are always negative towards Apple.

Nothing in life is perfect, but my 12 Pro Max on AT&T has not dropped one call since I received it last November, even in areas where I lost calls with earlier iPhones.

Unfortunately, it's impossible to post a video of a phone not doing something unless I wanted to post a twelve hour saga of it doing what it is supposed to.

Contact your cellular carrier.

I don't owe you a solution. I don't work for Apple. No one on this forum works for Apple. This is a user to user only forum. I'm not a Verizon user. I'm with AT&T. I don't need a solution as I don't have dropped calls.

You need a solution. One no individual on this forum can provide you. Apple can't solve an issue with a carrier. A carrier needs to fix their issue.

Forbes has had a burr up its *** for Apple for years now. I take NOTHING they say with much credibility.
