iphone 12 dropping calls

My iPhone 12 Pro has been dropping nearly all calls since receiving after launch. The tech said "Oh, the diagnostic reported 13 out of 18 calls dropped recently, so that's not good". I purchased through Verizon, and have since gone through multiple resets, SIM card replacements and phone replacement and still have the same issues. All of the support was through Verizon and ultimately Verizon said this was a known issue with Apple and that I should take it up with them. So I just finished testing with an Apple tech, after over an hour on another phone I had to borrow to get this addressed. The Apple tech took it to his level 2 who ultimately said it was a Verizon issue, without a doubt because there is zero chance 2 new phones would have the same issue. They then placed me on hold because they said they wanted to bring Verizon on the call because I told them Verizon said to take it up with Apple. The Apple tech gave up after 35 minutes of being on hold and said we could try again later. Ha!

So no one is owning this known issue and I am stuck with a $1000 piece of garbage. Never again! I am going to have to shell out more money to get another phone and I am absolutely dropping Verizon as well. I would really like to know through all of this, is there anyone with the new iPhone 12 that is not having any dropped calls?

We have iPhone 12 and 12 Pro Max both on AT&T and not a single dropped call yet since launch of both.

This leads me to ask those who are having dropped call issues the following questions.

  1. Did you transfer the sim from your previous phone to your new phone? If you did, you should get a new sim which is provisioned for 5g
  2. Go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Voice & Data - What is it checked? If you live in an area with minimal to no 5G service (5G is still rolling out across a lot of the world), and your phone is set to 5G, you'll drop calls. Change it to 5G Auto or if you don't have 5G where you live to LTE

Otherwise it seems from those posting here, the common issue is Verizon. You should be hammering Verizon on this as it's most unlikely an issue with the phone. The entity who controls calls on your phone is not Apple. It is your cellular provider.

Verizon just denied the existence of this issue TODAY, while trying to sell me a new 12 for $11 a month on their new "promo." The guy I spoke with did say however that the the 5G sim card is a new addition to "fix" any sim card issues that are happening...

So what's the solution? Wait until Verizon updates their end? And when will that happen? before fall? They'd have to first acknowledge that there's an issue first, no?

Update:

A very nice Executive rep called me and offered to release both our IPhone 12's. He acknowledged that the 14.3 update that Apple pushed out a couple days ago was supposed to fix the issue. It did not. I now have a Samsung phone. First non iPhone since 2009. I would still rather have a working iPhone, but the 12Pro issues were unacceptable. No dropped calls in 2 days with this Samsung. Something is loose inside it though. Wth?

Has anyone else experienced an issue with text notification sounds? Some of my texts have a sound, but some don't. Seems like the iMessages don't make a sound and I have looked in settings everywhere and can't find a separate notification for this over any other text messages. Anyone have any experience with this one. I have iPHone12Max Pro on Verizon. I reported recently that by turning off wifi calling my calls drop less, but I am still having a few drops.

I am on ATT with IPhone 12 ProMax and have constant dropped calls(5 in the space of 45 minutes all with Apple Support). I break up on the other side when talking to others. Not a big deal with my brother, but to others who are calling me for technical support a huge issue. It is cold comfort to them that it is a phone issue or network issue. All that I know is that in a world where many are struggling to keep businesses alive my not doing my job hurts others. I am in the aviation industry and I can’t do my job via text. Text works fine on this phone. And before I get pelted with rocks about what I should do to solve my problem. Remember all I did to cause this problem was buy a phone. We just need someone with the knowledge and expertise to care about the people with problems with these phones. I believe none of us want to be complaining. I know I am just hopeful that someone out there has found a solution that works and shares. Finally tried all the posted suggestions to no avail. So hopeful for something soon. Otherwise my option is to go back to my old phone and just pay the payments every month. $1300 would buy alot of groceries. Only bright spot is that it will be broken up over 30 months with no interest. I would rather pay faithfully (which I promised to do when I got the phone) then lose a customer. Who I also made a promise to: if you have a problem call me and I will try to help you. A reliable working phone would go a long ways toward keeping that promise: Hopefully tomorrow will be a different day. Using vacation hours to go to the store and have them diagnose the issue. Dropped, poor quality calls aren’t a roadblock when you are standing in the Apple store.

I went to T-Mobile yesterday because my new iPhone 12 mini is dropping calls. I’ve never had this happen before. I’ve had every iPhone since 2008. I agree that the issue was not the carrier, but Apple. T-Mobile told me that 5G is simply “not everywhere yet” so 5G phones are running on 4G networks. I am very discouraged that the latest and greatest is not good. I’m hoping a little bit of time will bring about a resolution. I know two other people with brand new 12s that are having the same issue, one is AT&T and one is Verizon.

It is late February and my iPhone 12 mini is dropping calls like crazy......I checked with spectrum carrier, they replaced SIM card and there’s no problems with them.....I turned airplane mode on and off , I turned phone on and off, still having these problems, I just tried resetting network settings as was suggested in some comments......if this still doesn’t help I will be calling apple and if they don’t fix this $1,000. Problem, I will demand my money back ...I can’t have this bad service as my dog just had knee surgery and I’m on the phone with Cornell doctor and call drops, on the phone with daughter several states away and call drops, on the phone with my primary doctor and call drops.....what is going on here......I’ve had a 15 year relationship with apple products, is it coming to an end?

we have iphone 11 and iphone SE and since November 2020 all of a sudden if you pull in my driveway calls fail on both iphones. We have been through new phones, all kinds of checking things through verizon and apple - still drops calls but only in my home. If I sit in the road before I turn in my driveway I can talk on my phone. Before 11/2020 all was fine and our phones worked beautifully. Now have to use house hard line phone to make calls. Ridiculous to have to do this with such expensive iphones. No one has an answer.

I'm suggesting the fact that an older 4G/LTE generation phone is not having an issue is not a reasonable comparison. 5G is new. Many people are having issues with dropped calls due to incorrect settings for 5G in their locations. Or in the case with say, Verizon, issues with their network. Others may have dropped calls for Wifi issues with older routers and less secure connections. It's still unlikely the phone itself, but what the phone is trying to connect to.

Apple is at fault. It is terrible that they are refusing to address this issue. It is absolutely and iPhone 12 issue regardless of carrier. My son has an 8 and we can use his phone just fine. I can be sitting next to him and my husbands call won't eve go through to me, or if it does we can't hear each other. My sons phone works just fine. We are on TMobile not Verizon.

Apple needs to own up to their issues and fix them.

I've given the explanation several times.

If the carrier can't be bothered to configure their system correctly, there's nothing Apple can do about it.

Think of it like this:

There is a traffic cop directing traffic onto a three lane highway - motorcycles go in lane 1, cars in lane 2, trucks in lane 3.

Unfortunately around the corner they only finished building a bridge for lanes 1 and 2.

Trucks keep crashing off the unfinished highway into the canyon below.

Must be the fault of those stupid trucks.

That's what blaming Apple here is; the cellular companies direct the traffic, they own the towers, but they're telling the iPhone 12 to do things the cellular infrastructure isn't doing correctly.
