Application menu bar is not responding on MI Mini

OK guys, I have a similar problem. I am using M1 mba with an external monitor on shell mode(with laptop closing up).When the problem happens, the menu bar will not respond, F3 for exposè will not work and any other functions concerned with exposè will not work.

For a quick fix, you could try to reopen the laptop shell and close it again. Or unplug the monitor cable whichever is easier. Hope this helps.

Froze once again (mini to monitor via HDMI to HDMI cable, latest OS). Closed open apps then shut off monitor. Put monitor back on and all was fine. Much better than a hard boot for you do not lose anything. Yet this is NOT acceptable and still all quite on the Apple front.

I just got this issue abt 10 minutes ago .I am thinking to restart as well but when i click the apple logo on tthe top left hand corner nothing happens. none of the buttons includint the apple logo is responsive. should i just press the power button behind the mac mini? force it to shut down.

Ook so when i press the power button to shut down i get a prompt on the screen if i want to shutdown restart etc. I can live with that

Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Options (requires your system password) > Checkbox Show Fast User Switching menu as (icon or name). Then login window

After looking at everything and running tests, a hard reboot was the only “solution” they could offer. Claimed issue was not reported in their knowledge base. The problem could be in their chip for same OS on Intel does not have this issue (see above). REPORT THIS TO THE PRESS ONLY WAY TO GET APPLE TO ACT.

Same issue. Insane that something as important as the menu bar is rendered unusable. The only way to fix on my MBP M1 is to open the screen, which is a real pain because I have it in a holder vertically. Any time the screensaver kicks on and the screen locks is when I have the issue. So it either has to be:

• Screen saver
• Screen lock
• Monitor going to sleep

My monitor is connected via thunderbolt as it is a Samsung that is also charging my laptop.

I feel bad for people on the minis, you would just likely be totally screwed. I tried to remove the com.apple.systemuiserver.plist file in my Library preferences and kill the SystemUIServer as some older threads suggested, and this did not help.

Shutting down the monitor and putting it back on unfroze SOME of the Application Menu, I could shut down the system but could NOT put it to sleep. Really strange. APPLE PLEASE RESPOND TO ALL THESE POSTS.

What do you mean. Is it still frozen after a restart?

I just pull the connector from the rear of the Mac mini. I don't worry about the power to the monitor. I've had many long conversations with Apple support including escalations to senior consultants and they try to be helpful but they are not. BTW, I'm in that mode right now. My application menu for Safari does not even display, for other apps it is non-responsive! This seems like a pretty serious issue that lots of users are having. I have a Genius Bar appointment coming up for this and if I get any new insights I'll report.

It's April 22nd, 2021 and my MacBook Air M1 is exhibiting this behavior. macOS Big Sur, 11.2.3. I think it is only happening when I have the external monitor connected. When I'm using the external monitor I have the MBA closed. If I open the MBA, let the laptop's display and the external monitor finish sorting themselves out, and then close the MBA again the menu bar springs back into life.

I spoke with “Support “ and senior advisor said new OS did not address this issue and he assumes engineers are still working on it as there is no new announcement. It would help everyone having the issue complained to apple care.

In addition, I cannot use Screenshot capture (CMD+SHIFT+4 + Ctrl )when this happens

it works

I wonder whether with a mini just shutting down the monitor, not disconnecting it while live, might cure the issue. Will try this on next freeze. I worry about pulling a live HDMI cable.

I've just begun to have this issue with mine and its happened twice now. I did restart mine as well but it came back again. I'm able to click on volume, wifi, anything on the right side. But the Apple logo, File, Edit, etc. is all frozen on the left side. Were you able to find a solution?

Same problem here! Using MacBook Air with an M1. Was working fine until I went into preferences & selected “small icon menu bar”. That’s when the issue occurred. Menu bar is no responsive. Preferences unresponsive. All Programs are unresponsive! Only access I have are in my folders on my desktop. Ridiculous.
