MacMini M1 2020 doesn't work with wired Apple A1243 keyboard

Why Apple wired keyboard A1243 doesn't work with my new MacMini M1?

I can't even go through the initial computer setup.

I tried to plug it into all the available USB connectors and it was unsuccessful.

This keyboard works great with MacMini 2012 but new MacMini M1 doesn't recognize it.

Apple, whats going on with your new products?

Mac mini 2018 or later

I can confirm this.

Something about the USB ports on the new Mac does not provide power to the keyboard, neither the USB-A or USB-C ports work with this keyboard.

I was able to get it to work by connecting it to a powered USB hub (AKA a hub that has an AC adapter that you plug into a wall). An unpowered hub did not work.

The downsides to this approach are:

  1. Extra stuff to buy
  2. Extra space to take up and wires/clutter
  3. Extra power use
  4. Keyboard will not wake up Mac from sleep, only mouse/trackpad will

I believe Logitech Options has replaced Logitech Control Center.

Yes, but only for certain devices.

Per Logitech:

"Logitech Control Center (LCC) will be fully compatible with macOS 11 (Big Sur), but only for a limited period. MacOS 11 (Big Sur) support for Logitech Control Center (LCC) will end early 2021."

"After the limited compatibility period ends the following Logitech Control Center (LCC) devices are not supported in Logitech Options."

Why did you truncate my post?

You omitted:

The link lists Logitech legacy devices that aren't supported by Big Sur.

Did you even read the link? It lists the Legacy Devices that are no longer supported.

Logitech previously announced
that Logitech Control Center (LCC) would not be compatible with macOS 11
(Big Sur). We are now excited to share that LCC will be fully
compatible with macOS 11 (Big Sur), but only for a limited period and
support for LCC on macOS 11 will end early 2021.
After the limited compatibility
period ends, the below LCC devices will not be supported in Logitech
Options and you can check for your devices here.
If you have one of these listed products you should still be able to
use basic functions such as left-click, right-click, middle button, and
scroll wheel, but customization in LCC or Logitech Options is not
possible. All other LCC devices will work with Logitech Options, which
can be downloaded here.
With the new Apple release of their
Apple Silicon-based computers, LCC will not be compatible with these new
systems. Your LCC-supported device should have basic functionality but
customization in LCC won’t be possible. All of our Logitech
Options-supported devices will be fully compatible.
If you experience any issues during
the limited compatibility period please ensure you have LCC version
3.9.11 or later installed, which can be downloaded at this link.
For additional information about keyboard, presentation and mice software support on macOS 11 (Big Sur) please check our support site and note below which devices won’t be supported.

As I assume it is software / drivers releated and will hopefully be fixed. Also heard somewhere that macs have different profile before you login to your user account that stores some user related drivers. Some reported if they turned on firewalt then they cannot login using bluetooth keyboard and mouse and must use some wired ones but after login they cann normally use bluetooth keyboard and mose.

HI, I have opposite problem, when i am using a Targus USBC hub, everything (Display, keyboard and mouse) is working fine. but my primary source was a HP Powered Thunderbolt Dock with all sort of inputs. when i am using it, only keyboard mouse and charging works, but neither the display nor the sound gets passed to screen and speaker. and I have two of those for my home and office setup, dont know how to bring them use. any help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks In Advance

Hello,

I've just realised that I can't do initial set up for mac mini m1 using my magic keyboard and mouse. So I'm getting a cheap wired usb different brand keyboard and mouse but do I need an adaptor or will they work if I just plug them straight into mac mini?

Go gentle pls as I have no idea what I'm doing and going stir crazy trying to get a simple answer to my question. I'm in UK.

An Apple magic keyboard should work when you plug the keyboard into the Mac mini m1 using the charging cable. It does for me like when the keyboard battery is depleted, I just connect with the charging cable. You can use a cheap USB mouse directly no adapters. The Magic Mouse has that awkward cable socket on the bottom so it's a hassle to corded compared to the magic keyboard.
