macbook air 2020 (m1 chip) can not print

No matter how I try, I can't get my new m1 air to print to a network printer. Tried at home, at the office, same thing happens: network printer is shown in the list, driver is auto-selected correctly, then when I add it, nothing. I tried directly to the IP address as well, same problem. Anybody else having this issue?

Hi, yes they are on the same network. the printer is wired to a mac mini that is bonjour sharing it, running OS 10.14, and can be printed used from all the other computers on the network without issue. i've checked for firmware updates (none), drivers are up to date, etc etc.

it's not on apple's list of airprint compatible printers, i'm sure that would solve my issue if it were.
