Screen Mirroring Apple Fitness Plus from Iphone to LG TV, not working...

Why is screen mirroring from iphone to lg tv not working. Preview of fitness session works, countdown of session works. Screen goes black with audio only once session begins. How do I fix this?

iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 14

Same issue - I was excited to check it out this morning. I bought a new watch last week and got 6 months of the Fitness + service. It counts down on the TV screen, then reverts back to the phone for the class. It also doesn’t acknowledge my AirPods.

Thank you - but that doesn't solve my problem and I won't be purchasing a new ATV just to do fitness. I'll cancel the subscription for something that I can use on the big screen.

There is no technical problem for any of your fellow users to "solve". Fitness+ is working the way Apple designed it to work. Unless/until they change that, this is the way it is. You can certainly let Apple know you'd like to see something different here:

It makes no difference to me whether you use Fitness+ or ever buy an Apple product again. You should buy the tools and services that best meet your needs.

This has completely frustrated and annoyed me, I’m so disappointed in Apple for not allowing screen share its basic, I’ve got Apple TV, Apple Watch, phone and IPad - seems obvious to make screen sharing possible as it would make the whole experience much better. The FIIT app allows screen sharing.

Did you tell Apple how you felt?

I love my Apple products, they generally fit every aspect of my life. This such a disappointment. It reminds me of when iPod was the only mp3 player that would play music purchased in iTunes. This is one of the reasons some people are anti-Apple. Today I was doing Yoga from my phone and I couldn't see the person who was doing the modified movement that I needed. Bad move, Apple.

PS. I apologize - it does work with Apple 4K - just not the way I expected. I thought it would work thru screen mirroring on the 4K but you can actually pair the watch with the Apple 4K and that is how it works!

So to recap, two ways I have gotten Fitness to work on a TV

  1. New IPAD AIR - USB-C to HDMI adapter to HDMI on TV
  2. Apple Watch paired with Apple TV4K (paired thru the remote app on the Apple Watch —which is the app on Watch with sideways triangle.)

Hope they will eventually update to allow via screen mirror.

So, after reading all the posts for over a week, if I understand this correctly, then the only way to watch Fitness + on a big screen TV, which is the only way this is really useful is to do the following:

  1. Purchase an Apple Watch and Monthly Fitness + Service

THEN.............

A. Buy a new Apple TV 4K or HD device

OR

B. Buy a new iPad Pro with USB-C and a USB-C to HDMI adapter accessory

Seems reasonable..........................NOT!!!!!

What Apple Watch do you have?

Yes, you need one. Apple Watch personalizes your Apple Fitness+ experience by integrating your personal metrics, like your heart rate and the calories you burn, into every workout. It brings them to life on the screen to keep you informed and motivated. To use Apple Fitness+ on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV, an Apple Watch Series 3 or later is required.

Apple Fitness+ is available in

  1. The United States
  2. Canada
  3. Australia
  4. New Zealand
  5. The United Kingdom
  6. Ireland

To answer a couple of questions I have seen:

  • IPAD Pro: I have an IPAD Pro with a Lightning Connector - that does not work thru the HDMI Adapter
  • IPAD Pro or Air with USB-C Connector (I have an IPAD Air): Those do work - via USB-C to HDMI Adapter. This works well.
  • Apple TV HR or 4K: Make sure you update to the latest operating software. I believe the Fitness App Automatically appears with the latest update. You then pair your watch with the Apple TV using the Remote App on your watch (The app with a blue circle and a white triangle in the middle). This also works well.

Thanks Tazlady and gangstermo!

I probably need to clarify my slight challenge in the pairing process.

  1. I had previously paired my watch to my Apple 4K and it was seamless as you described. I had then relocated my Apple TV HD (separate device) to the basement and that is when I had a slight hiccup. I was not able to pair at first because I needed to make sure my Apple TV was on my home network and apparently it wasn't--eventhough it was connected via wifi. I figured that out after a couple of minutes and then the watch paired fine.
  2. I had never previously paired my airpods with the Apple TV and I had to hunt around a few menu items before I figured that out. (Apple tends to bury things in their menus and it is sometimes not immediately self-evident)
  3. When I first started my work out, my heart rate did not immediately show on screen and that concerned me as to whether it was paired correctly - but it eventually did.
  4. Then I had the issue where the workout cut out abruptly as I described in earlier post--this was by far the most maddening thing.

I readily admit there is always a personal learning curve to get thru. In addition, there are inevitably going to be technical glitches. I am just less sympathetic to Apple in this scenario given the expense and their tendency to push you to buy in to more and more of their products at great expense.

Bottom line: Love/hate for me. I will probably never leave the Apple ecosystem. I'm just not as sold as I used to be. Definitely a lot more cynical about their corporate approach. I am fortunate that I have the personal resources to enjoy their products.

I had it confirmed twice by apple support and will ask again tomorrow when they ring back, they are aware of an issue and they are working on an update to fix the airplay issue, so fingers crossed you will be able to airplay fitness plus to airplay compatible devices

also if it wasnt meant to be supported we wouldnt have even been able to airplay the audio as it would have all been blocked

Your question of Apple supporting or not supporting fitness + is not what is up for debate.

Its the fact that other people with Lightning HDMI adapters intending to put iPhone and iPad content on big screens now can’t 100% of the time. And according to Apple’s website, the product description says the following:

“Overview

Use the Lightning Digital AV Adapter with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with Lightning connector. The Lightning Digital AV Adapter supports mirroring of what is displayed on your device screen — including apps, presentations, websites, slideshows, and more — to your HDMI-equipped TV, display, projector, or other compatible display in up to 1080p HD.

It also outputs video content — movies, TV shows, captured video — to your big screen in up to 1080p HD. Simply attach the Lightning Digital AV Adapter to the Lightning connector on your device and then to your TV or projector via an HDMI cable (sold separately).
