Why is screen mirroring from iphone to lg tv not working. Preview of fitness session works, countdown of session works. Screen goes black with audio only once session begins. How do I fix this?

I went ahead and bought the Apple 4K tv.
yes it works great! I was able to do as many workout on Fitness+ app that I wanted last night.
i am sore today because of it.
mad states before, my son had surgery and won’t be walking for about 5-6 weeks so that’s why I “bit the bullet” and bought the Apple 4K tv. For your Info, I was told the Apple HD also works for the Fitness+ app. I can confirm that also works because I saw it work at Beat Buy.
PLEASE NOTE: If you get one of the newest Apple TV streamers, you MUST update the firmware BEFORE you will see the Apple Fitness App ( in the way of the rings on your watch or phone or iPad) shows up on the tv.
I guess in the end it doesn’t matter why you buy it. Just know that I confirm on these two options, it does work very well.
As I posted in the official Apple Memo ( or whatever you want to call it) there will be NO OTHER WAY this will work except one of the two steamers.
Also there is NO credit being given to purchase one.

Hi, I ran into the same issue with screen mirroring for Apple fitness + to an amazon firestick. The screen on the tv would go blank only hearing the audio while the video was still on my iPhone. So I seen a video on YouTube that addressed this problem. The person took their iPad which has Usbc and connected it directly to the HDMI port on his tv and the video played. So I tried it and bought a Usbc to HDMI adapter cable and connected it to my simple lcd TV set and it played fine. The video will play on both the tablet and the tv, but the sound will only come from the tv. So if you lay your tablet flat you will only see the tv play the video. Moreover you can get a Bluetooth adapter for the tv Audio and play the sound in a more rich quality in some headphones and your set. The cable adapter was 40 dollars Canadian. Much cheaper than buying an Apple TV box which I was almost tempted to do, but thought Apple draws enough blood from me with the purchases I have made on their products and services. I still need at least a pint to make it through the day. Hope that helps some people. I am on the trial phase right now and have done 2 spin workouts with the app and really love it. I know this will only get better with time.

There is no technical problem for any of your fellow users to "solve". Fitness+ is working the way Apple designed it to work. Unless/until they change that, this is the way it is. You can certainly let Apple know you'd like to see something different here:
It makes no difference to me whether you use Fitness+ or ever buy an Apple product again. You should buy the tools and services that best meet your needs.
That’s great! But when you don’t have an Apple TV device, you have to additionally buy one in order to use Fitness+ on your TV instead on your tiny iPhone screen.
Just got off the phone with Apple support. Will not work with any tv except Apple tv. Very disappointed and not renewing my apple fitness subscription when free trial runs out.
I contacted Apple support and they advise that you need to buy the Apple TV box to allow it to work. This costs £149-£179 plus you need to buy the monthly sub for the fitness also. Bit of a rip off
I have the same problem. I just contacted tech support and they said Apple Fitness is only compatible with Apple TV and iPads. It is not compatible with screen mirroring.
I bought my watch and lightning to HDMI cable just for Apple Fitness and now they want me to shell out more money for Apple TV. Ridiculous. Very very disappointed.
I called the Apple support and talked to Sr. Advisor. I have an old Apple TV and was informed that fitness plus will only steam in Apple tvOS 14.3 or higher. He wasn’t aware of any $150 credit and also denied any such official directives to them.
I just confirmed on the phone with Apple that screen mirroring for workouts is "not supported at this time." What a blatant money grab to get people to buy Apple TVs (which I'm absolutely not going to do.....). Guess it's free trial and done for me.

This only tells me what I need and I have met those requirements.
Apple has some responsibility to also tell us what doesn’t work with a new application or of any unique requirements. I would have expected something like:
”For playing workouts on a TV, an iPad Pro with a USB-C to HDMI adapter or a Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD box are required.”
I don’t think that would have been so difficult to do.
As of January 4, 2021, A few hours of research finds that the Apple fitness plus requires an actual Apple TV 4th generation to work with the LG with Apple TV plus. I have not found a single instance of a workaround. Unfortunate! (It appears that it’s not a bug but this is a feature removal).
PS - Related, with this “feature removal” take notice the Apple fitness plus app will not even allow a user to take screenshots of even a frame of the Apple Fitness content. Forget screen recording too. Without screenshots a lot of things will change, let’s hope that other websites/companies do not remove screenshot Abilty.
So, after reading all the posts for over a week, if I understand this correctly, then the only way to watch Fitness + on a big screen TV, which is the only way this is really useful is to do the following:
THEN.............
A. Buy a new Apple TV 4K or HD device
OR
B. Buy a new iPad Pro with USB-C and a USB-C to HDMI adapter accessory
Seems reasonable..........................NOT!!!!!
Call me a sell out. I had to know if Fitness+ really worked at all. So I went to samsclub and got the 4K tv streamer.

I am attaching a screenshot of what Apple support sent me on whether or not they are doing a work around so we can use the older Apple TV. That answer is a resounding NO.
My son just had surgery Friday so this is a blessing in a way so I can workout at home when I can’t go out and jog.
Also to put to rest....NO. Apple is NOT giving anyone a credit for any reason to buy the HD or 4K tv.

samsclub has a 90 day return policy on electronics. Just so you know.
AppleTV (4K or HD versions) does work but it does not work via airplay.
Instead, you need to update the Apple TV's firmware to the latest version. You must then pair your watch to the AppleTV. Fitness+ then works via this pairing.
This might be an extremely late reply to this post, but I thought I'd chime in.
First off, I 100 percent agree with everyone here who is upset about the screen mirroring situation. I think it's a bunch of BS and if I really want to pirate these videos, not being able to screen mirror them isn't going to stop me. They have a tool built right into iOS that allows this, screen recording. So it makes little to no sense to have this inconvenience. If security wasn't the concern when making screen mirroring a concern, I do understand. As you all know who have screen mirrored wirelessly, it can be laggy and choppy, this would not be a good apple fitness experience, reason being it would rely on hardware that isn't apple's to create a smooth workout experience. What they should do is have a cross platform fitness app like their apple tv app. So again, yes it's BS, probably due to security or laggy workouts, make a fitness app apple.
I did get the screen working on my iPad to the tv using a usb-c hub with a 4k hdr 60hrz hdmi port. This has worked both on an Lg nanocell85 and a sony x900h. So if you have an ipad and a hub, it should work for you.
