Screen Mirroring Apple Fitness Plus from Iphone to LG TV, not working...

I was on the phone with Apple Support today, and the specialist told me the workaround for Fitness screen sharing is to use a HDMI adapter from an iPad or IPhone to your TV, and that should work.

Unfortunately you will need an Apple TV to utilize this feature....

Haha, so this is my ghetto rig to have Fitness + usable. Screen mirror your phones camera and point it at another device, in my case I have an iPad, that will run the Fitness +. This is ridiculous but the classes and functionality are good, just waiting for basic Airplay functionality. Shake my head maybe sooner than later if not I won’t renew.

Show me where it says it works with Fitness +. It also doesn’t work wit a number of paid streaming sites due to DRM.

if you purchased the adapter to specifically use it with Fitness +, even though it doesn’t say it will work with it and Fitness + doesn’t list it as compatible, call Apple Customer Service and see if they will let you return it and give you your money back.

Deggie, you've done what you can to defend Apple in this thread, but you're missing the point. You keep posting about what Apple has said re: compatibility, but no one is arguing that Apple has said that Fitness Plus will work over lightning to HDMI.

There are two things going on: first, people are surprised to find out that although the rest of the app works over HDMI, the actual class itself will not. Apple has not explained why this is the case, which leads most of us to conclude that it's an attempt at a cash-grab to get people to buy Apple TVs. The DRM argument is DOA since the USB-C to HDMI works, and there's nothing that I've seen that explains how the lightning-HDMI connection is somehow incapable of mirroring this particular app.

Second, folks are making it very clear that the app is not something they're interested in paying for if their choices are to either view the classes on their iPhone or buy an Apple TV. Apple can do with this information what it would like, but for those of us who have spent thousands of dollars on Apple products I don't think it's unreasonable to expect us to be upset about this situation.

Haha, glad to know you found that workaround useful. As of now it just seems that trying to get live active watch stats and airplay at the same time is not possible and thus Airplay isn’t allowed. However, I do feel that using a dongle like the lightning to hdmi should work especially on powerhouses like the iPhone 12 Pro Mac that I purchased. I really want them to fix this, just give me classes and don’t show my watch on the screen that is all I really care, at that point just start the watch workout and then give me my results at the end.

I can’t believe after all the money I have spent with Apple that they will not allow screen mirroring for the fitness app. iPhone I pad I watch and 2 Apple TV (older ones) and they want me to buy a new one JUST to work out?

I have spent 2 days on the phone with Apple support trying to figure this out. With no luck. Even the Apple rep doesn’t know what to do. I searched the internet and found this.

well something’s gotta give here. A credit to help offset the price of a new Apple TV would help, but then again I have 4 Smart TVs. I don’t really see the need to buy another Apple TV.

******the word is that you MUST buy the Apple 4K tv to stream the workout to the tv. The worker, so nice, is checking with Apple Sales to see if they can help with any credit towards a new Apple 4K tv..

I respectfully disagree that it's well spelled out in that screenshot. This doesn't say anything about screen mirroring or AirPlay, just states which version of tvOS you need if you want to use the Apple TV version of the app.

Compare to something like the NFL app, which similarly blocks certain content but clearly states what does and doesn't work in the App description:

So I’ve just had it confirmed from Apple, I think this is a terrible move & is going to cost them millions of subscriptions, myself included.

Screen mirroring not working on new Samsung Tv. Heard 4 different explanations from 4 different customer service people each one making less sense and more insulting to any sort of common sense. Basically it comes down to the fact Apple has purposefully disabled screem mirroring to force customers to but Apple TV in order to use the fitness plus as advertised. As a long tme Apple enthusiast with multiple laptops, Imac, phones, and watch... I'm disamayed at this decision and hope Apple enables screen mirroring in an update very soon as the decison to disable a primary function of Apple (screen mirroring and allowing all Apple products to share information) makes me question my loyalty to Apple products and belief in the company's integrity.

I doubt it would be working and in all the press releases they have only mentioned airplay. I also contacted Apple help desk to ask as I didn’t want to. waste £10 to try for a month. However, I did yesterday and to my biggest surprise I was able to mirror Apple fitness from my iPhone SE using the hdmi cable. So it does work!

Yes it was done on purpose. I just contacted Apple support and they said Apple Fitness is not compatible with screen sharing.

This has been fixed in the recent iOS 14.5 update. Make sure to update your compatible devices.

I had it confirmed twice by apple support and will ask again tomorrow when they ring back, they are aware of an issue and they are working on an update to fix the airplay issue, so fingers crossed you will be able to airplay fitness plus to airplay compatible devices

also if it wasnt meant to be supported we wouldnt have even been able to airplay the audio as it would have all been blocked

I hope you are correct but I´m not confident, The support agent cited the article that listed the requirements needed to play apple fitness+ and said it is not intended to be used with mirroring. I do agree that it´s strange that mirroring works until the watch kicks in. I can even watch instructional videos from apple fitness+ by mirroring but once the watch kicks in, the screen goes black.
