Big Sur - New/Open/Save dialog box -size won't save

New issue on Big Sur 11.1 -- my open and save dialog boxes "revert" to the original size.

I've tried many applications, I've done PRAM and SMC resets, I've relaunched Finder, I've resized the screen (default > scaled), yet... it remains the default, small size (which is irritating).

This is new in 11.1 - 11.01 and 10.x never had this issue.

Ok. On Big Sur 11.1 and it is insulting that no one in the macOS product team thought that half-size from previously normal open or close dialogs were wrong. Nothing the end user can do about this as the die is cast in the frameworks that create these panels. I have some Swift and Python/Objective-C applications here that set a custom framesize for open panels, and these appear as they have in the past, albeit a narrower side panel.

Although the 11.1 Open and Save panels allow one to click and drag a corner to enlarge them, it is not remembered by the application. I suggest sending feedback directly to the macOS product team. Let them know that sloppy work is not acceptible.

Oh... wow... it's even worse. Just working on a project downloading different stock image samples, and when I create a folder in Safari to save an image, the image doesn't got into that folder., it remains outside in the main folder. Even worse, when I scroll the main folder and type in a letter in the subfolder pane to the right to get to that folder, it pops me back into the main folder list.

Can anyone else confirm this? Please test.

Would appear it's not just a bug fix, appears it's a complete OS rewrite.

Nowhere near enough work was done on Big Sur to ensure it was properly tested before release.

Really disappointing.

The original poster put the green solved on my post as it solved his issue, since no one outside of Apple engineering can solve the real problem that I discussed. A green solved here certainly does not mean that the macOS product team has fixed the issue, as it will require a future update to Big Sur, provided there is internal Apple motivation to fix it.

Workaround Solution: I would recommend installing free spectacle and create a shortcut (for example cmd+u?) for the way you want the window. When the dialog box appear just hit the shortcut and it's resized. For example have it in full size or in half size to left or right. If you are pro user you should always use this to easily align your documents&programs.

I agree...this is ridiculous. We send 50+ individual emails a day with multiple PDF attachments, many with similar names and from different folders. Resizing the dialog box each time so we can see the file name is costing me time and money. What genius didn't check this? Hard to believe it's a major fix since the code was there before 11.1. C'mon Apple, get this done ASAP.

I sent the feedback. Hope they're on it. What a pain!!!
