Big Sur - New/Open/Save dialog box -size won't save

New issue on Big Sur 11.1 -- my open and save dialog boxes "revert" to the original size.

I've tried many applications, I've done PRAM and SMC resets, I've relaunched Finder, I've resized the screen (default > scaled), yet... it remains the default, small size (which is irritating).

This is new in 11.1 - 11.01 and 10.x never had this issue.

Ok. On Big Sur 11.1 and it is insulting that no one in the macOS product team thought that half-size from previously normal open or close dialogs were wrong. Nothing the end user can do about this as the die is cast in the frameworks that create these panels. I have some Swift and Python/Objective-C applications here that set a custom framesize for open panels, and these appear as they have in the past, albeit a narrower side panel.

Although the 11.1 Open and Save panels allow one to click and drag a corner to enlarge them, it is not remembered by the application. I suggest sending feedback directly to the macOS product team. Let them know that sloppy work is not acceptible.

luiz131- this fixes the Finder only. The rest of the system is still completely pooched and Apple does not care.

The future OSs will be driven towards mobile devices so all of our computers will act like phones - useless in the real world. Trillions of emojis - because that's what the kids want - with none of the professionalism that we want.

Apple turning its back on the loyal computer users who paid their way to their success and now leave us in the dirt with absolutely lousy implementation.

How do I log a complaint about this very issue. This is HELLA annoying if you're opening / closing 100s of files daily.

APPLE - PLEASE HELP!!!

Apple isn't here, which has been posted on this very thread, before, along with instructions on how to "log a complaint." The instructions are actually the "Solved" post, nestled right there at the very top of the thread.

Does anyone run the new release candidate of Big Sur 11.2? There was hope in the community that there was a fix coming for this in the 11.2 update. Is it true? Anyone? Anyone?

Anyone that is running it has agreed not to discuss it anywhere, and any discussion of it here would also be deleted due to the terms of use. I'm sure you could find the information if you searched all of the rumor mills.

Good point. I read on one of the rumor mills that this issue would be solved with 11.2. I guess we'll see for ourselves pretty soon.

As I mentioned in an earlier comment on Page 6, the sizing is fixed in that it is remembered every time you reopen the same Open/Save dialog. However, the Sidebar only saves once. If you close the Open/Save dialog without modifying the Sidebar, it will revert to its minimum width the next time you bring up the same Open/Save dialog.

Also, the position of the Open/Save dialog does not save. Its center snaps back to the center of the screen every time you reopen the same Open/Save dialog.

I’ve reported those bugs during the last beta before RC1, but they persist in RC2. I haven’t tried RC3 yet.

Thank you for bringing up the DropBox context-sub menu options just disappearing in Finder .... they work, then they just mysteriously disappear ... for no reason. I have been going back and forth with DropBox support blaming them ... and they have no clue (their fix is "force quit and relaunch finder" ) .... <sigh> ... At least I'm not crazy ... just started happening with Big Sur (short for "Big Surprise, nothing works") ...

So this morning I am actually watching the complete and utter disintegration of the Mac OS as we know it.

All of my favourites in the sidebar - the dozen or more locations I put there to help with my busy productive day - GONE. Poof. Disappeared for absolutely no reason. No dialogue box asking me to remove them. Just, gone.

Command+D shortcut to Desktop. Gone

What gives? Were we all given the time-limited beta version of BS 11.1???????? It is now reverting to - well, nothing?

I can't go on like this. And the fact I cannot get to an Apple store in the middle of this pandemic is just adding to this crisis. This is now adversely affecting how I get work done.

I am calling Apple tech support right now and will make a serious point of stating how unbelievably poor this BS is.

Absolute BS.

I had to re-add mine. It may be possible to restore them from a Time Machine backup, but I don’t know where they would be saved. It doesn’t seem to be in com.apple.finder.plist under either Preferences or Application Support.

Thankfully, since those are locations you find yourself needing to access often, it should become immediately obvious when you need them that they should be re-added to your favorites. Irritating nonetheless, though.

Sure I can re-add them. And then just wait in anticipation for Big Sur to fail yet again and lose them all.

Apple support suggests calling 800–692–7753 and asking for a Tier 2 Advisor.

Because, I've already talked to Apple support about Big Sur, specifically about FontBook not disabling fonts, and that person - bless their heart - didn't know FontBook no longer handled this in Big Sur.

Big problems at Apple right now.

As soon as I added one of the folders, all of the other magically appeared. Presto! <le sigh>

But just now noticing that TimeMachine is having a real impact on my MacBook's operation - very slow, very kludgy, watch icons coming up over and over again.

Wouldn't be surprised if TimeMachine just completely craps out under the weight of Big Sur as well.
