fitness plus not finding watch

When I start a fitness workout in Fitness+ on my iPhone, it is not finding my watch. It says "Apple Watch Unavailable". Both my phone and watch have the latest software updates, the watch is unlocked and Bluetooth is on.

Hi all, Happy new year.

After 4 hours with the Apple support they could not help me resolve the issue.

What I did after that and worked is:

Unpair Apple Watch

Set up as new Apple Watch.

30 minutes later everything was up and running

Fitness + works like a charm both on my iPhone and Apple TV.

I highly suggest you do that without wasting any time finding another solution.

You don't even loose any health data. The only thing you'll have to do is re-do your notifications for the native apps and personalise your watch faces.

Hope this helps :)

I had the same issue on my iPad Air 3rd Generation. It was actually working fine about a week ago. I was having some issues with the iPad so I did a factory reset. After doing said reset, the Fitness Plus was no longer finding my Apple Watch.

It said Watch Currently Unavailable when I would go to start a workout from the iPad. I have the Watch on OS 7.2 and iPad on 14.3 but still wouldn't work. I have the Home app downloaded and it still wouldn't work. Multiple restarts did not work either.

Today, I simply logged out of my iCloud completely on the iPad and then logged back in, after that, everything works fine now.

Finally did get this to work. I had to download the Home app to my iphone, and the Fitness app to my Apple TV 4k.

From there I launched the fitness app from Apple TV, and was able to successfully pair my iWatch. I guess I thought I would be able to use the Fitness app from my iphone and screen mirror - that does not work - it won't mirror the workout - only the preview.

Use the Apple TV Fitness app and make sure you have the Home app on your iPhone.

I also had this issue and tried restarting both my AppleWatch and iPhone 11pro many times with no fix. Then I checked for software updates on my AppleWatch and realized I had an update to 7.2 available (also make sure your iPhone is all up to date). After updating my Watch to 7.2 and then restarting both Watch and iPhone after the update, Fitness+ now finds my watch no problem. Hope this helps.

Once you have tried all of the “turn off the watch, turn off the phone etc”, if the problem persists, try logging out of iCloud and logging in again. Hard to find, you need to go to [settings] -> [profile photo] -> [sign out (at the bottom]. The cloud organises all of your cross device issues so if there’s a glitch there, it affects me things like Fitness+, opening your MacBook etc. If this still doesn’t work last resort reset your watch. However... resetting your watch will not fix the cloud issue so do that first

This worked for me! Thank you. And just to give more details for others, I had the fitness+ app open with a workout trying to find my Apple Watch. While my phone was searching for my Apple Watch, I opened the settings on my Apple Watch, one to the bluetooth, and toggled the bluetooth off then back on. The fitness+ app was able to find my watch when I did this. Thank you to hugsmindy for this suggestion!

I was able to get my iPhone working with fitness +

Several things were going on at the same time. Since I did several things this morning, I will share with you what I have done and maybe some of this will apply to you and maybe not.

November I had upgraded from iPhone 11 Pro to iPhone 12 Pro Max but I had not done anything with the older phone. It has been unplugged and hadn't thought anything of it until my Fitness+ wasn't working! I also have the following Apple devices in my home

    1. iPhone 12 Pro Max
    2. iPhone 11 Pro
    3. iMac 27"
    4. Mac Mini 2017
    5. Mac mini with Apple's ARM Processor
    6. 42mm Apple Watch
    7. 44mm Apple Watch (use this one mostly)
    8. iPad 7th Generation
    9. iPad Pro
    10. Home Mini Pod

The iPad Pro and the watch worked with the fitness+ with no issues and I have been using that for my workouts.

On to the steps (tried the fitness+ after each step to no avail except the very last step):

  1. Unpaired 42mm Watch from iPhone 11 Pro (previous phone)
  2. Unpaired 44mm Watch from iPhone 11 Pro (previous phone)
  3. Reset and paired 42mm Watch with iPhone 11 Pro Max
  4. Checked Home App - everything looks appropriate.
  5. Reboot iMac 27" - nothing changed
  6. Removed iPhone 11 Pro from list of devices (Settings on iPhone 12 Pro Max)
  7. 44mm Watch lost its cellular plan at this point. Reboot 44mm Watch and got Cellular back
  8. Signed out of my account on the iPhone 12 Pro Max
  9. Reboot iPhone 12 Pro Max
  10. Sign in to account once I was in my phone
  11. Opened up fitness app, but had to swipe up to completely close it. Re-opened again
  12. Whoa. Wanted me to sign up or sign in for Apple Fitness. I did, but it did not recognize the subscription
  13. Swiped up to close the fitness app
  14. Settings - subscriptions - checked on Apple One subscription (it's on trial for a month - first charge Jan 25th)
  15. Oddly, in the subscription, it reflected that I was downgraded to the level that doesn't include Fitness. Picked the $29.95 plan that has fitness. Waited a couple of minutes
  16. Went back to my fitness app and I don't remember if I had to sign in again or not, but I was able to begin using the videos and it was connected to the watch, finally!!!!!

I hope this helps someone out there. Check the subscription in your settings to ensure that you are still on the plan, despite the fact you can watch the videos on another device.

Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!

This was happening to me. I saw a few responses but my situation was a little different so I’m writing out in case anyone else has a similar situation.

My watch wasn’t paired correctly with my phone (may have happened when I got a new one) so I had to unpair the watch, pair it again, then make sure both my phone and the watch were updated. After these steps I was good to go!
