Chess is stuck on the most difficult setting after Big Sur update

My Chess is stuck on the most difficult setting; moving the slider makes no difference.

The game also uses the entire computer to play; it gets warm and everything else slows down.

Perhaps playing the game against a computer looking over 250 movers ahead is interesting for a Master, but it's unusable for me.

Just a thought: Apple actually TESTS their updates AND FIXES THE BUGS before issuing the updates.

With Xi's permission, of course.

I'm surprised it wasn't, "Download and install the latest drivers and restart Windows."

This makes it obvious Apple does NOT test their "upgrades."

Got another Big Sur update. Had high hopes: no change.

One would think Apple would actually TEST their updates before distributing them.

You can NOT move Chess to the Desktop; it just puts a shortcut there.

I can change the preferences, but that has no effect on the game; it is still set at the most difficult level.

Apple screwed the pooch because they didn't check their work.

Again.

Sending feedback is of no use. The Support suggested the age-old toolkit: restart, if not set right, open in safe mode & so on. I was also told that I am the only one having that trouble. I gave up.

First Quit Chess, then move that file to the Desktop, then open Chess again & do your prefs.

Not Chess, Quit Chess, then move this file only to the Desktop...
