Google Chrome location services won't stay enabled!

I am trying to enable location services on Google Chrome. Of course, I have already allowed location services within Chrome. When using google maps, I get a pop up that says "Location is turned off in Mac System Preferences". I then click and it takes me to Security & Privacy > Location Services. Enable location services is checked off, and Google Chrome is checked off (temporarily). I click the lock to prevent further changes. I return back to maps, refresh the page and get the same error. I click the pop up to take me to location services and GOOGLE CHROME IS DISABLED/ UNCHECKED. The settings seem to be changing on their own and reverting back to unchecked. It's a frustrating issue! I've cleared the cache and tried reinstallation with no avail.

^^^ This should be marked as the correct answer for this issue cos it provides good info and a workaround.

The Chrome bug report explains that the issue happens if you access OS Location permissions while a Chrome update is pending (see comment #10).

Until the bug is fixed, the workaround is to update Chrome, then set the location permissions. They should stick until at least when the next Chrome update is released. It does seem to be working for me.

It's happening here on Mojave as well.

Not sure why the answer is marked as "Solved" cos that answer doesn't contain any actual solution beyond what is effectively the catch-all tech support response of "try turning it off and on again". (All the info in that answer is useful and certainly should be followed, I'm just saying it doesn't seem to be the full solution for anyone)

This isn't just when Chrome gets updated. I can leave the preferences window open, request a location in Chrome, and when I flip back to preferences the checkbox is cleared. I really wanted a new mac book pro, but today the computer is to support the browser - and I'm not going to live with my browser not working because Apple wants me to use Safari.

Super frustrating. My Google Chrome location services will not stay enabled. I unlock, change the settings, lock the settings, and close the window. I immediately reopen the window and the Chrome location services are no longer selected. Arg!! It makes my Mac inoperable. Please correct the Mac operating system problem. I love my Mac and would like to continue as a Mac user, but . . .

Thank you!!

Same issue as described.

Along with the location services being turned off, I'm seriously annoyed by the 'lock' that supposedly makes settings unchangeable without a password. I'm delayed changing stuff on my computer, because I have to enter in a password to unlock/change a setting. Yet, the settings sometimes change on their own, even though locked with my "securing password".

So, in other words, the "lock" is a lie.

Hi Support,

I am writing to report that this problem is still not fixed!  It has escalated!

Chrome now only stays selected in the Security and Privacy popup UNTIL I select the lock in the popup to save my selection. At that very same moment of selection, it instantaneously becomes unchecked. I can watch this happen in real-time.

I can no longer use the Google Maps "show my location" feature and now must manually enter my current location.

What needs to be done to escalate this to the next step to get this fixed?

Is there a URL to report it?

Please give me some guidance so I can pursue a resolution!

¯\_( ͡❛ ͜ʖ ͡❛)_/¯

Thank you.

The response marked "Solved" clearly does not address the commenters problem. The commenter is not asking how to "Change Privacy preferences" nor how to "Use safe mode", nor how to "Set up Users...", they are asking why the Privacy settings on Chrome keep changing from enabled location services to disabled. Nobody finds the "Solved" answer helpful, they all find the follow-up comments helpful, which should make it clear that this problem remains unsolved.

It's hard to understand why a user would consider switching from Chrome to Safari, as you suggest, when the makers of Safari seem incapable of addressing or even acknowledging a bug in MacOSX.

So yesterday I was out on the road - shut the lid on my Mac and took it with me but didn't use it. Opened it this morning and it was totally out of power (this shouldnt happen as closing the lid should put it to sleep and it should last for days), and LOCATION SERVICES is off again.

Funny because if I deliberately shut down my mac and restart this doesn't happen.
