iphone 12 pro screen cracking

Is anyone else experiencing their iPhone 12 Pro screen cracking for no apparent reason? I am on my 3rd iPhone 12 Pro because my first two developed screen cracks within 2 weeks of using. Apple swapped out both phone so it didn't cost me anything other than hassle but I can't imagine Apple will continue to swap out my iPhone into perpetuity. I've used iPhones for 13 years and never had a screen crack or chip. I've never had an extended warranty because I've never had a repair. I always use the Apple leather case and I work in an office. iPhone was not dropped. Cracks just showed up. Also, this has happened to my wife, son and daughter as well. One son's iPhone 12 Pro has not cracked.

I have this problem as well. I'm on my 2nd iPhone 12 Pro and there are cracks AND scratches. The first phone got a crack completely across the bottom of the phone without being dropped. I haven't dropped this one either but a crack in the bottom left and a scratch across the left side. No clue where they came from.

I haven't been rude to you or anyone. Calling me a troll however, is very rude. I've been here on this forum, actually helping countless people with issues that can be solved with a technical solution. That's how I became level 10 and that's from other users marking my responses as helpful or having solved their issue. In this thread, however, there is no solution anyone can give you other than take your issue up with Apple directly.

If there is a chip out of the phone, it was dropped. iPhone glass doesn't just crack or chip spontaneously. If you purchased AppleCare+, the cost of a new screen is $29. If you didn't, the price is $279.

I bought iPhone 12 in Feb 2021. Unfortunately, after four months my screen broke without drop

I was on the video call with my office and saw the crack coming on my screen

I rush to the apple store. one of the team member was surprised to see why this happen and told me” I am shocked to see this” . I have a screen protector on top the associate remove the screen protector and try to analyze what is causing the damage but could not figure out and told me they can not feel anything on screen

Later they call the supervisor to see but she was surprised to see, ever couple other employees come and try to feel the screen but could not tell

the supervisor later on start telling me “this is physical damage and we can’t do anything” you have to pay $375 plus tax

I try to convince supervisor that I didn’t do anything plus I even saw the when this was happing but they all were it’s a physical damage so we can’t do anything it’s apple policy

on top of this supervisor was trying to tell me if you use your credit card, tell your credit card company to pay you back as apple will not do anything

I tried calling customer service they refuse to help and want me to pay for full repair even thought it’s not my mistake

I am very disappointed with the services apple is providing instead of looking they just want me to pay them $375 to put new screen

I will never buy apple again. I donot want to say but it’s such a big company with fake and cheap apples

My iPhone 12 Pro Max has multiple cracks from top to bottom. I don’t ever recall dropping my phone and it has both a screen protector as well as an Apple leather case. I also noticed the cracks are spreading in different directions. I could understand me dropping the phone or having a crush by something very heavy but nothing like that’s ever happened. I have also owned iPhones for many years and never have cracks just mysteriously appeared for no reason. I’m taking it in to Apple to see if they can fix it for free cause I’m not gonna pay to get this phone fixed when it was really no fault of my own. It must be a defect within the ceramic glass Apple claims to be sold strong.

Sorry, but you are saying that I am lying? Did you watch what I did?

If my phone fell, would the screen protector not be scratched, cracked or damaged? My glass screen protector is complete with zero damage.

As I posted earlier, watched fb videos, placed my phone face up on the desk, so I could continue to watch the videos as I packed up my stuff, picked up the phone from the desk and the screen was cracked.

The phone is in mint condition and is virtually brand new, this is a glass defect.

That did not just happen. Even in a case, that phone was dropped and sustained a hard impact. The back glass on iPhone cannot be replaced as it is fused to the phone. It will not be covered under warranty as accidental damage is not covered. You will be offered an Out of Warranty replacement at about 60% of the cost of the phone when new. If you invested in AppleCare+ , the replacement cost is significantly less, but again, only if you paid for that.

Apple will evaluate your phone and IF they determine there is a manufacturing defect, they will take care of it. If they don't believe there is a manufacturing defect, they will let you purchase a new screen for your phone. If you have AppleCare+ the cost is greatly reduced. If you don't, the costs to replace the screen with or without AppleCare+ can be found in this link --> iPhone Screen Repair & Replacement - Official Apple Support

Sure.

These forums are hosted by Apple for user to user technical support. Apple does not participate in the sense that they will not get involved in any of the discussions at all. If a poster asks a question, which goes unanswered for 24 hours and can be answered with a standard Apple response, like a link on how to update your phone, etc., a Community Specialist will provide a response. Otherwise Apple doesn't answer questions, read these posts, or get involved in this user to user only forum. Apple Engineering does not participate in this forum at all either.

The poster you responded to wondered why Apple isn't commenting. Apple never comments on this forum. EVER.

The time you are referring to as being scolded is not actually correct. You asked for people to report back to you on whatever it was you asked at the time, which is polling and is in fact a violation of the terms of use. I didn't scold you. I told you to be careful as polling is against forum rules.

It’s certainly the most likely explanation.

Stress cracks can occur, but your local Apple Store staff is trained to tell the difference between those and impact cracks.

If you believe it is a stress crack, take your phone in to be examined and you will be told whether it is impact damage or not.

Glass breaks if you drop it or put it under stress.

I know a multitude of people who do not use a case and have had no issues, but most use a case to add extra protection.

I purchased my iPhone 12 Pro Max in October of 2020. I work from home, so 90% of the time, my phone is either on my desk or in my purse. I installed an Otterbox phone case on it the day I got it. A week later I turned my phone over and noticed that my back screen and camera were cracked. I went to the Apple store and pleaded with them that I have only had my phone a week and had the case on the whole time and never dropped it. The lady check out the phone fir any signs of dropping it. She said she didn’t see any, but feels bad for me that they can’t replace it. Luckily I do have Apple care and it covered it for $99. Fast forward to today. I looked at my camera area and saw a crack. I asked my husband to pull my case off and let’s take a look. My heart sank when I saw the back screen was cracked again. I am heart broken.

How/where do you store your phone during the day and at night?

Did you have a screen protector on it?

Did the front or back glass crack?

Not to be rude, but not cracking a screen for 13 years never guarantees the fact you can't crack one in the future. I've gotten too overconfident myself and broke my own phone accidentally after about 8 years of a good track record.

Potential factors might be rings/jewelry consistently bumping/grinding an area, depending on how you hold your phone.

The phone I broke was first scratched when I left it in a pocket or bag with other items. Keys, pens, computers, or anything with hard materials might have done it. All depends on the pressure exerted and the type of material making contact with the phone.

I cracked that same phone (in a case) by leaving it in my back pocket. The wider surface area of the phone mixed with flexing when I bent down was not a good pairing.

If none of those seem possible, maybe it was a defect! The problem is always being able to prove it. There are so many factors influencing why it could be an accident. That's why I begrudgingly pay for AppleCare. Just not worth the risk to own an $1100 phone.

Truly sorry this happened to you.

I just purchased an iPhone 12 Pro Max. After 10 days I started seeing what looked like scratches from the left edge of the screen. Two days later those scratches are actually cracks. I called Apple customer service and they told me to take it to the Apple Store to get the screen replaced. The Apple Store would not replace the screen they said the cracks are deep scratches. They can’t be deep scratches. There are no marks on the edge of the glass nor the metal frame around the glass.
