iphone 12 pro screen cracking

Is anyone else experiencing their iPhone 12 Pro screen cracking for no apparent reason? I am on my 3rd iPhone 12 Pro because my first two developed screen cracks within 2 weeks of using. Apple swapped out both phone so it didn't cost me anything other than hassle but I can't imagine Apple will continue to swap out my iPhone into perpetuity. I've used iPhones for 13 years and never had a screen crack or chip. I've never had an extended warranty because I've never had a repair. I always use the Apple leather case and I work in an office. iPhone was not dropped. Cracks just showed up. Also, this has happened to my wife, son and daughter as well. One son's iPhone 12 Pro has not cracked.

I took my iPhone to Apple Support yesterday and it turns out I have "scratches" not "cracks" on my iphone 12 pro. The support team admitted that while the glass is more shatterproof the downside is that it scratches more easily. I'm upset because Apple should have disclosed this problem when I bought the phone. I've always stored my iphones glass side down on my bedside table with zero issues. Turns out a small grain of sand will easily scratch this new glass. Makes me wonder if it's by design so Apple can earn more revenue from replacing scratched screens which will now happen 10x more often than shattered screens. After paying over $1000 for this phone Apple now wants to me pay a couple hundred more to replace the screen. I don't think so. I will be pursuing alternative channels to get this resolved.

Me too crack developed on left edge next to volume buttons looks like a spider little over an inch. Never dropped just appeared one day. My guess design flaw from stress on the volume buttons. Offered to replace screen 29.00 or send me new phone phone with box and shipping label also with a 1200.00 hold on my checking account until they receive the damaged phone back. For this kind of money I shouldn’t have this hassle

You don’t need AppleCare if the cracks came from nowhere and you didn’t drop the phone, and it’s less than a year old, which all are seeing it came out in October. Mine is doing the same thing, didn’t even notice it until it hit the light. spiderweb cracks all around the edge only about an eighth of an inch into the phone. never dropped never damaged. Have an appointment today at the Apple store. This is a known issue all you have to do is Google it

I have also had iPhones beginning with the iPhone 6. When I purchased the iPhone 12 Pro I was pretty certain I was making an advancement in technology and getting a better phone with a tested screen for cracks and also other features than my iPhone 10. My first iPhone 12pro developed a very tiny crack on the left side a little lower than half way down generating from the left edge. The crack was hardly noticeable and a hairline crack about 5/16 “ long and I found it while cleaning the screen. I could also feel it with my fingernail. I would consider it a stress crack. Now today I was just cleaning my replacement phone screen and noticed a tiny crack almost identical to the last phone. It too is hardly visible but can be felt with my fingernail. It is visible when the screen is black and no display lit. So, from my experience of never having any other iPhone screen break or crack and now two iPhone 12pro’s crack in the identical area and the identical way I would have to suspect a flaw in the screen. I have a warranty but had to jump through hoops to get the first screen replaced because they said it was “cosmetic” . I am going to live with this one for a while unless someone can tell me it will no longer be water resistant. I would advise others to look closely at the same area and feel for a tiny crack in that area to see if my situation is coincidental or if in fact this is an area that is weak from the start. Thanks

My iPhone 12 Pro Max has multiple cracks from top to bottom. I don’t ever recall dropping my phone and it has both a screen protector as well as an Apple leather case. I also noticed the cracks are spreading in different directions. I could understand me dropping the phone or having a crush by something very heavy but nothing like that’s ever happened. I have also owned iPhones for many years and never have cracks just mysteriously appeared for no reason. I’m taking it in to Apple to see if they can fix it for free cause I’m not gonna pay to get this phone fixed when it was really no fault of my own. It must be a defect within the ceramic glass Apple claims to be sold strong.

How/where do you store your phone during the day and at night?

Did you have a screen protector on it?

Did the front or back glass crack?

Not to be rude, but not cracking a screen for 13 years never guarantees the fact you can't crack one in the future. I've gotten too overconfident myself and broke my own phone accidentally after about 8 years of a good track record.

Potential factors might be rings/jewelry consistently bumping/grinding an area, depending on how you hold your phone.

The phone I broke was first scratched when I left it in a pocket or bag with other items. Keys, pens, computers, or anything with hard materials might have done it. All depends on the pressure exerted and the type of material making contact with the phone.

I cracked that same phone (in a case) by leaving it in my back pocket. The wider surface area of the phone mixed with flexing when I bent down was not a good pairing.

If none of those seem possible, maybe it was a defect! The problem is always being able to prove it. There are so many factors influencing why it could be an accident. That's why I begrudgingly pay for AppleCare. Just not worth the risk to own an $1100 phone.

Truly sorry this happened to you.

Actually, the reality is before Apple changed to the harder to break, but easier to scratch glass formula from Corning Glass (the same glass, BTW., Samsung now uses on their phones), people came here daily, often multiple times a day upset because they dropped their phone, the glass shattered and they now had to shell out $$hundreds of dollars to replace the screen. Those incidence have been greatly reduced to almost none with the new phones. And most people, put screen protectors on their new $1,000 phones to avoid scratches. For the last several generations of phones, I've put one on every new phone before it ever was turned on.

Glass scratches, pure and simple. No one, not Apple, not Corning, not Samsung, not Google has yet to create glass which is harder to break AND scratch in the same formula.

Mine has done the same! Watching FB videos, placed my phone facing up on a desk so I could watch the videos as I got my stuff ready to go home for the day, went to pick my phone off the desk and have seen a crack form from the rectangle speaker at the top, all the way down the phone screen.

My phone is in a protective case and has a screen protector, it has absolutely zero damage and has not been dropped. The screen crack has to be a glass issue within the phone.

I have apple care but they replaced the phone because I didn’t believe it was my fault. I did not have to use a crack repair service nor pay for the replacement . The representative agreed it was a stress crack which is common in the glass industry. If it had not originated on the edge I would not have pitched such a b****. I have a feeling time will tell but only if enough people make apple aware there is a problem. Two 12 pros for me with 2 cracks from the same area. Sounds suspicious to me . It is about an inch and 1/4 below the volume down button. Very hard to see but easily felt. Good luck

I think I have figured out why I have two iPhones 12 pros with two stress cracks in the same place. On occasion I have to do a restart on the phone. This means up/down volume and then press and hold the right side button. While doing this the finger on the left side is where the tiny stress crack seems to originate. Possibly the pressure at nearly the center is too much for the screen to withstand since basically force is being applied from both sides at the same time.

Just a thought since I just had to force restart it for a complete screen freeze and no response to anything. I use this phone for business and have over 4000 pictures and 400 contacts along with many many applications. It is a 256 memory so it isn't bogged down due to being overstuffed.
