My Macs Fan Control is showing speeds ranging from 0 to 16000 rpm and constantly jumping all over. I've shut down the app and reopened with no change. I've changed presets with no change. I've reset the SMC with no change. I'm afraid that this will damage my fan. I just now set it to "full blast" and it has settled on 5500 rpm. Anty other setting and it reverts to jumping around again. Any thoughts?

Hope this is what you need.
Run the Apple Diagnostics to see if you have a hardware issue with one of the temperature sensors. If the cooling system passes the diagnostic, then perhaps you have a software issue. Try reinstalling macOS over top of itself.
There are 2 predefined presets - automatic and full blast After resetting the SMC, these two seem to engage fine. The other presets take hours or not at all to engage. I've deleted some and recreated them but still no change. This is why I am currently running on automatic.
