(Note: much of what I’m detailing below is already mentioned in this and other threads, but it’s worth repeating for newbies. 🤪 )
So… What a shame! I was so hoping I could trade up to the new Gen 5 iPad Pro, but you and others are already mentioning the same screechy glass on it. The word is spreading, but much too slowly, and there’s been no mention from Apple about any possible fix. I called Apple about the screeching on my brand new iPad Pro GEN 4, 2020 iPad Pro (#1), many times last year and every advisor I ever talk to acted like they’d never heard of it… even though threads about it had already appeared in Communities and other venues.
Replacement iPad #2 was much worse than the first. A senior advisor was sharing my iPad screen when I demonstrated skipping and stuttering lines with the Pencil (also a replacement!). She was great, and kept in touch, did data captures and submitted screenshots to the engineers . And that was the last I ever heard about that!
Replacement #3 is somewhat better. I have had to adjust to it: counter-intuitively rubbing my finger on areas of the screen where I encounter screeching, or a build up of a bit of lumpiness (that coating builds up on the tip of the pencil). I’ve learned to avoid the worst offender motions…such as only swiping things with my finger, not the pencil.
Many posters suggest using glass or matte screen protectors, but that defeats the entire purpose of the glass and gliding Pencil. A high-quality glass screen protector was so disappointing; it was like skating on new ice. For the life of me, I could not draw a steady line on it, so I returned it. Some people like the mat screen protector but for my purposes it reduces the visual sharpness of the lines that I draw professionally (I’m an illustrator, The iPad Pro is my canvas and sketchbook nowadays.
Has anyone here done a recent search on the web for the issue and found anything new about it?
