iPhone 12 pro max doesn't charge

I recently purchased a iPhone 12 Pro and a iPhone 12 Pro Max. The Max won't charge using any of the chargers I have from my iPhone X but the regular 12 Pro charges just fine. Is the Max just defective? It should charge using a standard Lightning cable that charges any newer iPhone, correct? I'm not concerned with wireless or fast charging here. I just want the Max to charge using my existing cables. Thanks!

Also, it won't let me select any iPhone 12s for the device this post is related to so I had to select iPhone 11 Pro Max

I’m so happy to see someone else is having this problem! (I’m sorry it’s happening) I am having the same issue with my iPhone 12 Pro Max.. I also am having an issue that it will give me an error code stating there is water in the port and it won’t charge. This went on for over a week. I finally went to apple and they swapped the phone for me less then 24 hours ago. Now I plug the phone in and half way through the charge ...that same error pops up again! I have probably 8 different cables and chargers here. I have tried everyone of them. Even the ones in both of our cars. They range from 5W-18W chargers. I am so frustrated! Can anyone help with this ??? Don’t suggest clearing off the phone and trying it... I’ve done that twice now!

you should be able to charge both new phones with any lightning cable.

Have you tried other chargers as well?

Here is a support article for charging issues, see if it helps.. does the cable seat properly? maybe look up into the port and check for obstructions. If something is up there power down the phone and use something nonmetallic like a toothpick

I see exactly the same problem with my 12 Pro Max. The icon shows it’s charging. The battery section shows a charging background while the battery continues to discharge. If I pull out the lightening connector and reinstall install it immediately, it may start to actually charge the battery for a bit only to see it start discharging again.

I have the same issue. I make sure the charge icon is displayed before I go to sleep only to wake up with a lower battery percentage.

You can even see on my battery graph where I plugged the charger in last night and yet it slowly drained overnight & that’s using the Apple USB 240v power outlet & charging cable.

No debris in the port & lightning connector in as far as it goes.

I've tried multiple chargers, 5W iPhone brick, 10W iPad brick, 12W iPad brick, and multiple lightning cables, including the standard Apple cable that came with my iPhone X (all of these combinations charge my iPhone X and iPhone 12 Pro every time). There is no case on the 12 Pro Max and the lightning port is clear. What I've seen is that the charging is very inconsistent. I have been able to plug it in and it will begin charging. But very frequently if I unplug it and immediately plug it back in it won't charge. However, if the phone is locked it will prompt to "Unlock iPhone to use accessories" so it knows that it's plugged in - however it won't accept the charge. Very frustrating.

I’m having the same issue with my iPhone 12 Pro max. It charges with the lightening cable, but doesn’t consistently allow me to charge wirelessly before I go to sleep at night. My wife has the iPhone 12 Pro (not the max) and hers works on the charger no problem.

I also have problems with losing my cellular signal and the only solution is resetting the network each time. I’ve had to do this almost 3-4 times per week.

Super disappointed in this phone... very frustrating.

After reading all of these, it sounds like we all are having the same problem. My 12 pro Max would not take a charge on the wireless charger last night for the first time since I got it a month ago. I had to plug it in, which it did start charging. I know it’s a phone problem, because I have four of these wireless chargers around the house and the phone doesn’t work on any of them. Ugh. New phone new issues

I'm having the same problem when using a lightning cable to charge my iPhone 12 Pro Max. If I were to use the Apple lightning cable it came with, the phone charges just fine. But when I try to use another brand of lightning cable that is MFI compatible, it starts to charge, but when I check my phone a little later, it shows that it stopped charging. Is Apple forcing us to use their own proprietary cable again? Or is this more like a software issue with the latest update?

Having the same exact issue here. Waited over a month for my back ordered iPhone 12 Pro Max. Finally got it late December, haven’t had any issues until today (2 months later) now my phone won’t charge unless it’s plugged into the car. I haven’t tried the Magna wireless charger yet. I’m using a brand new APPLE brand lightning cable & power adapter that came with my previous iPhone 11 that I held onto. My old charger & adapter had been working with zero issues until yesterday. Swapped out for the new ones never used before from previous phone, worked last night, today nothing. It’s like the charger is dead. I called Apple support, they claim they have not heard of this issue yet (even though I’ve read numerous reports of this). The nearest Apple store is a 2hr drive away. If I have them rush me a new phone in the mail they want to charge me $1099. What? I should not be having this issue. Phone is under warranty & I have no water or dropping damage to my phone. Ridiculous.

Surprisingly my phone will charge with an old generic usb cable in a car, but not plugged into the wall. ?? Since sitting in a car outside to charge my new phone will not suffice, the next day i picked up a 30 watt USB-C adapter (store was sold out of 20 watt) and a MAG SAFE charger as an alternate back up. With the new adapter and cable that came with the phone (usb-c) it now seems to be working, plugged into the wall.

Have the 12 pro max I have gone through two cables already since November I have a 18 w brick I move it a certain way after it gets to a certain point and it will stop charging completely bought a 20w brick and new cable still doing it but if I use a 5w brick I can move it round and everything and will continue to charge I contacted them they said they have no problems with the chargers or cables that they last a long while that my phone could be messed up and might need fixing or replacement ! I hate it because I’m high risk and have no one to bring it for me so I guess I have to stay with it like this until I can get to a store at some point when things have settled here which won’t be for a while
