iPhone 12 pro max doesn't charge

I recently purchased a iPhone 12 Pro and a iPhone 12 Pro Max. The Max won't charge using any of the chargers I have from my iPhone X but the regular 12 Pro charges just fine. Is the Max just defective? It should charge using a standard Lightning cable that charges any newer iPhone, correct? I'm not concerned with wireless or fast charging here. I just want the Max to charge using my existing cables. Thanks!

Also, it won't let me select any iPhone 12s for the device this post is related to so I had to select iPhone 11 Pro Max

I’m so happy to see someone else is having this problem! (I’m sorry it’s happening) I am having the same issue with my iPhone 12 Pro Max.. I also am having an issue that it will give me an error code stating there is water in the port and it won’t charge. This went on for over a week. I finally went to apple and they swapped the phone for me less then 24 hours ago. Now I plug the phone in and half way through the charge ...that same error pops up again! I have probably 8 different cables and chargers here. I have tried everyone of them. Even the ones in both of our cars. They range from 5W-18W chargers. I am so frustrated! Can anyone help with this ??? Don’t suggest clearing off the phone and trying it... I’ve done that twice now!

It’s true.. an apple rep put me on hold to find out if there were any reports with the new iPhone 12 pro phones not charging, she came back on the line & said there have not been any issues reported like mine, and wanted to charge me up front for a new phone I only had for 3 months under warranty. I’m using the USB-C cable with a 30watt USB-C adapter, it seems to have solved the problem.

Mine has charger issues now all of the sudden four months in went from overall battery from 100 to 98 percent I have had it since November that it came out I’ve charged it 109 times they said they ran diagnostics and nothing is wrong I got two different answers th said because I did the last update it changed it the other lady said no it had nothing to do with it it’s just the use of my phone mind you I have been taking good care of it I’m not sure what’s going on ! I’m starting to wonder about Apple lately ! I may just eventually go back to Android as much as it pains me !

Trying to understand your post..

Are you having issues charging your phone? Or you just don't like that the battery health has dropped to 98% and you're calling that a 'charger issue'?

If the latter, then there is nothing wrong. If you've gone thru 109 charge cycles, that's about 20% of the life the battery is designed to last for. (should get 500 charge cycles by the time it drops below 80%)

If your health is only showing 2% down, that's actually pretty good.

So if that's why you might go back to android, you'd be doing so just because batteries degrade over time?

AFAIK it won't be any different with an android.

I’m starting to have this problem. It started last week when none of my wireless chargers, including the Apple magnetic one would trigger charging on my 2 month old iPhone 12 Pro. Cable charging also failed but when in doubt, restart, and that did the trick.

the problem recurred just now and is again charging after a restart. I’m on 14.4.2.

Having the exact same problem that everyone here is describing. I’ve also tried all the tips people are suggesting (plugged directly into wall vs extension cord, restarted phone, updated phone - I’m on 14.4.2 right now - port is clean, there is no moisture in the charging port and the phone has never been exposed to water or moisture, NOTHING is working. When the phone shows it’s “charging” the percentage doesn’t move, or worse, it still goes down. I have no idea what to do... Has Apple acknowledged that this is a huge issue yet?

Yes, I’ve had my 12 pro max for maybe 30 days at most and all of a sudden it doesn’t charge. called Apple this morning and was told if they replace the phone it will be a used phone!!!!! Can you freaking believe that?! Not a new one! I have AppleCare, just got this thing, most expensive model and this is how a defective phone is treated?! Unbelievable.

It shows it’s charging, but will not move out of the red. I’ve tried it on the new Apple MagSafe, several other functioning charges throughout my home, my cars wireless charger and cars C port with cable. Nothing works.

Same issue here ! Had my iPhone 12 Pro Max for just over a week and charging with cable stopped working.

I think it stopped working once I start using the original magnetic apple wireless charger.

I have the apple 20w usb-c charger with original cable(s)!

Second problem is that apple car is not working anymore as it require for my car a cable connection.

I will try to go this week to the apple store in the hope to get some help or answers!

There has got to be a problem with the charging connections or circuitry in the the iPhone 12 Max Pro. There have just been too many similar reports of issues with the phone. I have tried cords from 4 or 5 different manufacturers, starting with two Apple cords and then several others. The typical problem is that a charging cord will work fine for a while, and then quits working. If you turn the connector over going into the phone, it will work for awhile until it quits Then the cord will not charge the phone regardless of which way it is inserted. But the same cord will charge an iPhone 7 without any issues. Apple MUST fix this problem!

My phone will finally charge properly ONLY after I bought a brand new USB-C lightning cable and power adapter. My old Apple chargers that still work on every other iPhone do not work on my 12 Pro Max. Not sure if this will work on everyone’s phones since there are SO MANY problems, but for mine and my sister’s phones, looks like we’re being forced to buy brand new chargers even if we still have older working Apple chargers.

I’ve posted this info here before but I’m reporting again, since so many more folks are registering complaints, and it’s been happening to me, too, since about two months after I got me new iPhone 12Pro. I’m now six months in and about every month or 6 weeks my phone refuses to charge. No matter the charge medium, it just won’t.

But every time, without fail, a simple power down has solved my problem. Until the next time.

Hope this helps someone.

Good luck,

Toby

Have you brought it in to apple store mine was doing some crazy stuff not charging with 18 or 20 w only with 5 w block that’s the only one and then I started noticing the overall battery after only 5 months depleated to 93 to 91 in a weeks time ! First time I went they told me oh it’s the apps you have let’s wipe the phone and start new well nope that wasn’t it it continued it’s behavior so I went back today and they were only supposed to replace the battery well turns out my phone was a dud the whole back where the battery lies with the mag safe charger etc all that was coming apart so they had to give me a brand new phone this store I go to doesn’t give refurbs they do brand new phones so I walked out with a free phone because apple screwed up in the making of my phone wonder how many duds there are and they aren’t taking care of it ! I want to thanks Stephan at Solomon pond mall and the manager forgot his name for all their assistance today thsy made sure everything was correct this time wish I could of showed the picture how friend the phone was ! Now I have a new one let’s see how it goes 1099 for this phone it better last the tech who helped me has a 12 same amount of time as I had it and he’s still at 100 percent capacity so we shall see ! But make sure you guys bring it in I’m telling ya insist on a new battery even if it passes because mine was passing until I complained how fast it was going down so they finally decided to replace it beware though if the battery is in its 90s still even if it’s bad they charge 79 bucks I talked to the manager and since they had told me before it was free because of apple care they messed up and had to honor it but it was fine because I’m covered under warranty anyways so the phone was free it’s one year limited warranty and if you want use apple care when you do have accidents obviously you cause lol. But yes get your phones check insist don’t let them run diagnosis over phone go to the store and insist on them getting you a new battery then we will see what it is
