Can't cast via Airplay from M1 MacBook Pro

Good news. Today Sony pushed out a firmware update to my 2020 Bravia x900H and now my M1 works. I have both video and sound.

I am guessing that Apple worked with them. Hopefully other brands will work soon...

I am on 11.3 Beta2.

Updated my 2019 Bravia with the latest firmware and it started working with 11.2.1.

Now onto the idiotic font book app. Since catalina Apple seems to think we should have to scroll through hundreds and hundreds of foreign language fonts with no ability to hide or delete them.

Sony does staggered rollouts so you might not actually have the very newest version that fixes the Airplay issue.

As mentioned above you can go to Sony's site and download the update to a USB drive which can be inserted in the TV for a manual update... or you can wait :-)

Mine also started working after my 2020 Sony Bravia updated its software.

Well being impatient I decided to take one for the team. I signed up for the Beta program and installed 11.3 beta on my 2020 M1 MacBook Air.

As others do, I have been getting sound but only a black screen when using Airplay to mirror my screen to my 2020 Sony Bravia XBR-65900H which supports Airplay and works great with both my wife's Intel MBA and even from her iMac, both of which are running 11.2.

Sorry to report that this is still broken in 11.3.

I did send the bug report in to Apple via their Beta messaging system.

You may check the firmware on Sony website and update it by USB driver manually.

I just did and airplay works on my M1 MacBook Pro but it is very laggy...

Same problem here, M1 MacBook Pro (Big Sur) with a Sony Bravia AG9 TV (2019), unable to mirror screen or Airplay from the M1 to the TV. As mentioned by others, the sound works but the screen stays black.

For the same TV,

• Able to chrome cast videos via VLC Player from the M1
• Airplay through YouTube via Safari works from the M1
• Airplay/screen mirroring through iPhone XR works
• Airplay from my wife's MacBook Air 2014 (Big Sur) works

i.e. the problem seems with the M1 compatibility with the TV. Apple needs to fix this for the M1 machines since Sony could point out that AirPlay on their TV is working from Intel Macs and iPhones.

Any help/suggestions/solutions very welcome!

Can confirm that it works now after the latest software update on my Sony Bravia 2019 AG9

I am experiencing the same issue from the MBA M1 to a Sony XBR OLED TV. I can airplay fine from my older MBA Intel or from my iMac but not from the MBA M1. Only sound comes across and the screen stays black. I have tried airplay from the MBA M1 to a Gen2 Apple TV (connected to a Samsung TV) and it works fine. I then renamed the 'Sony XBR-65A8H' to 'Living Room TV' as I thought perhaps the special character was interfering based on other posts but still no luck. It appears that the M1 and the Sony TV have some incompatibility. Hopefully Apple fixes this soon.

same issue. Sony TV x8000h and MacBook Pro M1.

previously TV worked fine with MacBook Air intel i5 but now black screen with MacBook Pro M1. Only sound works fine.

Contacted Apple but they have no solution. I thought they would resolve in 11.2 update but did not work.

I will contact Sony to enquire if something is wrong while connecting TV with M1 Macs. lets see if they have something to say in this matter.

Please try with some other make TV to make sure if problem is with Mac or TV

I am having the same issue! I have a Sony XBR65X900H, and am able to Airplay to it from my IPhone 11, my wife's iPhone 12, my iPad Pro, but keep on running into issues doing this from our new m1 MacBook Pro. The one thing that I've been able to airplay successfully to the TV is Apple TV+, from the app running on the computer. However, when I try to airplay from any other app, or try to do screen mirror or extend, the audio seems to work, but the TV screen remains black.

I should note I was able to airplay successfully to our Apple TV unit on a separate TV.

Is there some incompatibility with third party application of Airplay 2.0 and m1 chips?

TLDR: I have the same problem using AirPlay on an M1 MacBook Pro. I followed all of the trouble shooting advice given for the MacBook Pro M1 here and elsewhere with the same sound playing with a black screen result.

Details: M1 MacBook Pro running Big Sur 11.1 and a 2019 Sony Bravia 4k ur2 running AirPlay version 25.05. Every device is running the most current versions of their respective softwares. When I connect with the MacBook Pro M1 to the Sony Bravia 4k ur2 sound plays but the screen is black. However, if I connect from an iPhone XR, iPhone 11 or 2020 iPad Pro everything works correctly.

I have the same problem using airplay to a Sony 75X9000H TV. Is it only Sony TV's having this problem ? It strike me perhaps the Sony video processor is not recognising the airplay stream's resolution although it fails on both airplay optimised and scaled. Fine using an USB-C hub and HDMI connection.

Guys submit your feedback here  https://apple.com/feedback/. Apple should know this m1 chip issue and need to fix it as top priority. Otherwise it will never to solved. they dont care and start building m2 chips..
