M1 chip MacBook Pro trackpad not functioning (mouse cannot move)

Hi,

I just bought the newest M1 chip MacBook pro in January 2021, and I found out my mouse is not working (normally occurs when I just opened up the mac). I am not using any bluetooth or wiring mouse, only the trackpad....

I guess it was the trackpad that is having problem...is there anything I can do to fix it...?

Greetings, DannieTan98.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. Being able to reliably use your built-in trackpad is important, so we can understand why you’d want a resolution.

First, test it out in safe mode: Start up your Mac in safe mode

Then, isolate the issue further by testing it in another user account: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac - Apple Support

If the issue continues, consider answering the following question.

  • How exactly is it not working?
  • Which macOS are you using?
  • Has the Mac had any impacts?

All the best.

Same problem, MBP 13" M1 2020, 16Go RAM, macOS Big Sur 11.2.

After reboot, sometimes the mouse on screen is unresponsive, but i can still click anywhere (the pointer don't move, but the actions of clicking anywhere are available). I have to reboot again if it happens.

So frustrating and annoying for a brand new laptop...

I got the exact same problem with my MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020) Big Sur!! Hope it's a software problem and will be solved in a future update. I'm so scarred every time it happens :( It was so expensive, things like this should not happen. Also I sometimes have issues with my touch bar. It just turns off and I can't use it until I shut the laptop down.

Confirmed 14 Feb 2021! Mac M1: BigSur 11.3 (Latest update for Developers)

Secondary Click with 2 fingers: Not Working

Trackpad sometimes stuck and became unresponsive for a few seconds!

Battery dropped from 100% -> 20% in ~ 6hrs when temperature is low ~ 7 - 14! (No air-conditioner)

-> my other Macbook pro (2015) just shutdowns when it's cold like that, so I had to use adapter all the time.

Bluetooth Bug occurred after a while - cannot find Airpod Pro

Airdrop Bug not working after a while - cannot send items to iPhone

> must restart Mac to fix Bluetooth + Airdrop bugs

This thread has become a list of errors and bugs in M1 Macs. Are they due to Big Sur or something else ? I have a new one :-

I installed the latest Big Sur update recently, I'm now running 11.2.1(20D74). This morning, when waking from sleep - on recharge, everything looked OK for a few seconds then before I could start to do anything, the entire screen flashed Magenta for a 10th of a second aprox, then rebooted as if from cold. No error signal, no start up chime. It's OK now, but I think it may have done this before while I was not looking as I have found that odd aspects of the system have reset, I'm really not clear on that at the moment though.

Hey, is this problem pretty widely-known? I just received my macbook m1pro and was surprised to see all these tiny little glitches the touchpad has, like for example when I highlight the text excerpt and have the touchpad click, then it kind of stucks in that same click mode and then even when I move the cursor further having factually unclicked it (upressed it), it still highlights the text. Or also, when I want to use the bottom edge of the touchpad, it jut doest react, probably like a half-an-inch of a bottom line of the touchpad... why would I need a bigger touchpad if that's still like in mac air 2015 imho. Also, in this week timeframe of using the mac, the touchbar has already stucked once, I had to reboot the mac; the finder has stucked twice, I had to force quit it and it just seems like either it is the software problem or the macbook itself should've been worked on a bit more to the quality before beings announced as a breakthru. IMHO- dissapointment...

if any of you, guys, know how to fix the problems or had the same annoying them, let me know.)) ALSO, specialists, please, give a feedback!)

Best regards

My touchpad is working properly now after latest update for developer! (11.3)

Thanks Apple!

Note:

Sometimes my Mac M1 (16gb) temperature increases significantly if i runs multiple applications like Simulator, Docker, < 20 Chrome tabs. I'm not sure if it affects the battery significantly after a few months with current workload

Nevertheless, you can install free software below to monitor the temperature

Hey, I encountered the same problem today on my Macbook Pro M1 (8GB RAM, 256GB SSD), just after it booted the pointer and trackpad were working fine, but after a few seconds the pointer was stuck although I could still move through the options.

I used the power button to force shutdown and restart, things are working fine for now. But this ain't acceptable!

In the past this shutdown also flashed the screen Magenta as it died. Yesterday there was no flash, just black.

This has happened so often that Apple has said they shall replace my Macbook Air.

That was two weeks ago. No sign of it yet.

It has crashed again since the update to Big Sur 11.2.2

Bought new MacBook Pro 13 wiht M1 chip. The mouse also malfunctioned. Support told me to reinstall OS but I did not want to take a chance and replaced with a second M1 laptop. The mouse also decided to malfunction. I had to "reset SMC" by turning the computer off for 30 seconds for themouse to work again. Just a few minutes ago the mouse decide to malfunction again!!! Had to turn the power off and on to get going. What is going on Apple ?
