Notification Sounds/Alerts

I found this question has already been asked in 2017 with no adequate answer.

Is it possible to have an audible alert sound for incoming and/or just received emails when not actually using the mail app on an iPad (Pro, 12.9 inch, 3rd-Generation, iOS 14.2)?

In other words, when iPad is unlocked or locked, can I get a notification sound/alert to know I have received a new email like when I get an audible alert sound for a new text message?

I have done all the things mentioned in the previous thread where I found the same question from 2017. So, yes, I have gone into settings, notifications, banners, badges, sounds, alerts, volume and so forth and the only audible alert sound I get is when I am in the app, the new emails have downloaded and I am opening a new email - I get the alert sound! A bit late at that point.

Any new suggestions?

Hey Hope2GitAnzer,

We're glad you thought to ask Apple Support Communities about the new email notification not sounding. If we understand correctly, once you open the Mail app and the new emails appear, that's when you hear the notification. If that's right, you may want to check your Fetch settings. With the setting set to "Automatically", new emails will not download to your device unless you're connected to Wi-Fi and power at the same time, or you open the Mail app. To check your settings, tap Settings > Accounts. What is "Fetch New Data" set to here? If it's set to "Automatically" you may consider changing it "Hourly" or one of the timed options, such as "Every 30 Minutes" or "Every 15 Minutes". That's the time between "Fetches" for how often it checks for new emails. More details can be found under "Check Mail Fetch and Notification settings" here: If you can't receive email on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you have it set to a timed check, we recommend reaching out to Apple Support to look into this a bit more with you. They can be reached here: Get Support

Thanks, and have a wonderful day!
