White too bright Macbook Air 2020 Big Sur

I've recently brought a new MacBook Air (11 Jan 21, first time Mac user here!!)

and I've updated it to Big Sur. The white on backgrounds icons seems really bright and hard to read what the text is. I've attached some photos of what I mean and just wondering if this is because of the update or not, as pre update it wasn't this hard to read.

It almost has a blue tint to the white colour as seen in the picture of iMessage screen.

I have turned True Tone off and exposure is at Normal - I've reset and reinstalled the Big Sur update to see if it was software related, so I'm just wondering whether its actually the hardware itself and it needs replacing?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Congrats on getting your MacBook Air!

We'd like to help however we can to reduce the intensity of the white color on the screen.

As you've already disabled True Tone and there was no change, we can rule that out as a possible cause. Let's try some other steps to narrow this down further:

While we're unsure of what you meant when you said the 'exposure is set to normal', we wanted to provide the steps to Change your Mac display’s brightness just in case.
You also mentioned updating it to macOS Big Sur, but the latest version is macOS 11.1. You can verify which version number is installed by clicking on the Apple logo at the top left corner of the screen, then on ‘About This Mac’. Here's how to first Back up your Mac with Time Machine, and afterwards, here's How to update the software on your Mac.
We'd also like to provide the steps to Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac and How to reset the SMC of your Mac.

Have you tried going into the display settings and color options to see if you are using the correct color correction profile? Did you have the MacBook Air connected to a external monitor? It may have retained that profile which may make it look different on your MacBook Air screen?
