Apple logo flash at startup

New iPhone 12 Pro. At startup the Apple logo flashes super bright for a brief second then the screen goes dark for about 10 seconds before the Apple Logo re appears at normal brightness to finish the startup. I’ve had iPhones for years and never had the logo turn on and then off during startup. Is that Normal for the 12?

It is a normal boot up, some programmer just forgot to disable the screen during boot up so you see one of the steps in the start process. See my post above. And if you want an “official” answer from Apple you are unlikely to ever get one, and I guarantee you will not get one in this user-to-user forum. I hear that it is “fixed” in the next release, however, the logo will still be there, you just won’t see it because the screen will be turned off during startup. But in your heart you will know that the logo appears twice, even though you can’t see it.

Did they instruct you to start as new phone n reinstall each apps individually? That really sucks since I have to reset all the settings manually.

and not sure it’s related but I notice the other storage did not go down to normal level of less than 10gB. It’s currently fluctuated around 20gB.

they reckon some of the apps could be the corrupt in iCloud and restoring them might reload the culprit. That’s really frustrating since I have no access to the cloud to intervene the apps individually...

I continue be amazed at how upset people are getting about a 100% harmless cosmetic issue.

There is literally nothing functional that does not work or is in any way affected by this issue.

If that's enough to cause you to return your phone, that's your choice of course and is why Apple has a 14 day return policy.

Handy hint: boot your phone once, don't shut it off - the only time I see the boot logo on mine is when applying an iOS update.

You won't ever see the "issue" again.

I believe that this could be the case, but as the flash occurs and as the phone won't restart normally (or at all) it's not hard to make a connection between these behaviors - n'est pas? In any case, the phone does not function properly and Apple agrees that it needs repair. Why charge me 100 bucks for an express replacement or ask me to go without my phone? It's brand new, I am willing to allow a credit card hold and it's COVID and my reliance on my phone is more than necessary. Plus, if I did pay the 99.00 Apple considers this an incident so I'd be compromising my protection also. Doesn't feel particularly Apple-like in my experience.

Why so sure the two are unrelated?

Yep. Mine even had a normal boot up (no blink) after the restore during setup which should rule out any issue with restoring from backup as a means to setting up the phone . The “blink” began a week after restore for no apparent reason and it began after several normal “blink free” restarts (phone turned off once in order to apply a screen protector and once just to check whether the blink had started again but it had NOT). I turned the phone off the last time because the touchscreen had become intermittently less responsive and apps were freezing — upon restart the blink had returned.

Logically speaking, it must be more than a “normal boot up” issue as it doesn’t happen on all iPhones (or even on all iPhone 12’s — my son who purchased his 12 on launch day, did a restore from backup to set it up, and has updated right up through the last iOS update and has NEVER had the issue EVER), and for some like me it happens randomly at some point after the phone has booted with the normal boot up (solid apple logo on startup) for a period of time and then begins blinking at a later date. Are we to assume then that the engineers forgot to “block the blink” during reboot/startup on only certain iPhones? That just doesn’t seem a rational line of thought to me, so I feel there must be another answer.

While you may well be right, I don't agree with your logic. It may be cosmetic, but in troubleshooting I think it's reasonable to assume that unexpected behaviors are clues. I don't understand your concrete view and I think you might consider your words "whatever the reason..." As you don't know the cause of the "flash", how can you be so sure the power on issues are not related to the flash at start up perhaps. Anyway, be well and I have received great help and support from Apple.

True, but that has ZERO to do with the Apple logo appearing twice. If being unable to start the phone is your problem start your own thread rather than rudely cluttering up this one.

Of course, I assume you know that you don’t turn on an iPhone by “pushing” the power button. You HOLD the power button until an Apple logo appears, which can take 15-30 seconds of holding.

Or does it? As I stated in an earlier post, since the blink has begun my touchscreen has periods of decreased responsiveness and apps that were working fine are now freezing occasionally. Are these issues related to the blink? I think it is possible that they may be all interrelated as they all began happening at the same time. Prior to the blink my touchscreen and apps behaved normally — since the blink began they don’t. But, there’s no way to be sure whether the issues are related as apple has yet to release an official explanation for the cause of the blink. Is there more than one issue at play here — perhaps. Is the startup blink only cosmetic— perhaps not. Until apple finds the cause of the blink we will not know for sure if other issues are related or if a gradual degradation of the phone operation may occur over time. Respectfully, I just feel that it might be foolhardy to dismiss a behavior that appears to be outside the normal operation of the phone (as evidenced by the fact that not all iphones exhibit the behavior. In fact, not even all iPhone 12 exhibit the behavior) until the cause of said behavior is definitively diagnosed.
